Hi,

I'm trying to use the SMB Server with an exFat Drive on my Fire TV Cube.

FTP is working flawlessly but when I try to use the exact same path as SMB working dir it I can't get it to work

i tried this drivepath:

usb://ultra-usb-exfat.1

as well as

usb://ultra-usb-exfat.1/Android/data/com.mixplorer.silver

the IP is 127.0.0.1 (to share the drive only with the Fire TV Cube). I tried different apps (Kodi, Xplore) to access the SMB share but none works.

The version of Mixplorer is 6.58.4

Over FTP I can create/delete/read/transfer files. With SMB I can't even see any file/folder (from the USB drive). When connecting I get redirected to the /storage/emulated/0/ folder

The log is showing nothing special

Does anyone have an Idea?

Hi,
I'm trying to connect it to Dropbox, but it continue to submit the dice captcha, even if I solve it and it says that's correct and that I can go on... I've tried more times and always the same.
Someone knows if there is issues or am I doing something not correct?

I am a software guy, not a network guy, so I don't know what I am talking about ;) , however, the IP address 127.0.0.1 is reserved in networking for meaning "this device". So, by asking for a share on 127.0.0.1, android would default to your device and not another device on the network. The network packets wont leave your device and therefore will not find the share on another device. I know my router (with drive shares) is identified by 192.168.1.1

I think you did not understand what I am asking for. I mean the setting within MiXplorer. I am able to access a SMB share from other devices and from my cube, but it's empty.

127.0.0.1 means that I can only access the address from my device I'm on. In this case on my Fire TV Cube. So when I try to access the SMB Share from my Fire TV Cube it should work (which it doesn't). Every other device within the network wouldn't be able to access it. So this means it's not a network problem. It's a software problem

So. you are running MiX ON the device the share is on?

Yes, but this was just a test to proof if it's a network issue - and it is not. So it has to be a problem of mixplorer.

If it's not working on the same device and it's not working over the network it has to a mixplorer problem.

Especially if I use the exact same IP (localhost as well as my home network) and drive path's (within mixplorer) and set up a FTP server the setup is working.

I gave it a second rating, over the IP (but it did bug me), but is there a reason you are using "USB" instead of "SMB"? as suggested by @kk131

Samsung Galaxy Tab A series
i want to transfer files that 2 devices connected to different network
Still not clear.
How "different network"?
If you mean one device on a network like wi-fi, other device on different network like different ISP, different house: you run server on one device, you go to extra trouble to learn that device's *external* IP address -- address starting with "192.168." is *internal*, cannot be used from another network.

Visit a web site like https://whatismyipaddress.com/. That is the address that the "other" device needs to use in the client corresponding to the type of server you chose.

If you have both devices in your hands, it is probably easier to connect each device to a PC long enough to copy a few files.

Please say if you are really dealing with devices in different locations.

I noticed that Mixplorer has the option to create an archive for each file when multiple files are selected but how can I automate this action with scheduled tasks? (there is no such option there)

I would like to synchronize some folders with a cloud but saving space by compressing before transferring each file while keeping the directory structure (so not a single compressed .ZIP file but simply instead of each moved/copied file the corresponding .ZIP archive).

I also could not find any Android app with the option to compress before storing on cloud which seems a waste to me.

This is NOT how I access the SMB share!

It's the device / drive path of the usb drive on my cube in the mixplorer smb1 server settings! I'm not able to set this path on my own. Mixplorer or the OTG drive is providing me this path.

I do only mount this path to the smb1 server working directory (within the smb1 server settings in mixplorer).

The smb share / path (smb://ipaddress) will be create afterwards!

Now you are really losing me. Yopu are talkiing SMB but are accessing USB. They are not interchangeable.

127.0.0..1 is a NETWORK address. which maps to "this devices" NETWORK interface. "usb://" maps to a PHYSICAL usb object connected to this device. 127.0.0.1 does not equal this device, its the device as an "entity" on the network. To access a USB device via the network, you need to share the usb device to the network. Then you could access the device over SMB using the 127.0.0.1 address and the share. i am pretty certain that you cant tell it to directly access a device hosted on a network device, through the network. Its private to the device and because of security, should be only available if the device has publicly shared the device, and only via the share.

So if it was me, and as I have stated before, I am not a network specialist, I would share the USB device, and then access it via the smb://127.0.0.1/sharename address.

I am able to use the EXACT same working directory for the FTP server and it works. BUT when I start this SMB1 server I can not see my files. Not with smb://127.0.0.1/ on my cube not with smb://ipadress in my network.

A SMB share is VISIBLE all the time, BUT it is empty. In fact there files and folders on this drive so its NOT empty. So do not tell me that THIS is a network problem. I can see that there is an SMB share. I do not get any errors. I use the correct password.

I hope I got you again ;-)

Seems developer is gone for a while but I have a feature request if he reads these old posts after coming back. It would be a good idea if "Send to" option would work with webdav/http. It only works with ftp right now. http has always worked more reliably and faster for me than ftp ever has.

i never said it was a "network problem". I am saying its an access / security problem, of using a network. There is a huge difference.

The fact you can access it via FTP is completely irrelevant. FTP logs onto your server, and then accesses your storage as if you are on your server. Whereas 127.0.0.1 goes through the network interface, and hence is subject to the security set by your network interface. For example, you cant access my PC's USB devices over the internet, just by knowing my IP address and device name. I HAVE to share it with you (and also open my firewall). Thats how network storage works. [protocol]://[server]/[SHARE_NAME]. I often access my network storage using ftp://[user]:[pwd]@[server]/[share_name from within windows explorer. I cannot directly access ALL storage on the server, only the ones that are shared.

PS: please use thumbnails in the future.

I wouldn't say that it's completely irrelevant. This means that mounting, reading and writing of the USB drive in general is working.

Whats also working is setting the SMB1 server working dir to /storage/emulated/0. Then the share is not empty. So the SMB1 server is working properly.

Whats not working is using an usb drive as working dir.

Can we use regex in autotasks?
    Example use case:
move all example-* files to the folder example. (with many instances of example)

Yes I believe you can do that at least to some extent. If you check the Nuggets OP in the FAQ you can find a link to another post with various examples regex syntax and links to other resources about regex.

Hope HootanParsa get on with it. Last post from him on Feb 2022. Otherwise, we need an alternative that works reliably with Android 12 and Android 13 is also just around the corner.
MiX works fine on A12, did for me at least on Pixel 6.

And if you check past post history you'll see that Hootan always leaves for months on end, but always comes back and releases updates like nothing else exists.

I also cannot reply to the mod who erased it in private instead of posting this, because they've done it anonymously, not even a name. Really ? Has it come to this ? Not even decent manners ?
That's not the usual behaviour of the moderator who acted to your post but also to others in the contact. I know the moderator normally always provides his name in his notification alerts but I hope you can accept that this occasionally - and unintentionally - happens "in the middle of a battle". Not as an excuse but as an explanation: You certainly know the number of moderators and we're all humans. It's sometimes a real hurry to keep this site with its 3.5+M threads and 78+M posts clean.
I apologise for the inconvenience, and I'm going to make my team mate aware. I'm convinced he's going to contact you privately and is happy to explain his action. Please be aware this might not happen immediately as our team is spread above many timezones, and I don't know if it's bedtime over there already.

Just a brief personal remark: It's not really required to post such - rightful - complains publicly. Consider to just approach any moderator of your desire and faith privately. I ensure you it will be handled.

happened to me after i reported a series of posts on an OT matter. the good mod was able to charm me and calm me. :D (y)
I'm sure it was an amazing, very charming but also very good looking mod! 🤪 Sorry for the OT ^_^

Big fan of MiX over here! Been using it for many years. Major kudos to @HootanParsa & @IronTechmonkey 🤗

Maybe you could go and fix the horrible search first? Would make life here a lot easier....
I'm fully aware that you cannot see why my esteemed teammate @TNSMANI had cleaned the thread but I can assure you that first it was absolutely necessary and second it had nothing to do with anybody being unable to search.
I'm using the XDA search daily. No issues to report from my side but even if I had it'd be off-topic in the great MiXplorer development thread.

If you have problems or issues consider to follow the links that @sd_shadow has provided in his "[Index] XDA 2021: How to Navigate the New Site Layout":
If you have Bug Reports, Requests, or require more help,Please post in the Welcome to XDA 2021! thread or in How can we make the XDA forums better? Thread.

Have you tried searching in the App recently? I doubt it, or else you wouldn't say "no issues". You're better off finding what you are looking for by searchig on Google with site: than here. Back to topic.
I apologise but by the information you provided I didn't relate your complain to the use of the app. Personally, I'm not using the app at all for various reasons related to the moderation of this website.
