unpack kernel and repack it again (without making any changes to it)
and try to boot
maybe that'll work

I can try this later tonight...but I don't think that it will work. I am using the kernel from CM10 FXP137 and it boots into
SZL.kiev's PACman ROM and into CM10 with no problems.....

Mind posting the kernel that boots ? Hmm i wipd everything twice before i flashs anything ..
here ya go....

it is from fxp137. In order to get it to work, you should wipe cache and dalvik cache and then it should boot into the ROM. I think the first version of PA2.x (that was later downgraded to PA1.992) behaved the same way.....

I tried to replace the adreno libs in the AOKP ROM with the ones from the latest CM10...didn't fix anything...

Don't need to worry about compressed/uncompressed kernel, FXP138 kernel is uncompressed and it is working on your AOKP build....still need to clear dalvik cache in order to successfully boot. I can't get the kernel inside the ROM to boot at all....

I can't even get legacycamera work, instant fc. Any special "tricks" besides placing it in the system/app folder?

Shouldn't even have to put it into system/app...mine is in data/app and it is working fine. Maybe double check that the permissions for it are set correctly (just set them the same as the other apps in the folder). If you end up changing the permissions, you will have to reboot to get the new permissions to stick. I attached the camera app that I am using....I used root explorer to install it...if you still have problems with the new one, just install camera ics from play store. You can also install gallery ics as a replacement for the default gallery.....

Thanks but still not working. It's the same for me with all JB roms, no matter what camera app I try it's fc all over. Oh well, guess it's back to JJs. Bummer because I really love this rom.
