I wouldn't say that it's completely irrelevant. This means that mounting, reading and writing of the USB drive in general is working.

Whats also working is setting the SMB1 server working dir to /storage/emulated/0. Then the share is not empty. So the SMB1 server is working properly.

Whats not working is using an usb drive as working dir.
Its smb://[server]/[share]. SHARE the location, and then you can access it using SMB and even via 127.0.0.1 or whatever. I personally have found that you have not clearly explained exactly what you are trying to achieve as your end goal amongst the confusion of your claims.

As for FTP being relevant, you missed the point and its simply argumentative. SMB & FTP are two different protocols, so their parameters/config can be expected to be different; hence I said it was irrelevant. I tried to help. I'm out, hopefully someone else will take their time to help you.

Thats my actual physical USB drive:

View attachment 5644181

and this are my SMB1 server settings:

View attachment 5644183

I am able to use the EXACT same working directory for the FTP server and it works. BUT when I start this SMB1 server I can not see my files. Not with smb://127.0.0.1/ on my cube not with smb://ipadress in my network.

A SMB share is VISIBLE all the time, BUT it is empty. In fact there files and folders on this drive so its NOT empty. So do not tell me that THIS is a network problem. I can see that there is an SMB share. I do not get any errors. I use the correct password.

I hope I got you again ;-)
What happens if you change the working directory of the SMB server to be one of the top level directories on the USB drive?

usb://ulta-usb-exfat.1 already is the toplevel directory so this does not work either.

I tried out a FAT32 and a NTFS drive. FAT32 and the SMB server is working NTFS is not.

So it seems to be the combination of the SMB server with the build in OTG driver of mixplorer

Have you tried toggling the Mixplorer setting mentioning Mixplorer's OTG drive support?

Whichever way you have it set, try the other way. Reboot, clear cache, test. Then do it again (toggle, test). There have been some posts, sometimes Mixplorer's built-in support is an improvement, sometimes it gets in the way.

Is the drive with "exfat" in its name formatted as NTFS?

I tried toggling the OTG drive option, cleared up the cache and even reinstalled the app - but nothing. It's maybe not possible to use fully on the fire tv cube.

the drive with exfat in its name is formatted as exFAT. When connecting a NTFS formatted drive the exfat part in the name get switched with ntfs

Can we use regex in autotasks?
Example use case:
move all example-* files to the folder example. (with many instances of example)

Yes I believe you can do that at least to some extent. If you check the Nuggets OP in the FAQ you can find a link to another post with various examples regex syntax and links to other resources about regex.

Can you please check my newest comment. I'm trying to sort files by moving them to correspondent folders, but I'm not sure if such thing is supported in MiX.

An example of a regular expression has nothing to do with whether Mixplorer allows a regular expression where you want to use one.

I remember, in bulk renaming, a dialog box with an option to use regular expressions. Have you found a similar checkbox where you are trying to do a bulk move?

That was just to give example of what I need it for.
It would be something like this:
Move
From: /storage/emulated/Download/([a-z.]+)([0-9-]+)(\.pdf)
To: /storage/emulated/Download/$1

What you've got assembled so far goes further than my knowledge about regex. All I can suggest is to check the examples in the FAQ and the linked material and listen to others who have chimed in who know more than i.

I do not know what you are doing.

If I select a flock of files in a single tab, the menu has items "Rename" and "Move". As I said, "Rename" has a checkbox for "Regex". "Move" doesn't seem to allow anything other than picking a target folder.

I think you would be better off running a script from a command prompt in a terminal emulator. My tablet came with a toybox which includes an "awk". "awk" handles regular expressions, and can be used to eat a list of filenames and generate a flock of "mv" commands. You will also need to create any directories separately -- "mv" does not create intermediate directories, it just changes the "name" (and possibly location) of the one file specified as "source".

In Mixplorer -> Settings -> Components, do you have an item "Document Provider"? Is it checked?
Yep (as well as the other 15 items in that list).

I know that Titanium Backup on that device also uses Document Provider (to back up to the external SD card), so I don't believe that the problem exists within the Document Provider functionality itself.

    Also, @n.p.

Curious about document providers on older devices I found an Android 7 device (LOS 14.1 rooted). It does have a "document provider" item in the list of storage options, which supports your idea that the component might be disabled. There is not much I can do with this device but if any comparisons might help I can check it out.

I have two Android 6 devices (on which I do not have the same problem). Both of those (also) have Document Provider enabled in Components, but (also) neither of those have Document Provider available in the storage options.

True that, IIRC titanium backup was my first introduction to the document provider, and to your point the document provider functionality may not be the core issue. That being said it's odd that the option is not available on that android 7device and that could be co-symptom of or a pointer to the real problem. Document provider has definitely been around since android 7 but some ROMs especially custom ROMs are pushed into newer android versions while still holding onto some of the attributes of an older version. I don't know if that could explain the missing document provider option on that android 7device, but it would not surprise me if the solution or explanation covered both the issue you described and the missing document provider option.

With external drive disconnected, do you have a Mixplorer bookmark? Delete it.
Find Mixplorer setting "use special internal driver for USB OTG". Toggle it.
Reboot. Connect external drive. Report whether it behaves differently.

    Thank you for your reply
I followed your suggestion and same behavior persists.

MiX explorer was installed in the adopted storage, I uninstalled it, removed the USB drive and tried to install MiX explorer in the local storage, (16gb), however, the system took me to uninstall other applications, as it there was not enough space, there is more than 8gb free. I am only using 3.8gb.
Is there a way to install MiX explorer in the main drive?
    Thank you for your help

Adoptable storage (AKA Format As Internal) where the OS uses external SD as part of "internal" storage is known for being problematic, not necessarily with MiX but in general, and when managing drives.

If you are using adopted storage ... is there any way you could test without using that, for instance with a different SD card that is not formatted as internal?

Disclaimer: if you decide to test this use caution and proceed at your own risk, making sure everything is backed up. This is one of the dilemmas about adoptable storage - removing your SD card to test another one could disrupt the system.

I think you've created a monster. I don't think "adopted storage" is freely removable -- you have told the system to "adopt" this drive and make it part of itself. The process of "adopting" may have indicated your desire to put everything possible on this "adopted" drive. The drive gets formatted to something pleasing to Android. If there's encryption on the system, I'm sure it will extend to the adopted drive.

Just how many applications do you have installed on this TV?

I don't know an easy way out of this mess. Have you tried Googling "remove adopted storage"?

If you can bring yourself to start over, maybe you don't really need to install applications to the external drive. Maybe it will be enough to get the data hogs to put their data on the external drive. Not "adopted storage", just use an external drive. Again, how many applications are involved? Do you really have a number of applications, each of which produces a great deal of data? Or do you just collect a lot of media files and need to put them on the external storage because there isn't room on internal storage? I'm pretty sure that can be handled without "adopting", and then your removable drive would still be removable.

Like BSPlayer, developer can simply add an option to choose swipe action. In BSPlayer, you can set swipe left/right to many actions, such as Seek/Jump/Next in Playlist etc.. For thousands of short videos, switch videos will make sense. Just like what TikTok or Youtube Shorts do. I agree that It will not make sense for a 3 hours movie, but there are different use cases.

Yeah, you are right. and I always enable auto-play option in SImple Gallery. It's just like TikTok or Youtube Shorts experience. I have thousands of or millions of short videos. I don't want to press "Play" everytime when I swipe them in a very fast manner.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

One more question regarding video thumbnails over samba/sftp connections.
I have different devices. Some devices can show video thumbnails over samba/sftp successfully. But some do NOT. (The same apk. The same default options.)
I am wondering what will cause the video thumbnails not shown and how to fix it?

    Thanks a lot.

I am using the same video files for testing. Everything are the same except the device. Apk installer file is the same. SFTP and Samba servers are the same servers. Network is the same network (in the same LAN). Video files are the same video files. MiXplorer options are the same default options (after fresh install).

    Dear Sir/Madam,

Why is Video (content://mx/video) implementation behavior completely different from Image (content://mx/image) ?

In Image, it's the normal correct behavior to me. It's the same as other gallery apps. It shows folders and then you can tap to open the folder to see all photos inside the folder. It also takes care of .nomedia file. If a folder contains .nomedia file, it will not show that folder.

But in Video, it's a completely different story. It just show all the videos from the device. That's all. No folders. .nomedia files are ignored. I tried to look for some options to change this behavior, but no luck.

Can I make the Video show folders just like what the Image does? Especially, it should honour the .nomedia file.

    Thanks a lot.
It sounds to me that you want a media player. MiXplorer is a file manager. Everything you have requested is available in almost every media player. This app is for managing files on device. Image viewer, video player, music player, etc are add ons and are not media players. Now I'm not saying that your requests may not be implemented but you can just use mx player or Nova player or most media players to do what you are requesting. To me it just seems like you need a media player.

@HootanParsa Issue in 6.56-5 Silver: File date will be changed, when uploading to Nextcloud/ownCloud

When copying/moving files to Nextcloud or ownCloud, the file date of last change will be lost and replaced with current date.
Of course the option to keep the date is enabled.

Using other apps for this action, the file date is kept correctly. So it seems to work generally - unfortunately not working with MiXplorer.

I'm using Samsung devices (Android 11). Possible to fix? Thanks!

FYI: Meanwhile the dev sent me a new test version 6.58.5-TEST-Silver, the issue is fixed in that version.

Now uploads via WebDAV are keeping the original file date. 👍🏻

Since this one is not explained in the FAQ and also not the most intuitive especially when using the default skin I'll fill in the gaps, but it's nice to see an assertive answer in response to an assertive demand. :D

Support dark mode and light mode syncing with OS theme setting

FYI when asking for something, it wont hurt to first confirm if what you want is possible and then if it's not possible request it in the form of a question.

In this case night mode might do what you want. I'm not sure if the default skin uses night mode but if you want access to the setting you can make a copy of the default skin like so:

Settings > Skins > Add > New > Save > enter name and author > OK.

Then to access the night mode setting:

... > Skins > Edit newly created skin (pencil) > toggle night mode.

It may be possible to do this with one of the built-in alternative skins then switch back to the default but I did it through a copy of the default skin.
Note: as I quickly changed settings and skins there were odd results but I could always get back to a custom skin or the default skin.
Disclaimer: it's possible there is a better way to do this. There are those around who might know for sure.
