Hello,
Android 10, RUI1.0.
The HTTP server force closes when I use an external download manager to download files. I think this is the relevant part of the log:
Code:
I/WebServer> Server uri /APK/x.apk
D/WebServer> STREAM Type: application/vnd.android.package-archive
E/
########### FC #################################################################################
>  java.lang.Error: sendResponse(): Status can't be null.
Also when using content://mix/app as the folder I can't download APKs. Is it a limitation?
I get a loop like this: Local IP>Local IP/x.apk(no download starts, back to same page).
Trying again: Local IP/x.apk/x.apk (no download starts) and so on.

Could be related to this one (if that one is not just a time out).

Log it, Please. ;) ... but first, "A while" could be anything from a planck second to the age of the universe :D, so, getting to the nitty gritty:

Depending on your circumstances (which are unknown since you've provided nearly no details about the device or ROM or time it takes for FTP to stop working) that may be by design. Note in the FTP server settings the paramater named "Timeout" (Seconds)" for which the default value seems to be 300 (5 minutes). The FTP server will stop after that amount of time. If that is not the issue then you would definitely want to provide more details and possibly a log.
I have no problems with the FTP server.
I'm having trouble running a widget that turns the FTP server on and off. Once the FTP server widget is created, it runs for several minutes. Then it ceases to perform its function of turning on and off the FTP server. After removing the FTP server widget and creating a new FTP server widget, everything repeats again.

I did understand that you were referring to the widget even though my reply was slightly mis-written. Thanks for clarifying further. That is a better description but still lacks details about the device or a log. As @marciozomb13 mentioned, because you are using an uncommon ROM (the details of which are still unknown;)) this could relate to battery management or even the launcher on the device. Try exempting MiX from power savings but apart from that, the best way of helping the dev or others help you would be to share details about the device and capture a log while you create the widget. Details and logs which are SOP for issue reporting may be even more important in a unique situation such as yours.

[EDIT} I see you've already spoken to battery management so disregard that part. All that's left are device details and a log.

{EDIT2] In case you missed this recent post about an issue with another MiX server force closing, which could be related to your issue. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...y-featured-file-manager.1523691/post-85002241

MiXplorer latest version (B20151010), initiating video stream over SAMBA crashes MiXplorer.

Android 10, Samsung A80(SM-A805F), Magisk 22.1, latest busybox module from Magisk repo.

How to reproduce:

1. Open MiXplorer

2. Connect to a SAMBA storage.

3. Open a video file, in "Direct link" mode

4. If the video file is opened with MXPlayer Pro, MiXplorer will crash while MXPlayer Pro loads the file. If the video file is opened with nPlayer instead, the file might load correctly at first but upon seeking within the video, MiXplorer will crash.

FWIW Coincidentally (or not) yesterday I used the log nag video attached to the previous post (and other similar files) to test your video issue but could not reproduce it on Moto stock Android 10 w/magisk playing file from SMB share on Linux ubuntu to VLC player or MiX player on Android (MX player is not allowed on my devices but not on network). That being said, there is an error in your log shortly after each instance of the MP4 stream being identified (for lack of a more accurate technical term).

Please Fix The Sorting Things/Methods...

In /Sdcard Location When I Select Size(Smaller) Please Keep Folders(Name Sorting) Even Though Whatever The Folder Size Is And The Files Inside Every Folder Should Be Sorted By Size(Smaller).I Have To Select That In Every Folder And Every SubFolder And It Keeps Resseting. The Folder Also Getting Sorted By Size Is Annoying...So When I Select Size(Smaller) In Homapage My Folders Should(Name Sorted) And Files Size Sorted Along With Sorting Setting Getting Reset Every Launch..Please Implement This And Fix Reset Problem

I'm a rusty about sorting but that is all the more reason to attempt to explain it so here goes. :) You might be experiencing a known limitation of sort options but also there may be more you can do with the existing settings.

1) Change setting: View > Options > Change view mode globally = disabled*
2) Set your per-folder sort order from the top down. Eg. sort top level folder by a criterion > navigate to subfolder > set subfolder to sort by different criterion and the top level will retain its sort criterion.

*Note: When Change view mode globally is enabled then the sort options will apply to all locations (upon next refresh). When it is disabled the sort is applied from the current folder recursively (down the tree). This is a bit tedious to configure but should prevent it from resetting...as long as global settings is not enabled again.

The following is almost embarrassing to ask;partially because it says more about me, than MiX.

When I go into MiX, I commonly have a very specific task at hand to perform, that I wish to be done right then. As the dev is so prolific at fixing very minor bugs (at least for my basic operations), Its quite common to be asked if I wish toi download the update. So, of course I press yes, and then proceed to forget about it...

From them it may be a day or two since I last went into MiX, and downloaded the latest update, and forgot to install it, so it asks me again if I wish to download the update. So, the auto pilot in me selects yes, again, and as before, go about getting my tasks done, and again, forget to install it. You can guess what happens the next time after this one.

This means I will have multiple downloads of the same update. If possible, it would be nice if the update check, first checks if I have already downloaded the update, and informs me of such, instead of simply offering to download another copy.

And in case I wasnt clear, this would be a VEEEEERY low priority feature request.
I tend to forget also. It would be nice if MiX would offer to install the update after download. Most apps that download their own update APKs tend to do this.

I tried different zoom levels, with no success, as the screen division you tell about moves to the right, as zoom decreases.
I also installed the 6.40 version to see how the display was before as I know this issue is recent, and in fact, previous versions just showed the date without the hour in column mode. So a change was introduced with one of the latest updates that caused this new layout.
Have you tried editing the Custom datetime format in More Settings? You should be able to remove the hour, if nothing else.

Thanks for this info. The sort order being controlled by an option in the View menu is certainly not obvious.

I was just testing and getting erratic results as to whether the sort order was changing for my open tabs when I changed the sort order for one of them. Your 'top down' info mostly explains this, though I had one tab that wasn't being resorted when I think it should have been. I am thinking this may be because I renamed the tab (or the bookmark to the folder), so it isn't recursive, but should be I think.

Using the browser's download manager works seamlessly. It's only when I try to use a 3rd party download manager it force closes (I use 1DM). It sends mutliple requests, so could that be the issue?. It's no big deal and I can live with it, just thought I'd point it out.

Then it might not relate to that other issue. I mentioned it just because it's rare to see two reports of different server types stopping in such a short time period. I could imagine how multiple requests could jam things up in different ways but see no obvious direct connection. Still, worth noting. See what the developer can make of your details and log.

    Hi

When I'm playing video files from within Mixplorer, it plays fine but when I'm playing from other apps or file managers, mixplayer's player app stops playing audio in middle, time elapsed showes zero, seek function is no longer available, video no longer resumes from previous position

Please fix this, I would prefer setting Mixplorer's player as default player for media files

Another issue i encounter is Player sometimes goes blank (black screen) while audio plays in background. This gets fixed by pressing HW or SW buttons BUT, this is suppose to be automatic. Player must detect whether it successfully played both Audio and Video or else, it should automatically switch between HW/SW modes

Does anyone else have issues with using the image viewer, or is it just me?

Whenever I open a pic and zoom in, my devices literally freeze and I have to force restart/pull the battery from the device.

It doesn't matter if it's via network/direct link or pics on the device. Tried to dump a log, but that doesn't work, because the device seems to discard everything due to the full freeze. 😟

FWIW, I'm unable to reproduce this in a few Android/ROM variants (Stock moto 11 unrooted, stock moto 10 rooted, LOS15 rooted) on files local to each device or on Linux SMB share. As to logging; logging a session with MiX built in logging until just before the issue happens might capture something useful. If your circumstances allow for it you could try logging from computer via ADB directly into a file on the computer until the crash. An assessment of native display properties, applied settings and mods (if present) might also be telling.

Oldish is relative but that aside, do you have any constructive suggestions about what could be improved that has not or cannot be done with skins and themes? As for me, I would not switch apps from one that performs better (IMO), to another just because of the paint job.

Also, this reminds me of an old joke which is somewhat apropos. There are 2 barber shops on opposite ends of town, 1 where the barber looks tidy and the shop is clean including the floors, the other where the barber is unkempt and the shop is messy with hair everywhere. Where do you go? You go to the messy shop because that barber is getting their bad haircut at the other (tidy) barbershop and their own shop is messy because it's busy - where people prefer to go. :)

LOL, apart from straying off topic I now await the wrath of offended hairdressers and people with botched haircuts. :D
I'd just say that looking a bit more like other modern looking file explorers (Files by Google, Solid Explorer, Oneplus' file manager,...). I wish I could use some tools, draw something to give ideas, but I don't know how.

Well, while trying MiXplorer, I found bugs I didn't have with Solid Explorer (example: it won't stay connected to my Onedrive account. If I go to another folder and come back, I see my Onedrive folder empty. I have to disconnect and reconnect to see my files... everytime... Not really convenient, right?). And so far, I haven't found anything new that I couldn't do with Solid Explorer.
I'm always trying alternative apps to see if I'm still using what's best but here, I think I'll stick a bit to Solid Explorer for now

I tend to forget also. It would be nice if MiX would offer to install the update after download. Most apps that download their own update APKs tend to do this.

Pardon some OT but as this spins from what occurs after the MiX update is invoked:

In my experience this has been variable across different Android versions AND ROM variants AND Browser used AND default download preferences previously made (in other words it is a mess). Here are 3 scenarios I've seen recently, the first 2 just this morning, while updating MiX.

    - Downloads then immediately shows prompt to install (Moto Stock Android 11 unrooted)
    - Downloads then installation can be invoked from notification (LOS15 rooted).
    - Downloads then installation must be manually run from the downloaded file in a file manager picker accessed via notification (in situations where that works) or by manually browsing to the file.

Issues like this have occurred for quite some time, as those who once had issues with actions invoked from Chrome download notifications might recall.

@HootanParsa When I attach a file to a post I get to something that looks like it might be Mixplorer, but does not come right out and say so.

When inserting an image using Chrome, I get prompted to Choose an action:
    Screenshot_20210513-121946_Android System.jpg
Is the blue one that says "File" Mixplorer? Can you change the name that is displayed? (Maybe "MiX File"?)

Once in the file chooser, the options are limited. If that's you, could you add an "About Mixplorer" to the three-dot menu?

That's a bit more descriptive, and is an aesthetic preference partially (but admittedly not entirely) achievable with skins and themes. FWIW, my impression has been that MiX's "old" looks may be a byproduct of what makes it so skinable and work in such a small resource footprint.

Well, while trying MiXplorer, I found bugs I didn't have with Solid Explorer (example: it won't stay connected to my Onedrive account. In detailed assessments it might be found that MiX has more capability than Solid or most other similar apps but this is not to begrudge your choice. In most of these apps each of us typically uses only a subset of the features so the rest don't really matter. That being said, you seem to have made up your mind and mentioned a possible issue to support that decision without sharing details that establish it as an actual problem. Absent sufficient details and or logs that connection issue could be a configuration issue or an actual bug but with no supporting information neither could reasonably be declared.

To be clear, yes I'm pushing back at the possible tech issue without supporting details but not at your choice, in fact we share some agreement about the appearance in spite of having different tastes in that regard.

Hmm, there seems to be a problem with MiXplorer after I put in a 64GB exFAT SD Card, whenever I launch MiXplorer there is anoter window that overlays ontop of it asking me to "select the folder" ... as if the File Explorer is trying to open MiXPlorer or something weird .... but it doesn't look like it's the default file explorer as it's a different looking GUI, however it is in the localized language and not English like MiXPlorer is. I did not want to click "Select Folder" yet and I keep trying things to figure out what it is doing, I'll remove the SD Card to see if that has any effect.

      Phone is Galaxy A41
      Android 10
      FW is A415FXXU1BUC3
      MiXplorer_v6.54.7-API29_B21041730.apk
I'll keep trying some stuff and then if nothing of that works, trying another version.
The Sandisk SD card came with exFAT fresh, I did not do any modifications to the filesystem. I was happy that Android finally supports exFAT, well it may did for some time, but on another phone it doesn't (probably android 9 or something there, don't remember)
If I'm understanding right, you are reporting system file chooser asking you to authorize the use of the external storage, pretty normal, would be a problem if you not selected the root of the SD card after this, then system will ask for the permission, and again... But is not clear why you are not giving permission, yet want mix to work properly.

A couple of issues I've seen in recent beta versions and I always forget to mention ...

A log is created in Android / data / com.mixplorer.beta / cache / log / even though logging is not enabled in MiX's settings.

Files in Android / data / com.mixplorer.beta / cache / temp / sometimes are not erased.

For instance I just copied two files from a card attached via OTG, 1 GB each. When the operation was done and they were properly copied, one was erased from temp, but the second one was left there, occupying a full extra GB.

Well, DiamondJohn has a point, in that eventually we all have to move on. But no need to go to extremes and kill everything that is not the latest and greatest, I think. Anyway, up to Hootan.

( Says the one who runs unstable nightlies, not even alphas, of most software ... )

Pffffft, I'm 60 years old and would probably not have an issue keeping my OP7 and staying on OOS10 for the rest of my life :D

I'm skipping OOS11 for sure, I even disabled the updater app through TiBu so it can't annoy me. I might consider OOS12, depending on what else Google f*cks up ... or I'll just stay on 10 indefinitely. The only thing missing would be security patches and if you use common sense, don't click on everything that jiggles or meows and don't install apps from shady sites you can still live a long and happy life without those silly patches.

As long as Hootan still supports older Android versions I'll be golden 🤞 :)

I haven't tested how far I can push it, but instead of issuing scan all media/media mounted intent, I have programmatically built a list of files myself, and then explicitly told the media scanner to scan each specific file in my list. It was pretty quick in updating the media db.
The main problem is the media files. If I copy my 250 thousands music, images, videos in my device, then it's going to scan the content of those files to retrieve the metadata. They have done a great job in the recent versions of Android by improving the media retriever performance. It can extract the metadata from almost 8 files for 1 second, in my fastest device. It is incredibly fast but I have to wait many hours for scanner to finish the job to just get the basic info about my files. What if I rename one of my root folders during that time? All again. It's a joke. The whole design and the way it is working and updating is bad and even dangerous. In some cases it's possible you even lose many of your files during updating the media db. There are many problems which I'm lazy to explain. They could scan the whole files only for the basic info, in one thread, for a very short time and then whatever they need to do in different threads later. They could make it very fast, smart, efficient and useful but they didn't.
What I wrote is based on my testings and experience on my Android devices. Maybe I'm wrong!

Ok, but remember to put it back, for security reasons ...
      Hmm...didn't know about that.

I had set Mount Namespace Mode to Global, but what should it be set back to? What was the default setting?

      The options in Magisk are:
      • Global Namespace
      • Inherit Namespace
      • Isolated Namespace
I use root explicitly to reduce the security of android by enabling super user functionality.

When I grant root to specific apps, I make the decision then & there if I trust the app. So, extending that, I trust all my root apps with Global. Remember, this only came around in A11, so A10 and earlier all operated this way by default, and no-one (well, not the die hard root fans;)) mentioned their concern, or avoided/hesitated rooting their device pre A11 at all.

If you are truly concerned about security, you would similarly be turning off root on each app after using it, or disable root completely. By choosing to root your devoce, you have already made the biggest security lowering decision.
