Killswitch for tablets and phones


Fahrbot Mobile presents Killswitch, a utility made specifically for devices with cases.


What does Killswitch do?

The app uses a combination of sensors to control the sleep state and screen lock of any device.

At the moment, it uses the proximity sensor, light sensor and accelerometer.

Killswitch has the added advantage of removing your lockscreen via two different methods if you so wish. If you have a case, it really isnt necessary and can be annoying.


Why use Killswitch?

Killswitch will save you battery - putting your device to sleep is as intuitive as shutting your case or turning your phone face down.

And, of course, Killswitch will show all your ipad and iphone loving mates why android is just that much more awesome :)

After upgrading to a newer version, please go into the settings dialog and enable Killswitch again. This is not optimal, but it saves battery and cpu time by removing the necessity for a constantly running service!

In order to uninstall the app, untick "Admin privileges" in Killswitch or via the Accessibility page of your device's settings.

when you say "All this will use no more power than any Android device does on default settings, as all of the pertinent sensors are already on all the time." , I'm kinda skeptical.

My proximity sensor is not on all the time, it's only turned on during a call.

You shouldnt be - just use spare parts or whatever and you will find that Killswitch has used almost zero resources.

I made this app for myself originally and i have it on 3 devices. None of them are having battery problems.

don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that Killswitch uses a lot of battery, i'm just saying your statement "All this will use no more power than any Android device does on default settings, as all of the pertinent sensors are already on all the time." is not really true because I know that at least 1 sensor, which is the proximity sensor, is not on all the time, even on default settings.

The proximity sensor uses almost no power. But youre right - ive removed the offending line!

My friend has a Blackberry Bold and whenever he takes it out on the leather case it automatically went on (the screen) and putting it back on the case will make screen off, is this the same principle as what you saying here?
Well just curious...definitely will try this app, thanks.

alarm!

Great program! just tried the free version and works very well on hd2 + original flip cover, but I found a bug: I set extafunction-> No-lock to "unlock on screen activation" and I set an alarm in default sense clock settings, then I left the screen to turn off and I waited.... the result is an endless unstoppable alarm! The only way to stop it is to shoutdown the phone!

I'll repost my issue here for you to read again and others to see. I've paid for this app and haven't had any resolution from you since Apr 11th when I orignially posted this:

Ok, thanks. I've done some more testing...deleted some apps I've installed recently, but I still can't get a handle on what's wrong. This seems to be the trend: I uninstall Killswitch, reboot and reinstall. I setup Killswitch as I said before with both proximity and acceleration ticked. Both sensors function properly just as I expect them to--even the proximity sensor works when I holster the phone. However, within 5-10 minutes both sensors stop doing what they're supposed to.

At this point, if I uncheck proximity, then acceleration will always work. But if I leave proximity checked, and uncheck acceleration, then proximity works to a point (if I put my finger on the sensor, it works, but holstering no longer works).

I really want this to work for me, because I constantly use it. Here are two separate logcats--the first is with Killswitch operating properly, the second logcat is during the problem. Can you help please?

Plugging and unplugging ac power seems to be the issue. When I have it plugged in to my USB or wall outlet, killswitch works every time. As soon as I unplug it, it stops working. When I plug it back in, it continues to work (without any modification to the Killswitch settings). It seems the only time Killswitch works as advertised is when I have a fresh install of Killswitch. Then after a few minutes, it stops working until I connect the phone to ac power. I sure appreciate your involvement--thank you!

I'm wondering how much power changes (ac to dc or dc to ac) has to do with it, because every time I change power, killswitch functionality changes.
Also, even though I have "turn off lockscreen" enabled, the phone sometimes returns to a lock state when i press a hardware key to turn on the phone. HTC Sense?
