the hardware keyboard should work, needs to be enabled in the same menu as the above screenshot. unless the tp2 does something weird with the keyboard keys? try hitting all of them when browsing music and see if anything happens on your tv.
Hardware keyboard is enabled, but unfortunately, nothing happens when I press any of the buttons (except for the arrow keys and the back button which are working fine).

I know that QVGA is already a stretch, but just wanted to add that I tried this on a stanard CE 5.0 (not mobile) MID device which is landscape format (480 x 272)

I have not connected to WMC yet, but the app seemed to run ok (I have CF3.5 installed). The Cab will not install as standard, I needed to unpack the cab file and rename the files to names in XML. But once copied over it ran fine (apart from screen clippping)

Just thought I would add this as a lot of folks use these types of devices in home automation and would be ideal for WMC control.

Cheers

oh right. yup 40400 and 40500 are the default vmc controller ports.. so yes they will need to be opened. has anybody else had any trouble with this? there is a bug where it thinks its connected but it obviously hasn't, hopefully fixed in the next build in which ill try to improve on the overall stability of the app.
I'm having this issue here. I'm running Win7x32 Ultimate and trying to connect with my Verizon Wireless TP2 (stock 6.5 rom). Not exactly sure how to get these ports open on my system. Can anybody walk me through that?

NullReferenceException

Using Win7 Pro x64, controller x64 and Remote 0.6 on Xperia X1 WinMo 6.1.
I'm getting NullReferenceException as soon as I press the WMC button on the remote.
Opened ports, disabled firewall, still the same.

this might sound silly, but if your having trouble connecting to media center check the following:
-check that your wifi is connected, or that activesync is working correctly.
-check that you are entering the IP address of your pc, do not type the hostname as it will not resolve.
-check that the IP address is correct and that the PC is on the same subnet as your phone.
-verify that you've got the correct build of vmc controller installed, and that media center is running before attempting to connect.
-check/disable any antivirus/firewall software. - as posted previously, you'll need to allow traffic on ports 40400 and 40500 in whichever firewall software you're using.

if your having trouble opening ports, you'll need to refer to the documentation for your firewall software for instructions. if you are not sure how to find your ip address simply open a command promt and type "ipconfig", then read the address from where it shows "IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX".

hope this helps!

Thanks, that was my mistake. I'm able to connect now.

One other issue I'm finding is that if I allow my Touch Pro 2 to "standby" with the remote running, it enters the "sleep of death" (commonly reported issue with the HTC devices). I'm forced to reset my phone to get it working again. This might actually be a good thing as this issue has been notoriously hard to repro on demand and the fact that this happens 100% of the time with this app might make finding a fix a little easier. Anybody have any ideas on how to trace exactly what might be happening here?

Never had this problem before with my TP2, I am running the remote all day in the background and leave it connected to the Wifi. So far no problems when waking up from standby and never had to soft reset before. If it has been in standby for a long time (usually over night), then it does take a little longer to wake up but never longer than 3 or 4 seconds. Maybe its the ROM you are using?

Hey, would love for this to work but can't get it to. Running 0.6 on my WM 6.5 Omnia II device, Got VMC running on my Vista x64 Box with. Can "connect" to its ip (192.168.2.2) but the second I click on ANYTHING I get a NullReferenceException. Got ports 40400, 40410, 40500, 40510 open as per every bit of info I could dig up. Firewall was off when I tried, Tried connecting to "LivingRoom-PC" "\\LivingRoom-PC" "192.168.2.2" "\\192.168.2.2" and both iterations of my WAN IP (not gonna post that for obvious reasons) Also tried with every "option" disabled in settings on device. Tried with WMC both open and closed by all means It SHOULD work it just doesn't. Any Suggestions?

I noticed something similar - when screen goes to "sleep" it disconnects any WiFi connections I currently have (found the same thing when I am sharing an internet connection).

Stock Verizon 6.5 ROM here. I'm happy you've never seen this issue but there are many, many others like myself who have and it has never been reproducible like it has been when running wmc remote.

I hope this might open the door to a clue to finding the cause.

Try changing the following key to dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms]
"HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended"=dword:00000001

App is excellent. Thanks author.
I have few suggestions:
- could you make it multipoint, when I can add a few servers and switch between them in menu;
- it would be great to add possibility of automatic server address choosing by phone IP acquired. So imagine, at home I have addresses 192.168.0.X and server address is 192.168.0.111, however at work I have addresses 192.168.1.X and the server is 192.168.1.111. App can determine the address which is acquired by phone by DHCP and automatically choose right server or, if there are a few in this network, first found or last used...

The app crashed when my laptop lost wi-fi. App somehow have connected to it when it was unrichable. But when I clicked on control button it crashed.

Hi
you did a great job on this. I have a QVGA phone. So if you want I can do the QVGA GUI for you. I'm a developer on C# so If you want we can work together. let me know

Great product :)

I have it loaded on my HD2 and have really high hopes for this app.

Here is some feedback:

- I have been having the "On Sleep disconnect" issue.
- If the app disconnects because it goes to sleep, reconnecting doesn't work
- If I connect to an instance of VMC and the buttons come up, but I do not receive an acknowledgement message on the Media Center PC, pressing any button will cause the app to crash.
- 20% of the time that I connect to WMC I do not receive an ack

Some of the features that I would request:

- Dedicated record button on the home screen
- VNC features (ie, mouse/keyboard control)
- I haven't looked to see if this is already implemented, but pushing the channel listings to the phone so we can directly change the channel w/o having to pull the on-screen menu up.

Good work so far! I really really REALLY hope this project doesn't die out before it reaches its potential. That would be really sad and would mean I would need to go program my own remote control (which I already have too much on my plate to do that).
