Is there any way to upgrade without losing my apps and settings? If I upgrade from 10.1.3 to 10.2.1 OTA , does it still format my Nook HD+ and I will lose all my apps ?

CM11 installation requires a CWM recovery version 6.0.4.5 or newer. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-hd/general/how-to-updating-hd-hd-internal-emmc-to-t2863171 for pointers on how to update from CM10.x to CM11.

If you have enabled Google backup service on your CM10.x your Google Playstore apps will be auto-downloaded after you re-setup Google account on CM11, but their settings will not be auto-restored. You can use a backup app (such as Titanium Backup) to backup your app settings, although I have found that some apps sometimes fail to work on restored setting data.

Using titanium backup

It is better to use titanium back up and backup all the applications, wifi settings, accounts, and other system settings. Obb files and data files of games should be kept there as it is or you can backup in your pc. Then you can update you latest kernel by vergreen and flash the latest build of CM11 and then restore all apps using titanium backup. Now you can have your apps and setting unchanged.
