Im somewhat tech savvy but im kinda stumped on this whole aosp thing. Im trying to use juice defender to save extra battery life but some of the better features are disabled because it says aosp isn't available. I'm currently running the I777 aokp rom and the siyah kernal but I don't know how to enable aosp, if its even available. I thought aokp was one of the better roms out there and I remember way back when aokp was pretty newish on the I777, it still had these features available, so im just wondering whatsup.

Thnx folks

Aosp is the stock android created by google, if you have seen cyanogen roms then you have seen aosp, of course cyanogenmod merges "his" own tweaks and features to improve stock aosp, now aokp is aosp plus cyanogenmod plus other features from other developers plus plus plus. Things are not EXACTLY as I explained but I'm trying to keep it simple, so, to answer your question, the aokp rom you're using is actually a heavily tweaked aosp rom. Get it? ;)

Ok so then why do these features not work if ours are heavily tweaked. If anything it should allow us to do so right?

You don't really understand what you're asking. AOSP stands for Android Open Source Project, and it is the method by which Google makes the latest vanilla Android source code available to developers. AOKP is based on code taken from AOSP. What "features" are you asking about?

Considering you are aware it is already tweaked, why do you want to install JuiceDefender so all it can do is consume more battery? None of those battery saving apps help they only consume more to run. Their only features are disabling the sync, data, wifi, bt. All features you can already disable easy enough when you are not using.

Juice defender actually has some nice features like auto disable Wi-Fi based on GPS location, auto disable gps when not in use, and auto switch network modes based on coverage. I had it setup before so when I was home, wireless would stay on (for downloads and updates) and I usually had it plugged in at home so it wasn't a problem. I could leave my house without worrying about toggling Wi-Fi or GPS for draining additional battery and could come home to have it automatically on. Switching networks based on coverage not only improved battery life but also improved my data performance, as it cuts in and out a lot on the poor 4g coverage in my city so far. Can you guys answer my question a little more directly? If this aokp Rom isn't compatible, which Rom is most similar, with these capabilitys?

I looked in the i777 index and under 'aosp roms' I saw cm9. Not cm10 but cm9. I'm going to give it a try and see if these extra features work.

What capabilities? We have been as direct as linguistically possible with our answers.

What features? What the hell are you even asking?

Did you not even read what I told you? I explained exactly what AOSP is, and it light of that it's pretty obvious that both CM9 and CM10 are AOSP-based roms.

He wants to know which rom will enable the extra features of juice defender. He is saying that the app requires an AOSP rom to enable those features, but since AOKP technically is AOSP, it doesn't make sense as to why those extra juice defender features won't work. Unless, it's requiring a purely stock AOSP rom.

I personally have never used juice defender, so I have no idea.

Don't know how else to explain what has been said to you... aosp != touchwiz. If it doesn't have touchwiz its aosp. And juice defender is pretty useless. Just try a ROM without it first and you will see you don't need JD

Ah, I see. Sounds like the problem is with JuiceDefender having compatibility issues with JB. I used to use it with GB TouchWiz, but I haven't touched it since I went to ICS/JB.

Exactly. That's what I'm saying. It's really not needed anymore. I can get 4 hours screen on time and 24 hours of use and I don't ever kill an app, restart, and I have mail syncing and gps on. I suppose it's just personal preference or placebo affect, thinking you're saving more battery than you actually are with JD. At least with ics and jb. Gingerbread it worked well for me.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

:rolleyes:So why don't you get off your high horse and explain it in a manner that an average user can understand? Jeez...some people.. I know I can't be the only one that doesn't know exactly what aosp is.

Second post it was explained. Aosp is stock android. Android Open Source Project. Aokp is stock android customized. Android Open Kang Project. Aokp uses Aosp to make its ROMs. Cm also use Aosp.

Bing bing bing, this guy gets it. I've tried multiple aosp roms including just plain cm9 and still had no luck, im beginning to think it's just an issue with juice defender.

Ps folks. you all dont have to be jackasses when someones asking for some clear clarification on something. We are all here to learn

I understood what aosp meant, but it was not the only factor in this post. My main question and concern was related to juice defender not working, and iv come to the conclusion that it hardly works on the majority of custom roms, aosp or not

I was not being a jackass, it was explained multiple times and you didn't seem to be able to comprehend that. And yeah your problem is juice defender. Stop using it.
