First time post here. Great app dev Hootan can see the immense amount of work that has gone into it - really appreciate the masterpiece you have created (and every tester who has assisted to get it here).

    Background:
I am a long time user of EDS encryption software (coming from a root background where it was able to mount encrypted files for use by external apps). In recent years as root becomes less attractive I've been trying to get it to work reliably in a similar way to 'mount' by using the 'content provider' method it employs (forgive me if this is wrong terminology).

A handful of apps which use SAF can interact with an EDS 'opened' (not mounted) container.
So far, I've found 1) AA Image viewer (Read only, images ... very slow)
    2) FX Explorer ('Connect to Storage feature' - read / write ok ... has problem deleting directories with files)
    3) Synchroniser Ultimate (reads and writes perfectly!)
    4) MiXplorer 6.53.5 (some issues)
    -----
    Mixplorer Issues observed:

    1) When using MiXplorer, it can connect to storage via 'Add Document Provider'.... but only sees the root folder files.
--> Attempting to browse subfolders shows no files :-(

    2) As Nokono describes with USB sticks, once the EDS container is unmounted it sticks in the MiX Bookmarks menu, and you can't delete it. Only successful way is to reset MiX storage (maybe access - I didn't try that yet) - but that has its drawbacks as discussed above.

    3) If remounting EDS, you need to reconnect it to MiX again and the old 'ghost' provider is still there (FX doesn't need this)

    4) ... Likely related to 2) .. if accidentally clicking on one of the ghost bookmark document provider entries, it interacts with the EDS document driver, and sets ALL files to 0 length (!) on the open EDS container. I have lost data a few times this way ... luckily had backups.

Sorry for long post, I realise this is a niche use case as I searched the thread and didn't see anyone else attempting to use EDS with MiX, though I think at least part of the issues I'm experiencing could be similar to those affecting USB drives.

Also @Nokono, you mention an older version worked better in that case, could you please advise which one?, I will also test it with EDS.

Thanks in advance for any help
    Charlie

[EDIT] Forgot to say, using a TrueCrypt FAT32 container with EDS
    6.50.0 version, for example

Thanks for quick response Nokono .. will go a-testing and report back.
    cheers
    Charlie
Ahh looks like v6.51.6_B21020750 is the first version that added Document Providers.

I guess for my EDS use case would need this feature .... if this is the feature that broke bookmark un-mounting for USB in post 6.50 versions, then I guess we need to revert to the dev for some insight?

I'll download the latest beta at least and re-test if anything has changed w-r-t to EDS interaction via the Document Provider since 6.53.5
    cheers, Charlie

    Some quick fire results.

Just tested with 6.54.7 and it looks very promising - huge improvements well done dev!!!

Some further observations, re issues in my long post:

    1) This now works .. able to see subfolder files perfectly no issues in mounted EDS container, and very fast!
    2) Document bookmarks still stick... still have to reset data to remove them
    3) I tested what happens if you close MiXplorer --> close and reopen the EDS container --> then reopen MiX
    - I tried connecting to a subfolder bookmark .... this doesn't survive the above, says folder can't be found
    - Bookmark to the base of the EDS container does survive ... means you can open a EDS container and click on a shortcut in Bookmarks to access it between EDS uses (havent tested between reboots)
    4) I havent been able to corrupt data, even clicking on stale bookmarks this time.
    -----
    Further observations:

    - Read write appears to work for the most part, although pasting files between 2 folders on the connected document provider says operation failed (but still works successfully - got to go out of the target folder and back in to see the files)
    - Deleting a folder with files fails (as per FX), though deleting the files within the folder first then allows you to delete the folder.

Other than that looks promising - will test copying some larger files and see how reliable it is.

    Some further suggestions:
    - Would be good if we could rename the Document Provider bookmarks (and remove them of course as per 2 above - which goes for USB too I would guess)
    - How cool would it be if MiX could allow an FTP root from the connected Document Provider base folder? - that would be a killer feature, combined with EDS can expose an encrypted container from your phone (before anyone asks, already tried it with a built in encFS container in 6.53.5 and it didnt allow it...)

    regards

If I am understanding correctly, that doesn't sound like a problem with MiX, but rather your photo app is displaying a cached copy of the photo.

Check More Settings in MiX and try checking Update media store if it isn't checked.
True, I have noticed that. Update media store is turned on btw. The dev have told me via email to rename the directory and it do update the thumbnails. Tho I have tried an app to update media store, it worked once and stopped lol

Hootan loves when people mention 20 bugs, 30 other file managers where features work and 0 logs. Please guys, be helpful if you want help, he needs to replicate the environment and conditions in order to reproduce the issue and hopefully fix it.
Hi, sorry if thats aimed at me a bit of a noob in this thread :) ...
Happy to provide logs, I saw the post on how to do it somewhere ... as per my post many of the initial issues already fixed though.

I'll see if I can get some logs around the folder copying / deleting issues I observed. Not sure if they would only be specific to usage with EDS, or affect all (or some) Document provider linked storages (USB - anyone care to test?).

It's 2.30am now in Oz, so will have to be another night as off to bed, but I'll be back lol.

    best regards

Honestly, I have no knowledge of much of what you are talking about, but I have a document provider bookmark to my USB drive and that can be renamed like any other bookmark, by swiping right on it in the bookmark menu and selecting the edit icon.

A detailed review from a new user, especially one who seems to know their way around, can seem insistent or presumptuous even if that is not the intent and it is just a walk-through of observations. This isn't to say that there are no bugs but as previously mentioned details and logs focused on the individual issues are the way to go. To your point about USB possibly being a niche case for you I am unlikely to be able to replicate anything close to what you describe but will check USB OTG on a couple of devices in the next few days...just for kicks and because I've not used it in a while.

    Hi all,

Thanks Ironmonkey, certainly not my intention to sound insistent or presumptuous, my aim was to contribute and help improve the app. As you say my post was more an initial walkthrough of observations insofar as a specific request to fix anything as yet - I thought someone else might be attempting to use EDS with MiX as per my use case and having similar experiences.

In 6.54.7 there appears to be a HUGE improvement in stability with the Document Provider over 6.53.5, and can I say to marcozomb13's comment that no other file manager I have tested does this properly, not Xplore, not Solid....(they can't even connect to EDS). FX did it ok, but MiX has now surpassed it .... As of 6.54.7 MiX is at the forefront in what is possible in this area (interacting with an EDS opened container through the document provider). It even generates image thumbnails from the opened EDS container which FX doesn't (though sadly not video thumbnails).

Re: my two feature suggestions, I think they might already be implemented (so feel sheepish!):
    - I am still testing, though on first glance it seems to allow running the FTP server from the EDS base directory - will further test and confirm if it has any issues serving or updating files
@rsngfrce - thank you. Yes I realised that myself also overnight when further tinkering with the bookmarks. You can swipe right and rename / remove them (good, but not intuitive from a UI perspective for a user who doesn't know this is possible, maybe a menu on long press, or edit bookmarks button would be more obvious? - don't shoot me down I like the right swipe just saying if you don't know its there it's not obvious)

RE: the USB auto removing when unplugged issue, I now also realise that use case is slightly different. I guess for USB you want an unplugged device to remove the bookmark. For EDS though, now that the bookmark doesn't become 'disconnected' between uses I kind of like having a permanent bookmark in MiX I can click on to quickly access the EDS container when it is opened.

I take everyone's point about logs and agree, and will certainly be in a position to provide some targeted logs and write smaller posts :) once I confirm if indeed some of the things I am observing are indeed bugs, or just user ignorance lol. Some of them could be EDS issues also as I am testing the interaction between that software after all.

Thanks to all for your consideration.
    regards
    Charlie

In Build 6.54.6. I've been having significant issues with opening files in ImageViewer (cbz/cbr/cb7/zip, etc) in SMB in Mixplorer. It would load for minutes and sometimes would not load up the images at all, but would time out. I have tested this with many files and only 1 file loaded properly after much delay.

Build 6.53.5 did not have this issue and reverting back to that version + SMB addon resolves the issue. The same files that struggled for minutes in 6.54.6 loaded instantly in 6.53.5.

    Is anyone having similar issues?

Edit: Can confirm no issues in Build 6.54.1 + SMB addon. Could it be related to the SMB being deprecated or the CBZ update in 6.54.4?
Edit: CBZ, CBT, CB7 are 10x faster with the latest BETA. If there is a new problem, please let me know.

Yerp, that's another thing people will get on you for (including me, somebody just beat me to it :)). But seriously, in an app with as many features and configuration options not everything may be intuitive. You might want to check out the FAQ, in particular the "Nuggets" section (links to standalone individual short topics, eg servers, etc, and maybe stuff about the UI (season to taste). While exploring long press is your friend.

Haha, thanks IronTechmonkey, it was I myself who beat you to it :giggle: - Thanks, yeah the nuggets are useful, I previously read about the bookmark rename feature but forgot it was there lol. Fair point, the dev has done a good job cramming all that versatility in, def not complaining.

In terms of what I am testing, some people may not be familiar with EDS, but it is a long term bit of android software kept alive by a great dev, and can handle VeraCrypt(R), TrueCrypt(R), LUKS, EncFs, CyberSafe(R) container types (http://www.sovworks.com/). Since running non-root phones it lost some of its attraction as you lose the ability to 'mount' those containers, but using this method through the MiX Document Provider setting means you can gain similar benefits (and more - ftp for example), so genuinely excited about it as been waiting for a few years for something to come along that can work reliably with it.

When I get a sec, I'll write up a short rundown of my setup on how I'm attempting to use EDS with MiX through the document provider (versions, settings, etc) so others can have a play.

As IronTechmonkey already somewhat said, I would say the greatest disadvantage to MiX is that it isn't always intuitive or obvious, but it is very powerful and customizable for those who actually enjoy messing around with it, to personalize it and see what it is capable of, as much as just using it as a file explorer. That is why there is a whole separate FAQ thread. 😄

I don't know what the generally accepted behavior is when unplugging a USB drive, but my USB drive shortcut persists in MiX when unplugged and I prefer it that way. I believe it is removed in Solid Explorer.

Long time MiXplorer user here who is about to (for the first time) experiment with encrypting files and folders on my device, so your posts have definitely piqued my interest. My first inclination is to see what MiXplorer can do in that regard; haven't even done any reading yet, but know that MiX is kinda magical in so many other ways, so would not be surprised if it will do what I want.

Looking forward to your posts about interaction of MiXplorer and EDS (coincidentally EDS Lite is one of the encrytion apps I've downloaded).

Oh, and welcome to the conversation.

Is it possible for ImageViewer to have additional settings such as manga view (where left/right page turn is reversed), or adjusting the size of the next page tap?

To turn pages, I have to press at the exact edge of the screen. Is it possible to customize that size, so that pressing anywhere on either half of the screen turns the pages?

Does stroking the screen turn the page?

I don't understand why you want the direction controls reversed. If you are reading right-to-left, don't you instinctively flip right / tap on left edge to get to the next page?

    @HootanParsa
Hello Hootan and welcome back in thread!
I know you are busy with other more important things than this but I wanted just to report that from the latest Silver build I noticed that every time I click on a folder link in Home screen, before the complete retrieved list of that folder is showed, it appears always first the built in "document" bookmark (content://mix/document) alone in the window, and then it is replaced by the files list...
It is really annoying and I am sure that is something related to some changes you made in latest builds. See picture. So you can take a look into it. Thanks
Hootan, thank you for fixing this.
Please, trying removing duplicates links in Home folder (I do not remember why duplicates are created in Home, pheraphs a new update or a language switch...) the confirmation delete dialog shows for some link the size of the link to remove (32b) but for some Internal Storage links or SdCard the dialog shows the full real size with the progress size update label...
Is still a link or deleting from home will delete the Internal Storage?? I think this must be fixed. Please take a look at this. Thank you. Screenshot_20210419-214044_MiXplorer.jpgScreenshot_20210419-214053_MiXplorer.jpg

Isn't it a big day today?
I see the first opening post was made on May 17, 2011. I understand that MiX probably started earlier, but 10 years on XDA this is something! 10 years of active development and awesome support is a real achievement!
      Congrats to @HootanParsa !
      Best wishings! Keep it up!
      Godspeed! 👍👍👍

This is NOT a bug report, just an observation of something I would not expect. I experienced no error, and only saw it when I was checking another app.

I ran the test soon after startng my phone, BEFORE I even ran MiX. It was simply a boot. I ran a check of SELinux failures while checking for another specific app, but saw the following line for MiX. And I see them every day,.multiple times. But, as i said, I don't see/notice any adverse effects, but would not expect them to happen. But somethikng that MiX is trying to do, is being blocked by SELinux.

The second line is the SELinux allow, as the script I use generates these from the log line. I previously used it when I built ROMs from source, but I plan to use it now with custom magisk modules.

      Code:
      # 05-15 08:19:39.750 11670 11670 W com.mixplorer: type=1400 audit(0.0:231): avc: denied { read } for name="sdcard" dev="tmpfs" ino=28158 scontext=u:r:untrusted_app:s0:c9,c257,c512,c768 tcontext=u:object_r:mnt_sdcard_file:s0 tclass=lnk_file permissive=0 app=com.mixplorer
      allow untrusted_app mnt_sdcard_file:lnk_file {  read  };

I made my mind... for now. I always check what app is the best and often change (came from root explorer to solid explorer, tried many epub reader,...)

As I and others have echoed no one is trying to change your mind, but if you've made up your mind there is not much point in continuing to beat the drum... especially with fanboys such as I about :D

As for the log file, I'm not installing the app again just to generate a log file. I'm not even sure the dev will take this into consideration...

No harm or foul in your decisions (which I actually understand) but I'm fairly sure that if the issue "...won't stay connected to my Onedrive account..." is a MiX problem it would be taken into consideration, especially if reported with cause establishing details.
      4
Don't know what it is, just to report, if needed i will paste log..

I don't think you will need a log. I played with this bit. It's definitely the size bar. The reason it looks like just dots is that those items are relatively small, but the biggest items should have a bar instead of a dot... if they are big enough relative to everything else.

I'm glad you pointed this out. Although I find the status bars somewhat useful in the user-created folders search bookmark, in an all files search bookmark they lose their usefullness as evidenced by the fact that so many items just appear as dots. Other people may actually like that but IMO it would be nice to be able to disable the bars for the all files search bookmark or some other way to save that screen space.
      4
Dots appear on any view: compact, columned, detailed, wrapped, grid, gallery.. But only when i select - "All files", any other location doesn't have these dots.

I was tought this was skin or something, so i try fresh install, same happen again with default settings..

Older builds doesn't have this dots, so this is some bug..

This might be a byproduct of the new type="folder" search which would be used to show storage details per folder, including a status bar. IIRC there was a recent instance when similar dots appeared where they should not and turned out to be related to the space reserved for the status bar (or something like that, I'm not sure)...and the All files item is a similar type of search bookmark.

Imagine the Police comes to your property and says we thought your doors are open to everyone. Are they?! Yes, people come inside, do whatever they want and then leave. So for your protection, security, privacy, whatever, you must gain permission from us to use your every single room. What about my warehouse? Forget that one! Bathroom is also gonna be locked and since now you have to use the common public bathroom under our protection.
      Thank you Police! 😽

Let's experience the scoped storage with this build.
I had to search million lines of codes in all libraries I'm using for the methods which make the app slow because of this masterpiece (SS) and its high level of programming.
Add > Document provider > Find and select every single default folder in the root of storage, if it's allowed by the Center.
It's all for our security and privacy for sure as the Center says but I personally rather to turn off my phone and hide under the bed. :)
