upcoming update...

hey guys,

im currently working on a new release right now. this will address many of the stability problems (ie crashing), as well as making connecting to your pc much simpler. it should also work a lot better on QVGA devices. features such as adding extender support and stopping standby are still in development. other features such as controlling mouse (like vnc) are not available through vmc controller, and are outside the scope of this project.

i know some users having been having problems with the app disconnecting when your phone goes to sleep; this is a result of your wifi automatically switching off when in standby. i find its easier to have the wifi on when in standby, which can be set by using the following app at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=AdvancedConfig and selecting the "Wi-Fi enabled on standby mode" option, then rebooting, or the following reg key:
Try changing the following key to dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms]
"HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended"=dword:00000001
if you are getting errors such as "nullReferenceException", it is most likely because for some reason the app cannot connect to media center. to troubleshoot, check the following post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=617849&page=2#65

as far as the "sleep of death" goes, i find the best fix to this problem in general is to not use the default alarm app on your handset. its annoying, but at least the phone doesnt lock up!

Sweet. Just changed the reg.

Can't wait for the new update! I am a programmer, so if you need more technical beta testing, I would totally be willing :D

I couldn't find this setting in Advanced Config (v 3.2). What I did find was a little cab file that someone came up with that takes care of keeping WiFi connected when the device goes into standby.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5353195

After installing .7b I don't have the sleep of death occurring when my phone goes into standby any more (even before installing the cab above). However, I can't get WMCRC to connect anymore and my IP hasn't changed (it's setup as static). Can't get the program to crash though :)

version 0.7b doesnt seem to work on my HD2, i just reinstalled 0.6b and its working again, keyboard still isnt working.
Which part doesn't work? I'm guessing the automatic search? if it fails to find your PC, you can still connect manually like before. it should keep searching for about 3 minutes... have you left it for a while to search?

Not sure whats going on with the keyboard.. you've definitely enabled it in the settings?

I can't connect automatically or manually. I believe the message I see is "192.168.1.20 is unavailable". After leaving the "searching for media centers..." screen on for a while I get "no media centers found". My environment includes a Win7 Ultimate Media Center PC and an Xbox 360 set up as an extender.

Is there something i have to download to get this to work on my HD2? All i have is this program and my HD2, along with my computer which has media center, i also have vista. But do i have to download anything to my computer to make it work, change any settings? It always says XXX.XXX.X.X (ip adress) is unnavailable. and it cant find any media servers when connected to my computer via usb, and my ps3 does find my computer media center... help please.

troubleshooting...

hey guys,

if you having trouble connecting, im thinking it could be that same ipv6 issue from a previous release. just try disabling ipv6 on your pc (and router if possible) and see if it can find you pc after that. im working on a fix at the moment, but if someone could verify this is the problem (with different network setups) it'd be a great help. also you could try ensuring that your network type is set to private and not public, maybe that has something to do with it. haha its this reason why we test our apps!

Nice looking app, unfortunatelly I cant get VMC to run.

when VMC controller failes to start as an addIn on Media center, the media center remote app crashes with an exception upon issueing commands.

I'd like to see a similar app, but for windows media player...

I unchecked IPV6 in my Local Area Connection Properties but couldn't find any settings for that on my router. My Win7 machine's network is set to "Home" which I assume is private (right?).

Still can't connect. FWIW, I have another app on my phone called "WIFI Remote Access 1.0" and it connects to the network and functions perfectly.
