The browser apk itself is actually unmodified. All it needed was to be signed. The magic for this is making browserproxyprovider no longer block the aosp browser from working. Is the source of this modified version available?
I'm quite curious as to how one can build a non-system version of Browser.apk. I know it's possible with the 4.2+ Camera/Gallery, and other apps, but seeing what needed to be changed for the Browser would be very interesting, as I prefer building the Browser myself, and enjoy examining source code.
(This isn't meant as any sort of insult towards those who build Browser.apk. Indeed, they (and our OP) should be commended for making this easier on those who can't/won't build Browser themselves. I am someone who simply enjoys tinkering, which is the primary reason for this request.)
Yes. Click the apk and install it. It will say app not installed. Then restart and install signedbrowser.apk.I went to system/app folder and there already exists browserproviderproxy.apk and browserproviderproxy.odex.. ?
It requires root. This does not. There's an aosp browser installer on the play store. I used it and it worked fine.
I had the sync error until I noticed the permissions request for bookmark sync. Somehow I overlooked it at first.Bookmark sync works fine for me...you have to enable it in system settings under google accounts first (and then allow it when the notification pops up or else it will say sync error)
