Congratulations Guys! brilliant start to an app that ive been wanting for a long time! especially as summer starts here in uk...music control when your outside! :)

Given up hope that microsoft would let their phones talk to and control their pcs even tho it seemed like a good idea...I will definitely be donating towards this...

Right feedback time...
i ran 0.4 on the SE X1 and all good apart from your reported bugs...then uninstalled 0.4 and installed 0.5...volume control defo works better!

It seems like the cab or installer keeps older install info on phone as i didnt need to retype in settings and then maybe a bug is that the last song with title info to be played has now stayed on the display after updating to 0.5, it wont refresh the now playing info, tried switching back to 0.4 but same song info still there...any ideas?

Also tried 0.4 and 0.5 on my SE X2 but no luck with 0.4 at all and 0.5 installs but wont run...this os is wm 6.5.1...

thanks! yes it saves settings to a file, so the settings wont have to be re entered when you upgrade. however, the info your seeing is actually sent from VMC controller, this is not saved on your phone. im not sure if its a bug or something with vmc... is certainly annoying. again... if somebody wants to develop a better media center plugin than vmc let me know!

not sure whats going on with your x2, does it give you an error message? could be .net again possibly.

strange... maybe check your vmc installation, maybe try one of the other builds on their site. could maybe be an annoying firewall running in the background perhaps? does it happen all the time or just once? has anybody else had this error?
Mea culpla, didn't do RTFM :) Replaced host name by IP and it works great!

Updated to 0.5b, works great! Volume is much quicker and the d-pad works really well. Also seems you ironed out some bugs as it seems to connect better now

240x320 Resolution Support?

Hey,

This app looks great! Unfortunately, I have an old HTC PPC6700 phone (with WinMo 6), which has a 240x320 screen.

I've tried to load up the software, but as expected, the screen icons look all messed up and eventually the program gives me an error (I can provide the error message later today if you'd like).

I'd happily be a tester for you if you'd like to support the 240x320 resolution!

Thanks

This works fine for me :) I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate with my HTC Touch HD (Windows Mobile 6.1).

I assume there are going to be newer version? I've got a few things I would like to see in upcoming version:

- When controlling my movies and recorded TV I'd like a list on my mobile device with the movies/TV programs on my PC.
- I would also like a list of tracks/artist/genres/albums on my mobile device when playing music.

I have got no idea whether or not these changes are possible, but I would definitely like these. For now: very nice job and keep up the good work :)

One last question: does this app going to be available for Android?

Firewall ports

Hi,

My Win7 Media Center is part of a domain, and Windows firewall is enabled by default. At first, the app just bombed with a NullReferenceException at the first press of a control (Media Center also didn't provide any connection notification).

It only started working when I disabled the firewall. Using TCPView, I figured out that I had to open ports 40400 and 40500 for TCP traffic.

I hope this helps others.

Thanks to the OP for a great app - I'm really looking forward to future improvements.

as i dont have a QVGA device, or the cash to splash out on one ive got no way to develop for this resolution properly. also it would mean id have to re-do most of the graphics work to get the interface working properly, a lot of work considering ive got no real way to test it. the only way for me to do this atm is to use a QVGA emulator, and according to that it works fine, only some images are cropped, though still usable. can someone upload screenshots of the app running on a QVGA device so i can see whats going on?

so for the moment at least, no offical qvga support. however, you should still be able to use the hardware dpad/onscreen keyboard of your handset to send commands to your pc.

VMC controller is definitely capable of sending lists of media, so i am looking into adding this kind of functionality to it. i have however found that some builds of vmc controller are very buggy when it comes to actually using this, so again if someone wants to build a better plugin... that'd be a lot easier. Android is not something im working towards.

oh right. yup 40400 and 40500 are the default vmc controller ports.. so yes they will need to be opened. has anybody else had any trouble with this? there is a bug where it thinks its connected but it obviously hasn't, hopefully fixed in the next build in which ill try to improve on the overall stability of the app.

thanks for testing my app! glad you enjoy it

Great App

I just installed on my Topaz (Pure) with Windows 7 Ultimate. Works perfectly!

After installing the controller on the desktop you need to restart WMC but other than that it was flawless. The on screen DPAD work's great for navigating the menus. Very impressed!

Is it possible to make release for WQVGA screen resolution? I had tested it on LG GM730 all works fine expect GUI on phone, all buttons and messages looks bad. I think it because of "native" resolution of this programm.

Great Job! It "just worked" for me. Brilliant.

The only big problem I had was that I couldn't find the d-pad. Am I missing something?

Otherwise, here are my suggestions:

1)It's be nice to make it look more remote-controllish. Like actual buttons for recorded tv and music and such. The menus on the bottom can get a little cumbersome
2) More media controls would be useful, other than just play, pause, and skip.
3) It'd be cool if you could add metadata- like album art or dvd cover images, and a synposis.
4) Is it possible to be able to turn on an HTPC using this? Send a magic packet or something?

That's what I think. But this is an amazing start! I once was helping someone else develop something similar, but I think the guy got too busy and the project died. I've attached a picture of what my vision would have been for the remote part of the app...

Just installed this and works well on my Touch Pro 2, well done and thanks! Been waiting for an application like this for ages!!

Not sure whether it is supposed to work yet or not, but when I open the hardware keyboard, the basic buttons like up and down, left and right work, but nothing happens when I use the hardware numbers or letters in a search box where you can enter text.

If somebody can post a screenshot of how the GUI behaves on an actual handset at lower resolutions i might be able to work around it for the next release. As I've said before i only have a WVGA phone and the emulator doesn't always get things right, so i need to see whats actually going on to make it work.

You'll need to enable the d-pad by selecting the 'enable touch d-pad' option in the settings menu, accessed via the splash screen. once enabled here, you'll notice the right softkey text will change from 'back' to 'controls', indicating that when you press it, it'll toggle between the d-pad and media info.

I really don't want the interface to become cluttered... it means that the buttons are smaller and difficult to press, especially on smaller screens and resolutions. which extra media functions in particular would you like? Ive managed to include most functions with the button in the top-right, kind of like a 'shift' key, which lets you change channels etc (see post#2). the lesser used buttons (like changing between videos and music, recording etc) can be accessed via the menu or the home button. one button i would like to add is an options or info button, however it doesn't seem to work properly with VMC controller.

As far as getting meta data... I've had a play around with trying to get meta/EPG data out of VMC... only seems to work on the less-stable releases. I'm not sure about how to get cover images... awesome idea though. however, I'm not fully convinced this sort of functionality is necessary, as most people i imagine have a great big TV right in front of them. the only real use i can think of is if you're listening to music with the TV off (or in another room or whatever) in which case i just queue it up first, then switch the TV off. You can still see and control whats playing. I'm trying to keep it simple as possible! haha

the hardware keyboard should work, needs to be enabled in the same menu as the above screenshot. unless the tp2 does something weird with the keyboard keys? try hitting all of them when browsing music and see if anything happens on your tv.

as far as magic packets / wake on lan is concerned, i agree this being an excellent idea! now if i can just get my pc to sleep properly i can try to develop something... anyway in the meantime, thanks heaps to everyone whose tested and given some feedback! its great to see what other users think about the app!

ahh, ok, thanks, I missed that d-pad setting.

I can understand the hesitancy about putting all the buttons in one. I've tried displaying the png I showed above on my phone, and the buttons are no smaller than the regular 6.5.5 buttons, or most stuff on SenseUI, but that's just personal preference. But at the least, I'd suggest making the toggle bring up a different configuration. The d-pad makes perfect sense for navigating menus, but it gets a little confusing when using it for channels volume and play.

So if it were me, I'd make one screen the "Navigation" Screen- with the d-pad, and maybe a couple useful shortcuts on the button like Recorded TV, Guide, Info, Music. And then the toggle button brings up the Media Screen, which has volume, mute, channel, and then all of the play/pause/skip/ff/rw/stop along the bottom (like you've almost got now).

That's just one suggestion. It's a great program regardless!
