Not sure, I am assuming it's a permission issue in android 11 which will require an update to the app, I managed to copy what I needed onto a computer which accessed the required folders without issue,

I can't really speak to the issue but I'm just curious, by what method?

interested to know exactly what the issue is, is this connected to the 'scoped storage' malarky that has been introduced with the latest and greatest version of android?

As with previous Google restrictions, such as not allowing file managers to hand a document to another app unless is in a cached space (perhaps a precursor to scoped storage) and before that duping people into using external as internal storage in cases when it was not necessary, and before that trying to prevent the use of SD cards entirely...there is usually some technological merit to the ideas, but as implemented by Google many of those things don't necessarily improve real-world security and all of them allow Google to even further invade privacy and propagate a needlessly rapid progression of next device, next device, next device. Pardon that little OT rant but with Google set up as a target I could not resist.

I misunderstood your orientation: I always want hidden files shown, so I assumed you were complaining that "Show hidden globally" was *not* showing hidden files some times.

On my device, I have "Show hidden globally" checked and I see a leading-period file in internal storage. When I uncheck SHG, the file is not displayed. (I.e., I cannot reproduce your problem.)

There is an option "Show hidden recursively". I do not have it checked. Do you?

I have not found a "show hidden in just this tab" option. If there is one, maybe you have it asserted.

Nah, not complaining. Just hoping to get 2 minor issues I've been having for a while resolved. It's a great app, the best of it's kind imho.
Took a while but I found the "show hidden recursively"option. Unchecking fixed the issue with the hidden files on internal. Thank you very much.
If possible a little assistance with the otg issue would be appreciated.

I just plugged my phone into the computer running windows 10, navigated to android/data and copied it across, everything seemed to come over fine, dunno what Google's game is, every time there is a new version of android it breaks something, no need google, no need!

Google's approach to problem solving:
If it ain't broke, find new ways to break it and "fix" it in a way nobody asked for.

Okay, so that's a USB connection most likely using MTP (yet another Android limitation on our personal data management). FWIW that may not be the best comparison to the issue you are chasing but from what you and others describe maybe there's hope in MiX.

[It was difficult to press the delete button over the additional Google rant that had been betwixt these brackets but I forced myself to do so, although it is nice to have so much company. :silly:].

I think the issue is that Google is trying to control access to user data from other apps, I have noticed that the built in basic file manager cannot access android/data, it shows blank, think I read somewhere that app developers need to contact Google who will give some permission or other in order to gain access, it's been a while but the other file manager I tried fx file manager, which also had not been updated for android 11 had the same problem, don't know if that app has now been updated as I only really use this one, it's no big deal having to plug into a computer, just stop breaking things Google! and I agree, mtp is a clumsy way to access stuff, sure will get everything working just in time for android 12 to break everything again :D

Well, in my case always the first file in the logs with a permission problem was the Android/data/.nomedia file (whose file mode bits were 640 if I remember right). After granting a+r to all .nomedia files MiXplorer went past this file and complained about the first file inside the very first application folder (also 640). You're talking about the Storage updates in Android 11?

Whatever is causing it, it is really annoying. Sláinte!

The files and folders I was trying to copy are - rw-rw---- 660 the error I got was EACCES (Permission denied), I did some reading and it seemed to point to this scoped storage update implemented in android 11, think this article talks about the changes
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.androidcentral.com/what-scoped-storage?amp
It talks about needing to use Storage Access Framework (SAF) API https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/providers/document-provider
All apps must use these new storage api's on android 11, what error are the logs showing for you?

Also I am rooted with the latest magisk 21005, would that be an issue trying to access a folder on the internal storage?

The error is the same as yours and I'm also on Magisk Canary 21005. chown/chmod doesn't work for me on the TitaniumBackup folder and I cannot even copy this folder via USB/MTP. So I'm afraid the .nomedia file was just misleading. Unfortunately I found no way yet to transfer the TitaniumBackup folder to my PC.

What device are you on? The titanium backup folder on my pixel 3a is internal storage/TitaniumBackup and mixplorer can copy files from there, what error you getting with usb/MTP?

Would someone be able to help me with my basic setup? I have come to this file manager from using FX Explorer for years because development has stalled on that file manager. I have read the tutorial pages (VERY well written and very detailed, I do say!!) and have done a search in this thread, but I do not see the answer to what I'm looking for. What I would like to do is to set up my default opening arrangement, with two tabs being present, both of which are the 'Home'. I have read and learned how to add symlinks to home to be able to get to the folders and storage locations I use most. Now I'd just like to have 2 tabs opened when I start MiX, both being the Home tabs. What I have done is to open the first tab for Home, made that the 'default', then opened a second tab for Home. I put focus back on the first Home tab, and then 'Saved tabs -- now'. Problem I have is that when I start MiX fresh, all I can get is just 1 tab for Home. I must be doing something wrong, but I can't find any information as to what it might be. I could sure use some guidance here. TIA!!!

I don't understand "Home".

If you have two tabs open and hit "Save tabs Now", I think every time you start Mixplorer those two tabs will open. I think "Default" is just to choose which tab is active.

As I said in my question, I did read that section. I read ALL the sections to get to know this file explorer. The section you refer to says:

"To save a group of tabs (tab-set) to be opened at each app start:
- Create the tabs, and open each to the location of your choice.
- To set the default tab (to be active at app start) long press on Tab Title then tap "Set as default".
- Open the Tab drop-down menu, select, "Save tabs", Tap "Now" (leave "On Exit" un-selected).
Note: View detail level and sort order should be remembered per tab."

Again, in my question, I did say that I took those exact steps. I also said it didn't work. It will work for any other combination of tabs, but not for 2 tabs of the same directory, in my case 'Home'.

The 'Home' I'm talking about is in the Bookmarks panel, labeled as 'Home' . It is actually a symlink to the location of /data/data/com.mixplorer.silver/home .

As I said in my question, I did exactly as you describe, except that I made the first tab 'Default', then saved them both Now. It didn't work, and I've tried several times. Only 1 'Home' tab opens on a fresh start..

Dunno if it is a bug but I can confirm you cannot have two tabs the same set as default, when mix reopens it only has the one tab, same even for setting 2 internal storages

I appreciate the confirmation! I have spent a lot of time reading all the faqs, and doing searches, so I just wanted to double-check that it was not something I was missing.

I did just have an idea, tho.... I'm going to make a duplicate 'home' folder, named home2 in the /data/data/......... folder. Then I'll set my second tab to be the 'home2' folder, and try saving that way. It might be a workaround that does the trick. I'll update after I know the result.

I appreciate the help!!

---------- Post added at 11:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:43 AM ----------

That did the trick! I just duplicated the folder using the name Home2, saved the tabs --- now, then restarted MiX, and it worked as I want it. I get two open tabs, the first being default 'Home', and the second being 'Home2'. Again, I appreciate the suggestions and help!!

I see what you're saying now. You're trying to have two of the same directory on separate tabs, which I can see Mix doesn't allow. I have a work around that you can use to achieve this though. Let's assume your home tabs are both sdcard/Download. Open Download in one tab. Then in the other tab open root/data/media/0/Download. Then set one as default. Then save tabs.

Same problem as a few others, I managed to copy something from android/data to a computer by mtp/USB, you could try that, think will have to wait to get the app updated to be able to do it on the phone

I also had this issue while I was still using FX Explorer. I was able to get the job done by entering that folder, then mounting it as 'Read/Write'. Then I did what I needed to do, and when I was done, I remounted it as 'Read Only'. Worked great.

I'm new to Mix, but there is probably a way to do as I described above, I just haven't read up on that part yet... Maybe you already know how to do the mounting as described??

Hold on...So for those of us who purchased the Silver are actually getting older versions than what is being posted here for free? I purchased the Silver so that I wouldn't have to worry about manually upgrading (as well as handling the plugins), but it sounds like you are saying if I am just relying on Play I am working with old versions?

Sorry if I misunderstood, but can you clarify the situation and let those of us who purchased Silver know what the best/proper way to keep updated is.?

    Through Playstore

As dev described there were some issues with the packages at Playstore recently but typically the latest XDA version and the latest Silver versions are the same or very close (differences related to Silver's included add-ons excepted). Occasionally a feature might appear in one before the other but considering the fast pace of development which sometimes occurs it's not such a bad thing for versions to linger on XDA before going to play store. Also, considering that you can get everything included in Silver for free at XDA and keep it updated fairly easily; payment for silver is considered by many to be a form of support for development. In any event, don't, worry you are not losing out, and for what you seem to want - a tidy automatic update path which includes add-ons - just keep using Silver.

In fact latest Silver version is 6.54.2 while latest XDA version is 6.54.1.

You probably meant to, subtly, but some of what you are saying implies the XDA version is a BETA channel. So play store gets the stable version; often. Its all about packaging the message ;)

I have updated the XDA version of MiXplorer (The Standard). If there is a new problem, please let me know. Thank you.

I see Google Play has replied to one of my old messages and apologized for delay response. Only 4 months delay! :) I'm sure there are great and professional people working in Play team and they're doing their best but I really can't bother myself to contact them anymore.
I won't push the publish button for the Silver version which is finally reviewed after 2 days but shared with pirate websites some hours before that. I'm uploading another build as an app bundle and as you should know no one has access except Play team as always. I hope they will do their best.
    19
I finally experienced Android 11 and its scoped storage on a real phone. What a crap! The Android media scanner wasn't enough!
I published multiple experimental builds with target SDK 30 and 'MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE' permission before but I found some issues on emulator which are not reproducible on my device and I didn't know there is a huge difference on performance. So I will change the target to 30 with 'MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE' for the stable and beta versions.
For the Silver version, I improved the performance as much as possible but as you should know Google Play doesn't allow 'MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE' permission, so there is nothing I can do about it for now.
    17
Oh please let's stop with all this indignation about what is a relatively small issue which occurred only recently and about which we've not yet heard from the developer since it was reported just a few days ago. Statements about how the app cannot be used if it's this way or how could it possibly have been left in this absolutely world ending horrible condition don't help. It's been reported and other people who don't even care tested and gave a +1. Now would be an appropriate time to wait for a developer response, and to do so knowing that they are sometimes away from the thread for a while.
    14
As many of you already know, some days ago I updated the Silver version which has many problems because Google is insisting we should build App Bundle instead of APK. So I finally did it but I didn't know it's going to modify the manifest for so called 'optimization' and change the default value of 'extractNativeLibs' to false which makes so much problems in this app. After some minutes I found out what's the problem and as Google document says I should add a Gradle option 'android.bundle.enableUncompressedNativeLibs=false' to prevent it. I'm still not 100% sure that it's going to work but I did and uploaded the new build to Play console. It was an important update because many lovely users got angry and started giving 1 star or contacting me and reporting issues one after another. I'm mentally under pressure since then and waiting for Play to review the app. But 1 day passed and not only they didn't, instead they searched around to find an irrelevant issue to reject the update. They sent me a message and told me there is an issue with some words inside the description of the app. The description which they have reviewed some hundred times during years. Check the screenshot. They had problem with this "area":
'Html viewer which supports MHT, Markdown, AXml, CHM, MAFF and...'.
So I rather to remove them and saved it for the review but another day passed and nothing except that my app is already on many websites. I built an app bundle and uploaded only to Play console but it's now all over the web as an APK with my signature and lovely users are sending feedback about it while it's not even reviewed by Google Play! I'm mentally so tired. I really can't contact Play developer support team anymore. Because I know they're busy and can't help or even answer me. The last time I contacted was the last year. There was an error in Play Console saying there is an issue with your developer account and I sent many messages to both Play console and Google Pay asking why can't users pay for the app and what is the error about but they never answered me. But they answered to every single buyers and told them that developer is responsible for that. No selling for 2 months. I just kept reading documents and sending messages and personal documents to their bots I guess until the Pay button got activated.
If they review the app, I'm not sure if I should publish the app this time. I need an official and professional answer to this question that how is it possible that the app which I've uploaded only to Play console is all over the web and signed with my signature? Is there any other section in Google company I can contact about this issue?
    13
There is a problem with installing the APK bundle I've uploaded in Play store. It doesn't extract the libraries and MiX can't execute shell commands without root. There are many problems with recent Silver versions. I will fix it soon.
