Which version should I install?

The FAQ says "Note: it is always a good idea to check the main thread's OPs to see what version # is flagged as stable, as well as check the change-log."

I can't see any mention in the OP of what version # is flagged as stable.

The change-log says v6.55.2_B21050440 is the latest version.

There are two files attached to the OP:

MiXplorer_v6.55.3_B21050510.apk
and
MiXplorer_v6.55.3-API29_B21050520.apk

(Samsung S9. Android 10. Rooted.)

Thanks.

You've found the versions you seek. The difference between the one for API29 and the other (IIRC for API30) has to do with a certain type of issue. There are a few posts about it floating around but not yet linked to the FAQ. You should be okay with MiXplorer_v6.55.3_B21050510.apk until the documentation is sorted out. If you do have to switch to the other later on it will be easy to export and import settings between versions. I'll try to find the relevant post but it wouldn't surprise me if someone who already knows posts an answer before I do.

Thanks. I already tried the Breadcrumbs. It was very small and crowded. I'll give it another shot. Thx

Well, at first you presented this as a feature request as if it did not exist. OK, so too small.

EDIT: Yes. Breadcrumbs offers the clickable path but it's just too small to use.

On my devices it is reasonably sized but this can depend on many factors including device properties and display and font settings. You could share a screenshot of it to see if any other people, particularly themers, might be able to suggest something.

It's too cramped to click on the home plate and back arrow.

The breadcrumb bar requires no tapping on arrows, just the behavior you initially described: "...top path scrollable horizontally and clickable ...so you can single tap any folder in the path to go back..."

That being said, to your point the Home Plate could certainly be bigger (even on my devices where the breadcrumb bar is reasonably sized). Also, maybe it should show the name of that home location. Although that location may visible in the tab label or the top bar, having it in the breadcrumb bar would make the complete path more obvious and would make that button bigger.

In any event, sharing a screenshot would probably be helpful.

I have a problem.

MiXplorer is constantly asking me to "allow access to downloads".

It happens nearly every time I move around in MiXplorer, like open any folder.

A screenshot of the thing that keeps popping up is attached. What you're looking at is my Downloads folder in Internal Storage but I'm not trying to look in that folder. It just pops up every time I go to any new folder whether on my SD card or in internal storage..

Samsung Galaxy S9, SM-G960F, starlte
Android 10
Alexis ROM 2.6
Rooted
MiXplorer 6.55.3 B21050510

I'm happy to provide more details but that's all I can think of for now. (Sorry, I don't know the SU method - but I have Magisk Manager if that helps.)

The only thing I can think of why it's my Downoads folder that keeps popping up asking for permission is that's where the MiXplorer app was downloaded to and installed from?

Please can someone help. It's really annoying! Thanks.

(AFAIK) That has to do with the document provider access similar to what many people have had to do for years to allow apps to access external drives and is possibly related to a recent addition to the app. IIRC the prompt may open to a subfolder but typically access is granted at the root of which ever drive is needed.

You would benefit from searching for those things - and the search terms are unique enough and the relevant posts are easy enough to find. Case in point for your API question, so why am I doing these searches instead of drinking coffee? I'll need that coffee to explain things that are not already explained. ;)

I want to refresh the media files with a media scan so that Google Photos can see newly added files. I thought Mix had an option to force a rescan on a directory but I cannot find the option.

I searched this thread and the FAQ thread and I can find some mentions of the Media Scanner but no instructions.

Can anyone assist?

Long press on "Internal storage" ( or wherever you are in the filesystem .. ) and see the highlighted option in the menu.

Please don't consider this an aggressive nag but for what it is worth, searching this thread or the FAQ for [refresh media] will find answers to that question within the first 10 posts. Searching an individual XDA thread is still cumbersome (even from desktop browser) but it seems the site has been fully reindexed since the transition and results will be found when distinctive search terms are used.

I did try searching the Main Thread and the FAQ thread for "media scan" and "media scanner" and could not find the answer. I aslo tried "media store" as you suggested and I could not find an answer. When searching for "media store" I did find a reference to the option. I did try searching both ona Android browser and and Windows PC browser.

As you mentioned, searching a thread is cumbersome.

Thanks, twice, IronTechmonkey.

I found this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...y-featured-file-manager.1523691/post-84955563 - with a search and even though it addresses a different problem, I think I've fixed it. I don't really know what I did to be honest!

By the way, your full stop/period broke your link. No bother, of course, just saying, maybe better to leave a space in case someone even stupider than me comes along.

No implied criticism of your effort. I've been exploring the search feature and in general find searching to be a puzzle game (when I'm doing it for fun and not by proxy). In this case the trick was in the choice of words "refresh" and "media" which we're a bit more unique than "media" and "scanner".

Pasting the link again fixed it and I was moving too fast to stop and figure out why. Thanks for the tip. The document provider stuff has no home in the FAQ yet but really needs one because it's not the type of thing people will figure out by exploring. I'll note the link you shared for when I get to it.

@HootanParsa is there any use of holding a PDF page & copying the whole page text ?...It might be better if we can select specific word/line so that it's easier to extract the text from pdf.
He can always make an image file reproducing a page. It's a crap shoot whether the PDF file contains text, so it might not be possible to select text.

Hi, I noticed that Solid Explorer is able to show used storage/quota on ownCloud or WebDAV network storage (see screenshot).

With the MiXplorer I can't see this. It's important for me. Am I doing something wrong or is MiXplorer not able to show it?

Hi.
Since, unfortunatelly can't remember but newest and at least few versions back, OTA doesn't work.
In Bookmarks is visible but when I tap on it got message: "doesn't exist!" When I use mixplored usb drivers is works. Now i got back to v6.53.2_B21030720 and it works. I'm on Android 11. Does someone know this problem?

Also, as I said, happens with images or any other kind of file. If MiX serves index.html fine to be opened, why doesn't it do it with anything else, html or otherwise ?
That's just the way webservers are meant to work. index.html or, if you use php to render pages it's index.php, will always be used to display the default page, because the server is expecting index.xxx to be there. This _must_ work on any webserver, always. If it doesn't, the webserver is broken/not properly configured.

Again, I do know that -- exactly why I said MiX's http server IS a web server, however simple. The question is why renaming index.html to test.html, test.html cannot be opened, but only downloaded.

Hence, back to my initial question, can it be fixed on MiX's side ? Any other local web server I run on the device works properly.

Just go to settings > more settings > reset > remember

When I saw your reply that I can find it on the first page, I thought there would be a direct link on the first page. I didn't know that you meant I need to click FAQ - read APKmirror is one of places to get an apk - go to APKmirror and search Mix Codecs.

Within the app, Settings > Addons > add button > Mix Codecs takes it to play store, hence my question if I can get it somewhere else. Not sure why you mention it again.

FYI, if things that are findable by searches are asked about the responses will often include reminders about the different places and ways of searching. If other people hadn't done that it I would have done so for better or worse.

That being said here is a tip about this FAQ which may help in any Forum or thread. Answers to many common questions can be found by using the official thread search function although in some cases finding effective search words is difficult or if there are many results it can be hard to find the right result. Additionally there is a more basic way to search threads; That is to just go to the first page of that thread and search for the keywords on the web page. That is old and simple method of searching but should flush out anything that is findable in the FAQ. Additionally most threads usually explain those things in the first couple of posts.

By way of explanation, AFAIK at one point in the past some of the add-ons were for pay. At some date that changed and most of them were removed from the play store but the codec add-on one is still available there. That's why tapping the codec add-on within mix takes you to the Play Store but tapping the other add-ons takes you to the web page.

[EDIT] I wrote and posted this before seeing the three preceding 3 posts arguing about searching for answers. Having been right and wrong on both sides of that argument in the past I am coming from no high ground and casting no criticism but... If it seems like minimal or no effort was put into searching there will be nags about the realistic expectation to search. Most of the time the nags seem to be on the mark and sometimes they might not be.

    So it goes.

Sad but laziness is becoming the new black. Thread should be a source of information to be searched. I'll be always against the Spoonfeed because is not educative. Period.

You've probably noticed that I'm gentler about this than I used to be but I still make sure the spoon has rough edges so people don't want to feed off it too much, and even if that becomes spoon-feeding it will include a lesson in searching that will likely not be ignored the next time by that particular person, at least I hope.. :)

Can I install codecs addon from somewhere other than play store?
Try this: Within MiX > menu > settings > add-ons > tap on of the other add-ons (takes you to website) > navigate to codecs add-on folder > download appropriate version.

Well, DiamondJohn has a point, in that eventually we all have to move on. But no need to go to extremes and kill everything that is not the latest and greatest, I think. Anyway, up to Hootan.

( Says the one who runs unstable nightlies, not even alphas, of most software ... )

Pffffft, I'm 60 years old and would probably not have an issue keeping my OP7 and staying on OOS10 for the rest of my life :D

I'm skipping OOS11 for sure, I even disabled the updater app through TiBu so it can't annoy me. I might consider OOS12, depending on what else Google f*cks up ... or I'll just stay on 10 indefinitely. The only thing missing would be security patches and if you use common sense, don't click on everything that jiggles or meows and don't install apps from shady sites you can still live a long and happy life without those silly patches.

As long as Hootan still supports older Android versions I'll be golden 🤞 :)

    MOD ACTION:

    Thread cleaned.

Guys, please interact in a cool and calm manner. There is no need for off topic posts even if the OP allows it. Especially if such posts lead to harsh words. The world is already in turmoil, let us not add our bit to it.

    Stay safe! Thank you.

The new builds are uploaded. If there are new problems specially with the servers, please let me know. Thank you.

I haven't tested how far I can push it, but instead of issuing scan all media/media mounted intent, I have programmatically built a list of files myself, and then explicitly told the media scanner to scan each specific file in my list. It was pretty quick in updating the media db.
The main problem is the media files. If I copy my 250 thousands music, images, videos in my device, then it's going to scan the content of those files to retrieve the metadata. They have done a great job in the recent versions of Android by improving the media retriever performance. It can extract the metadata from almost 8 files for 1 second, in my fastest device. It is incredibly fast but I have to wait many hours for scanner to finish the job to just get the basic info about my files. What if I rename one of my root folders during that time? All again. It's a joke. The whole design and the way it is working and updating is bad and even dangerous. In some cases it's possible you even lose many of your files during updating the media db. There are many problems which I'm lazy to explain. They could scan the whole files only for the basic info, in one thread, for a very short time and then whatever they need to do in different threads later. They could make it very fast, smart, efficient and useful but they didn't.
What I wrote is based on my testings and experience on my Android devices. Maybe I'm wrong!
    9
Thanks for the log but please don't remove the startup info, the next time.
It says the file is moved (from MiX cache folder) but the target file doesn't exist. Then it tries to copy but the source is moved and probably it gets deleted. There should be a delay. I will add some codes to check it multiple times. Try the next update and tell me the result. Thank you.
@iWARR You can write how many posts you want even off-topic. I've never called moderators. But you should know I've waited for some days and published many builds and still didn't get any test result. Just wanted to let you know that I have to close the case and remove the changes. Thanks for the advices anyway.
