The very best dialer I use since 7 years. So sad that it's the end. I have bought the pro key since the beginning. Now I have update to android 9, but xmissed plugin doesn't works with last android security modules

Thanks to this thread I just installed ExDialer to my brand new Samsung S10e. I've been using it for 6 years at least (3 phones). I gave ExDialer all permissions but forgot to set it as default dialer app. So, upon starting 1st call with ExDialer android asked me if I want to finish the task with stock dialer or skype and do it just once or always. Somehow I made a stupid choice: "stock / always". Later I set ExDialer as default dialer, restarted the phone but it still jumps to stock dialer with each phonecall in or out. Is there a way to reverse my phone to the point where it will give me dialer app choices again?

Try this. In Settings search "Default apps" and select Default apps setting.

There select the Phone app and select exdialer.

Thanks. I already did that (my initial post).

Edit: I found a way to reset the apps permissions, gave Exdialer all permissions again and then set it as default dialer app. Should be good but android pie still ignores this preference. When I start a call with Exdialer (or another 3d party dialer), it will ask me if I want to use "system dialer or skype" and "just once/always". That's it. Installed 3d-party dialers are not listed.

Any ideas?

One more option you can try: Open 'Phone' App info -> "Set as default" option -> Clear defaults

I don't know if you already found something but True Phone might be a good alternative to ExDialer.

Sent from my Nokia 8.1 using Tapatalk

I've used True Phone alongside ExDialer for years, and visually and functIonally it (True Phone) is very good, but I have zero trust in the (True Phone) developers and support is non-existent, so people should keep that in mind if using, and especially considering buying, it.

You don't trust on the developers but are "brave" enough to use their work. If you are afraid for your data, they already stolen when you installed the software without asking for a coffee.

Not sure why you quoted "brave" when I never used that word or what coffee has to do with it, but when I first started using the app I not only had no reason not to trust them, but it was several years ago, before I started being more careful about the apps I use, or for that matter probably before most people were giving much thought to Android security and the possibility of apps being malicious. You're right, once I installed it and gave it initial access they could have stolen a lot of data, but it's also possible they didn't initially and have since changed (bear in mind I'm not saying they are doing anything they shouldn't, just that they might be, and I no longer trust that they aren't). Either way, just because an app may have stolen your data in the past (and stolen data is only one of many possible malicious acts an app can do), that's no reason to continue using it and not be cautious about it if concerns arise later.

The bottom line is that I have come to no longer trust the developers, and regardless of whether that matters to you/others, the fact they have no customer support (don't respond to emails) should, especially for those considering paying for it. But to each their own, and people can and will make up their own minds and do what they want. All I did was share my thoughts to warn others so they could exercise some caution if they want to try it out, not sure why that prompted your response.

Well, if you have any concerns about your security you could simply use the PM feature here in XDA. I think the way you expressed yourself saying you don't trust devs in development thread sounded rough. About support, can't say about email but here I think they are responsive enough even don't owe me anything since software are provided as-is. Coffee is about that "thank you" when you throw a buck or two to remove ads from the free software that took years of work to achieve the current status of development. Life is good.

Ah, I think you misunderstood. I wasn't referring to ExDialer, it's the True Phone devs I don't trust. I was saying that in response to the person suggesting that as a replacement, simply sharing my experience with it, which is that the app itself is good, but the developers seem, to me anyways, untrustworthy, an opinion that has been reinforced by their refusal to respond to emails. And I'm happy to pay for apps, and have bought many over the years, but I also don't like supporting apps when the developers do things I don't appreciate and, worse still, don't respond to their users. If someone would make a dialer app that shared many of the great features of ExDialer and True Phone and that was open-source (ideally) or at least trustworthy, I'd happily pay for it. Unfortunately, I've yet to find one, leaving me going back and forth between using True Phone, which I'm no longer using, and ExDialer, which is dead.

Anyways, I'm going to edit my initial post to clarify which app and development team I was referring to.

They started updating their app again after almost a year of no updates and they're pretty active in their thread on XDA developers.

    Thank for sharing True Phone.
    The best alternative I've seen.
It's my daily driver right now only the second app I've used that create an appointment from the context menu exists.

Is there any way to make it use for dual sim mobiles...:(

    Sorry for my bad English.....

Very much interested in the answer. Please Add this option, the dialer is awesome otherwise.

I have been using exDialer for quite a while now, and (with the addition of a 3rd party theme) I am quite happy with it. I only hope it continues to work with future Android versions, as it seems there is no development on this any more...

There is one thing I'm missing with it - same with most other dialers out there, actually.
The T9 keypad layout for my home language (Greek) follows an obsolete (and quite frankly, entirely stupid) mapping, dating back to the classic old Nokia phones (with physical keys) from the... previous century.
A more appropriate mapping would be the one adopted by HTC (virtual) keypads, that maps greek characters according to the layout followed in full QWERTY keyboards, but this unfortunately never found its way to most 3rd party apps like exDialer.

So, I've been looking for a way to change the layout of the (greek) T9 keypad. Searching in this thread has yielded no results (meaning either there really is nothing to find, or that I was just using the wrong search terms...) and going through all 266 pages hunting for this would be a rather daunting task.

Does anyone know of any method to achieve this - either discussed here, or even perhaps through some 3rd party app...?

Decompiling the app, I *was* able to find a couple of seemingly pertinent files, but without knowing (exactly) what I was doing, it felt more like groping in the dark...

Well Google just removed this app from the play store due to it accessing your call log because you grant it access to your call log. Duh! I chose to keep it. Now i guess the only place for updates is here. Love this dialer and paid for it.

    Hello guys,
I use exdialer since the "stone age", but after exdialer being removed from Google Store, I have a strange issue.
Each and every day I have to uninstall and reinstall again the pro-key.
Besides that, to be able to use it, I'm forced to install Amazon assistant.
Next problem appeared after I installed OneUI beta and installed my apps from backup using MyBackupPro.
That is that I can't find where the confirmation of exdialer is located now :/
It doesn't even appear in the Applications in my Note 10+ settings.
How to setup the app now ??
Any help od you would be of high value for me.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

My custom exDialer app doesn't show call history anymore since update to LOS18.1. I try a newer version, but then I don't even see my contacts. Well, it works well for many years without updates.
Is there a way to grant call log access? Well I gave all permission, but still don't see the call history.
