[APP][2.2+] 子典 Cantonese Dictionary (2.3.3) - Free offline Cantonese-English Dict.

Hi guys, I'd like to introduce my dictionary app for Cantonese-English lookup.

Description

The 子典 Cantonese Dictionary is a free, offline dictionary with over 210K entries.
It offers four lists and according search modes:

• English Meaning (/Description)
• Cantonese Words
• Cantonese Characters
• Jyutping (Romanization)

The entries of this list are asynchronously loaded from a database copied to the internal storage in the background.
The database itself is based on the Cantonese CEDICT project.

I came up with the idea, when I searched myself for a good dictionary for Cantonese, but I've only found Mandarin, not working, and ugly online half-working ones. So I programmed my own with Holo Light and Google Cards UI.

The app is for free, but with a minor banner ad at the bottom of the lists. You can remove the ad and support the development by purchasing the "Adfree" In-App package.

Version 2.1.1
Added a basic text-to-speech / speak function. You can use it in an entry by clicking on the new actionbar button. I made the TTS myself. It contains of about 1600 audio files, so the app is no 5-6MB bigger.

No, I'm from Germany, but my mother came from Hong Kong, so I'm trying to learn more Cantonese and came up with the idea

I come from Hong Kong and studying in UK currently so a dictionary would be really helpful for me,a few suggestion for your app btw
First is the loading time problem,I guess you already saw it in comment in higher play
Second I think it would be great if the keyboard can pop up directly after enter app so it can be faster for user to search words

- Expand search field on launch (Setting)
- Change the default tab opening on launch (Setting)
- Save the database on the external storage (Setting)

First is the loading time problem,I guess you already saw it in comment in higher play
Second I think it would be great if the keyboard can pop up directly after enter app so it can be faster for user to search words

I've added your requested feature to the newest app version
The loading time isn't fixable though :/ I tried making it shorter, but this is all I can get. You can now disable the loading on start and use the search only

There's already an update for the database available, which fixes many Cantonese words' romanization containing english words. Also the update deletes faulty entries.
