İ have tried with another app now. İt is working.

So it is a bug for Mixplorer

Thank you

There's no objection to the fact that you found a workaround but none of the information provided establishes this is a bug with mixplorer or even gives other people a target for testing. Again, this is not to say it might not be the real issue but you don't get to declare something is a bug without any empirical and or reproducible evidence.

FMs have to deal with Google's restrictions more than any other piece of software, so I'd argue it is on-topic. If you talk to Material Files' developer ( who works at Google ) he would probably tell you how he develops around Google's guidelines and when asked to break those "good practices" for the benefit of users, he won't. But if you head over to FX's thread here in XDA instead you'll see the multiple complaints the developer has about, as it has been called, "Google's direction", and that's the developer himself raising these points once and again in that thread -- and to Google, who consistently ignore him. This is pretty much THE topic, with file managers.
and its already been solved. Just set your ROOT namespace to global. The dev here has obviously chosen to use java to get a listing of directories.

Hey, thanks for this app. It was surprisingly hard to find an Android file explorer app that had both SMB browsing and a built-in picture slideshow feature. Works great here.

A minor suggestion for the slideshow options, as I sometimes use it to quickly scan through full-size photos - an option to disable the next photo animation. It’d also be nice to set a lower delay than 1500 (ms?), to 1000 or even lower. Though that may not be needed without an animation.

Also, there seems to be a minor bug where zooming in on a photo will jump to max zoom. This is with the latest non-beta version I downloaded from here today, on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 on Android 11. Thanks again!

I had no issue to start with, I run my own version of Android. So you miss my point, was not referring to the specific problem. I was saying a discussion about Google's changes or restrictions is on topic in a file manager's thread, complaints and all.

Edit : In fact you can find plenty of complaints from Hootan too about anything Google all over the thread. Hardly off-topic or wasted. That's what I was commenting on.

So, as I understand it, acessing android/data without fiddling with something root is needed for, we can't use MiX for that anymore if root is no option? Or does it mean @HootanParsa has to change that in his project before building MiX?

Very confusing and no solution I can do anything about I guess. I don't want/need root or Magisk or whatever.

Yes, and this is not uncommon in the development of Android, just a natural progression. With each of the last few Android version there have been changes in Google requirements and rules about apps accessing areas of the device that are not part of their own directory (and other things). For file managers which are designed to access the entire device this is a limitation which developers must work through... if that is possible. In addition to restrictive Google policies there are the different ways that they impact different apps on a different devices. In other words, much variability. Even some custom roms with root sometimes could not even access such locations on the same device.

So, when Google tries to prevent us from having the freedom that we want or require on our devices (merits of the restrictions aside) the developers try to work around it with information provided by the people who test. In that flow it is not uncommon for root to be required for a solution. In some cases a solution without requiring root may be found, and in other cases only the root solution may work.

@HootanParsa I think I'm having a bug logging into Mediafire with an email address that contains a "+" in it.
As you may know you can use gmail addresses with a +XXXX qualifier.
So for [email protected] you can also contact that address with [email protected]
My mediafire account is [email protected]. I am unable to use MiX to login to my mediafire with my "[email protected]" address, but I can use it without issue on mediafire site.

Can you look into? thanks.

From what I read in another thread here on xda, Solid Explorer can access android/data. Tried it a minute ago and it really works - without root. So it is possible. How they do it? No clue. That's up to @HootanParsa to reverse/find out.

I think there was talk that if an app targets SDK29 (or maybe lower), it will act as it did in A10. Although the doc below explicitly states that scoped storage on A11 is enforced, regardless of your SDK.

I also recentl;y read the following when looking up for something totally unrelated. It talks of various ways to side step the new scoped storage. But from memory, I think its all about external SD not the internal data partition.

Without reading it too carefully (I was looking for something totally unrelated), I would assume that having a backdoor would negate the security fix.

I remember some mention of a Filemanager permission -- maybe "permission" is the wrong word. Maybe it also involves @HootanParsa prostrating himself before Google, begging the boon of being recognized as worthy. Given the way he's been betrayed by someone in the Play Console hierarchy, I'm not surprised if he hasn't applied.

Google would not listen to @HootanParsa. He is but one person, where there are millions of other android users they are trying to protect. I have dealt with the playstore "gods" before. They are not high up in the android decision making process at all. The actual limitations of scoped storage makes sense to me, security wise. If anything, the thing that personally bugs me a little, is that I have to switch the root namespace to global for every root app. I would of liked to only specifically change the namespace to global for selected apps. But that is magisk not android/google or MiX, and once I allow an app root, there must be some trust.

I would like to try to remove the namespace change in magisk, and try the various shell commands they give in the above document I linked, to see if it has any effect.

Internet Explorer 11 on a Windows 7 desktop can generate MHT webpage archive files (one file containing all html and images/css files in it).

But if I try to open one of these MHT file in MiX, it opens in a text mode displaying html text and not the original webpage with embedded images in it.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Open as an archive not a text

I was originally selecting "HTML Viewer" when I tapped on the file.

But "archive" is not listed in the first pop-up dialog, so I had to select "open as..." in that first dialog that appears, then select "Archive" in the second pop-up, then select "HTML Viewer" in the third dialog and then it did display the webpage properly.

That is kind of non-intuitive to do that whole process, so I hope it will be made easier in a future version of MiX.

    @HootanParsa I got 2 little requests.
HTML Viewer can view xlsx, but can't view xls. Great thing about Mix is that it's html viewer can view spreadsheets (xlsx) & documents (docx) too. Somehow I can't open xls with it...but can view xlsx.

On cloud storages like Google drive, we're able to open text files (.txt) only through code editor, we need text editor there too.

Also is it possible to also view slides (ppt) somehow? Caz if I can view those, means I can remove those ****ty big office apps that view docs, sheets & slides.

Does Internet Explorer open the archive files easily?

    Isn't ".xls" "Excel Spreadsheet"?
Yes. Great thing about Mix is that it's html viewer can view spreadsheets (xlsx) & documents (docx) too. Somehow I can't open xls with it...but can view xlsx.

Caz I don't wanna hang on some chinese WPS or heavy bloated Google docs, sheets, or ms office.
The only thing I miss in Mix html viewer is viewing presentations (ppt).

SDK 30 is not considered BETA by Google, its live. However, it is still being developed. Which, is also a reason to stop using SDK29, as its no longer being developed (or not having as much time expended on it). The restriction you have come across is not because SDK is less in any way than SDK29, but BECAUSE it is more developed in line where google have chosen to direct Android and in particular, its security.
I would be really happy to be a part of development and to be used as a free beta-testing platform, but unfortunately I want a working device and want to spend my own time for my own life rather than for someone's development.

Reverted to a working 6.53.5 (by the way 6.53.6 and 6.53.7 those were mentioned here are also affected - don't use them).

/data/data isn't accessible for all apps. It shows data of gms & mixplorer only. Am I missing something or it's still a bug on mixplorer?
Unfortunately you are missing something. Please perform a quick search on this thread to find out

What I said is when you tap on the html files on your storage, it will add FireFox as an option and you can use it to open html files. Do you have problem with that opened html and browsing the links in this server? If yes, then send me a sample file for testing. Thanks.
Edit: I got what you said. I will work on it.
My mistake. I thought you had changed the HTTP server. As you say, tapping on .htm file in Mixplorer now offers all of my browsers as "Open with" options.

But, if you did not change the HTTP server, why is the behavior in the presence of a "index.htm" file changed?
(Before I updated Mixplorer, if I started an HTTP server and visited it in my browser, the directory was displayed; clicking on "index.htm" displayed that page. Now, when I tap on the directory containing "index.htm", the "index.htm" page immediately displays in the browser.)

That basic HTTP server is a separate feature. I just tried to improve the upload function.
I didn't find any change. This is how it works for a long time. When you open a directory which contains 'index.htm' or 'index.html', it will jump to that page. I will add an option for it...

@HootanParsa hi dev. can you add the change log of the latest version in about section inside the app. thank you

@HootanParsa the missing "Year" variable has been found and returned to it's legal guardian aka Tagger again after updating to 6.55.5. Thanks for the fix! 😁

Imagine the Police comes to your property and says we thought your doors are open to everyone. Are they?! Yes, people come inside, do whatever they want and then leave. So for your protection, security, privacy, whatever, you must gain permission from us to use your every single room. What about my warehouse? Forget that one! Bathroom is also gonna be locked and since now you have to use the common public bathroom under our protection.
      Thank you Police! 😽

Let's experience the scoped storage with this build.
I had to search million lines of codes in all libraries I'm using for the methods which make the app slow because of this masterpiece (SS) and its high level of programming.
Add > Document provider > Find and select every single default folder in the root of storage, if it's allowed by the Center.
It's all for our security and privacy for sure as the Center says but I personally rather to turn off my phone and hide under the bed. :)

There is a leak in Play console and store services and people still have access to the apps that are not published. It is completely unacceptable. Users have contacted me about this and even insulted me for the late publish while it's accessible from pirate websites and this is Play team who is responsible for that. It's happening for a very long time and they haven't done anything about it. I have contacted them long before and they said they're not responsible. Probably Aliens are! :)
Thanks to @EuK_V for the investigation.
      13
Is there anything we can do to help?
(Online petition? Paper letters accusing Google of colluding with pirates?)
One of my guesses was because of the pandemic there are some reviewers at home with pajama who have contract with Google to review the apps but they're not doing their job professionally. :)
They're not directly colluding with pirates ( Are they?! ). They're just ignoring messages and not accepting that there is a leak. Probably because they're just so busy working on their masterpieces like scoped storage and the media scanner! :D
There is a way that you can generate a link to download an unpublished build, if you can guess the build number.
