Is it possible to make release for WQVGA screen resolution? I had tested it on LG GM730 all works fine expect GUI on phone, all buttons and messages looks bad. I think it because of "native" resolution of this programm.
If somebody can post a screenshot of how the GUI behaves on an actual handset at lower resolutions i might be able to work around it for the next release. As I've said before i only have a WVGA phone and the emulator doesn't always get things right, so i need to see whats actually going on to make it work.
Great Job! It "just worked" for me. Brilliant.
The only big problem I had was that I couldn't find the d-pad. Am I missing something?
Otherwise, here are my suggestions:
1)It's be nice to make it look more remote-controllish. Like actual buttons for recorded tv and music and such. The menus on the bottom can get a little cumbersome
2) More media controls would be useful, other than just play, pause, and skip.
3) It'd be cool if you could add metadata- like album art or dvd cover images, and a synposis.
4) Is it possible to be able to turn on an HTPC using this? Send a magic packet or something?
That's what I think. But this is an amazing start! I once was helping someone else develop something similar, but I think the guy got too busy and the project died. I've attached a picture of what my vision would have been for the remote part of the app...
You'll need to enable the d-pad by selecting the 'enable touch d-pad' option in the settings menu, accessed via the splash screen. once enabled here, you'll notice the right softkey text will change from 'back' to 'controls', indicating that when you press it, it'll toggle between the d-pad and media info.
I really don't want the interface to become cluttered... it means that the buttons are smaller and difficult to press, especially on smaller screens and resolutions. which extra media functions in particular would you like? Ive managed to include most functions with the button in the top-right, kind of like a 'shift' key, which lets you change channels etc (see
post#2). the lesser used buttons (like changing between videos and music, recording etc) can be accessed via the menu or the home button. one button i would like to add is an options or info button, however it doesn't seem to work properly with VMC controller.
As far as getting meta data... I've had a play around with trying to get meta/EPG data out of VMC... only seems to work on the less-stable releases. I'm not sure about how to get cover images... awesome idea though. however, I'm not fully convinced this sort of functionality is necessary, as most people i imagine have a great big TV right in front of them. the only real use i can think of is if you're listening to music with the TV off (or in another room or whatever) in which case i just queue it up first, then switch the TV off. You can still see and control whats playing. I'm trying to keep it simple as possible! haha
Just installed this and works well on my Touch Pro 2, well done and thanks! Been waiting for an application like this for ages!!
Not sure whether it is supposed to work yet or not, but when I open the hardware keyboard, the basic buttons like up and down, left and right work, but nothing happens when I use the hardware numbers or letters in a search box where you can enter text.
I like this idea!!
the hardware keyboard should work, needs to be enabled in the same menu as the above screenshot. unless the tp2 does something weird with the keyboard keys? try hitting all of them when browsing music and see if anything happens on your tv.
as far as magic packets / wake on lan is concerned, i agree this being an excellent idea! now if i can just get my pc to sleep properly i can try to develop something... anyway in the meantime, thanks heaps to everyone whose tested and given some feedback! its great to see what other users think about the app!
