I got myself a Pixel 4a 5G and the notification light alawys disappears after a few animation cycles.

Can someone show me how to setup the app, to get the following configuration:

notification light only
>always< on until notification is accepted

there are too many options and i might have misconficgured something i think or the notification light is cancled by the OS or something

i miss the simple notification led and hate the aod display because i can not remove the clock from it .. if it were just the nocitfication message it would be okay

PS: found this maybe related info about another similar app
in post #11 where some service is being killed by the OS, maybe this solution might help here too?!

AODNotify Settings
  • Notifications (the text, not the toggle, but yes, have it toggled on too) /
    • Mark notifications as seen
      • Notification cleared

  • Notification light (the text, not the toggle, but yes, have it toggled on too) /
    • DisplayTime (both settings, for when the screen is on and when the screen is off).
    • Interval Mode (adjust the slider for how long to notify before pausing).

just another question, it seems the AOD display is dimming down very much after a certain time, i barely could see the blue ring pulsing, is that an application setting i can tweak or an OS option or nothing i can change?

PS: i can not say under which circumstances but it seems more or less random how dim the AOD is, i plugged the charger in and it was dim, then it suddenly changed to fully charged and wen bright again

and another PS: it looks like it is reacting to the ambient brightness, but i am confused why it was so dark at some point i could not see it ... so it's an OS thing

Did you try the experimental setting General / Increase AOD Brightness (requires ADB)?

I don't use that, so I can't report on it. I do use the Power saving mode (and Custom night time).

There have been some reports that Stable Android 13 makes the screen too dark sometimes.

Sorry guys, would like to know where the option, camera edge-fine tuning in the dimension, is. According to the screenshot provided by roirraW in #3, there is no such a setting in my Pixel 6. The bought and installed version is 1.21 on 20220424. Would I miss or misunderstand something? Thanks for your patience and assistance.

Been using this app on my previous OP8 and now on my P6P. Love it, can't live without it.

Two things I wish it had though: Dark mode and an import/export settings option. :) (I understand I can backup data with something like Swift Backup, but I like export settings files 😜)

Although I, too, would like to additionally have the option to manually export and import the app's settings, it uses Google's backup API, so that at least on a fresh device setup, if you choose to restore from the automated Google cloud backup, it'll restore the app's settings as they were when they were last backed up.

See the third paragraph I wrote here last November:

@Jawomo If you're interested and you don't already know, here are the offsets I needed on the Pixel 7 Pro for the camera edge notification circle to be properly aligned. Cheers.

Battery drain on Pixel 3a Android 12 aodNotify 1.21
This app is great but I'm am getting too much battery drain. I did a simple test to prove it. Charged the phone to 100%, set the aod to "Don't show", deselected all apps except messages and left it for 3 days.
The battery had gone down to 20%. There had been no notifications (no sim card in phone).

Charged the phone to 100%, turned off notifications in the app, turned off aod in the android settings, force stopped aodNotify.
Left it for 3 days and the battery had gone down to 77%.

That's quite a difference to say that there were no notifications so aodnotify should have been doing nothing in the background, just waiting for a notification (that could not happen).

Is there anything I can do to improve this?

Not a good test. AOD notify would still be on and listening for notifications thus draining battery.

This app was initially developed for Samsung Galaxy devices with Always on Display. As Pixel devices also have an Always on Display i decided to port the Samsung version to Pixel devices.

You need a notification light / LED for your Pixel 6!
With aodNotify you can easily add a notification light / LED to your Pixel 6!

You can select different notification light styles and show the notification light around the camera cutout, screen edges or even simulate an notification LED dot in the statusbar of your Pixel 6 or Pixel 5!

As the notification light is integrated in Google's Always On Display it has minimal battery consumption and doesn't drain your battery like other apps which keep your phone awake!

    MAIN FEATURES
    • Notification light / LED for Pixel 6, Pixel 5 or Pixel 4a!
    • Low energy notification preview
    • Activate Always On Display (AOD) only on notifications
    • Charging / Low battery light / LED

    MORE FEATURES
    • Notification light styles (around camera, screen, LED dot)
    • Custom app / contact colors
    • ECO animations to save battery
    • Interval mode (on/off) to save battery
    • Night times to save battery

    BATTERY USAGE PER HOUR ~:
    • LED - 3.0%
    • LED & INTERVAL - 2.0%
    • LED & ECO ANIMATION - 1.8%
    • LED & ECO ANIMATION & INTERVAL - 1.5%
    • NOTIFICATION PREVIEW - 1.0%
    • ALWAYS ON DISPLAY - 1.0%

Without notification light the app consumes almost 0% battery!

The Pixel 6's Tensor chip has a context hub, which is a ultra low power context engine especially made for the AOD and other background tasks, wich should reduce power consumption a lot. The values above are approximate values from old Pixel devices.

    NOTES
    • The app is still in beta stage, errors may occur!!
    • Google may block this app with future updates!
    • Please check if the app is compatible before updating phone software!
    • Altough we never experienced any screen burn in issues on our test devices, we recommend to not keep the notification light / LED active for a long time! Use at you own responsibility!

I found a way to completely disable the AOD when not needed using adb. Coming in next beta. This can save up to 25% battery per day!

The position of the light around the camera cutout may not be accurate in this beta.

Position can be adjusted in Notification light > Size & position > fine tuning section in the app.

Does that mean that when I have an unread WhatsApp message that creates a green ring around the camera cutout it costs me about 24% battery during 8 hours of sleep?
Oh, these 3% per hour are only approximate values based on old Pixel devices.

The Pixel 6's Tensor chip has a context hub, which is a ultra low power context engine especially made for AOD and other background tasks, wich should reduce power consumption a lot.

Additionally there are low energy eco effects, interval mode and sleep times which can drastically reduce battery consumption in aodNotify.

Just give it a try. As soon as i get my Pixel i'll start optimizing even further.
