I'll expand on what @Nimueh has said and advise everyone to watch what they're installing, Only install apps from the Play Store or F-Droid where possible, and author provided sources (but treat those with extra scrutiny).

Good advice all around but I would suggest putting the recommendations of the original developer (in this case, HootanParsa) ahead of Playstore and F-droid. In some cases that may be functionally the same thing since a developer may refer people to Play Store or F-Droid as primary sources... but then may also make the app available through XDA (or other sources) as HP has done with MiX (exclusively so with beta versions IIRC) . After all, MiX can be installed from XDA and updated internally without Playstore or F-droid. That being said, I'm still a big +1 to your best practice advice, and to that point, even MiX as installed from XDA should be vetted.

No idea where you would report that though? There are probably 100s of repos out there, so if you report it to 1 the others will still carry it.

I can't understand why anybody would flash something like that when there's absolutely no need to 🤷‍♀️

Edit: I did just report it to Androidacy which will report it to Fox Module Manager as well, so maybe we'll get it removed from those 2 at least 🤞

Edit 2: Androidacy doesn't have that sketchy module, so it has to be on another repo. The Fox app uses Androidacy + 1 more repo which must be where the sketchy module comes from. That module also "disables documentsui and removes default files app, and bundles a bunch of prebuilts and most commits are just -add files via upload-", which is fishy to say the least ... chances are he modified the apps too.

Official report? Pshaw, I'm talking about starting trouble. :D Well not really but, I may have found the git page for that mod (or another one just like it) which I wont share here, but I see a way to push back on it as a user posting about the contradictions in the description and about the nature of issues reported, none of which occur in a recommended installation. The dev does give MiX credit at the top of the page but does not heed original developer's (HP's) recommended method of acquisition and installation.

That's the weird MiXplorer module that was neither sanctioned by Hootan nor is it needed or useful. No idea why anybody would "flash" a file manager like that? Who knows what kind of additions the author of that module made, or which data he now has access to, but it's, in 1 word, fishy!

I suggest you remove that module asap and install a PROPER version of MiXplorer, either the XDA version from the 1st post or the paid Silver one from the Playstore to support the dev.

Ok dont angry me guys, i generally use es file explorer but just wish to try when i see in the modules list. First time of seing mixplorer.

In addition to doing what @Nimueh suggested regarding having a functional version of MiXplorer MiX you should get into the habit of reviewing available supporting material (dev and FAQ thread OPs) which in this case would have indicated appropriate methods to get and install MiX.

Thanks. Grrrr. I've got to learn to stop covering as much ground as possible in a reply when the request states no version # and source. As to a possible response to the unauthorized version, I have a question for you and other MiX folk:

Would it be of any benefit to report to the source of that bad Magisk version of MiX that it does not work, or even better - if there is a public forum/thread for that bad version might it help to post in that thread that the item does not work properly?

No idea where you would report that though? There are probably 100s of repos out there, so if you report it to 1 the others will still carry it.

Because MiXplorer has been a reliable, great file manager for many years now, and somebody using that good name to create a totally useless module that even modifies your system can only be bad for the REAL MiXplorer!
People like you use that shady module, things don't work as expected and they/you come HERE to get help. Then users that only read bits of a topic/thread may think the real MiXplorer is what's causing issues and they won't use it any more.

And besides - do YOU know what changes the creator of that module made to the app? Do you KNOW that it doesn't do anything malicious?

Read the previous replies, get rid of the module and only use apps from legit sources!

Ninja!

@cantalat05, ninja just means that I'm giving credit to @Nimueh for providing an answer before I could. As to MiX sources...

No one is criticizing you for having tried the Magisk module or for not knowing why it is bad. It is also not a bad thing that you mentioned it because that informs that it is still circulating and that maybe something should be done about it. Thank you for the details. If you install MiX from an appropriate source you won't have that network trouble or other troubles caused by that module and you'll be able to get help from other mix users and the developer.

Among the reasons why that module is bad are the following.

- MiXplorer is a powerful utility which already would give us a reason to assess security of our device even though we trust the developer. Installing it as a Magisk module with other things included by a different developer significantly undermines that security.

- The way that module is bundled with other things and installed seems to cause serious issues such as boot loops which should never occur when merely installing MiX. The network issue you reported is not the first serious issue which people have reported here that is not actually a MiXplorer issue but an issue with that module

- As is occasionally discussed in this thread, the operating system has many dependencies on the native file manager beyond our interaction with files and it is rarely recommended to disable the native file manager as that module does.

@Nimueh and @IronTechmonkey you both like a lawyer guys.
Take care, have a nice day. nice to meet you. 👏👏👍
Since there has been no information about why someone turned Mixplorer into a Magisk module, you should consider wiping your device.

A well-behaved Magisk module will disappear once it has been disabled or uninstalled. A malicious Magisk module could have made changes that will not disappear. I'm not sure wipe data / factory reset will be enough. Maybe you need to reinstall the ROM.

I do not know that this module is malicious. I believe it has the potential to have been as damaging as any malware could ever be -- you invited it to run in a very privileged environment.

I try to move one folder content (it has 4800 jpg file) to another folder (it has 12.000 jpg file) most of other file managers or gallery apps freezes, even default system file managers freezes but MiXplorer is perfectly works and moves all the files.

Those are healthy things to wonder about because we do have to make individual decisions about what to trust but you may underestimate the potential damage that could be caused to your life or someone else's in the event of some types of security breaches. You don't have to believe that in order to remain secure but this is not because there is no concern, this is because other people take such concerns seriously.

Additionally, in this case we are talking about someone who is essentially pirating a product and re-releasing it in damaged and less secure (understatement) form which is bad for the original product's reputation. I happen to think it is just someone experimenting with coding and tech and that they may not intend no harm but still I would never install it on my devices considering the potential risk to me (for no gain), and the bad effect it has on MiX's rep.

In any event, we are getting off topic so , now that you've got MiX running on your device, enjoy exploring it and don't hesitate to report issues in this thread or to ask usage questions in the FAQ. Also, if you are just starting with MiX, the OPs of the FAQ describe many basic things.

Firstly, thank you.

I'm not justifying.
I don't know where you live (I live in Turkey), but regardless of the place where you live globally, I think cinema and politicians do not hesitate to constantly pump fear or anxiety into their citizens.

On the other hand, I would like to give an example (I apologize for going off topic); In the past years, my father is a teacher (ie civil servant - civil servant) and all the money in his salary account was stolen from the public bank where my father was paid. Unauthorized EFT made.

We trusted the state here, it didn't.
We trusted the internet service provider, the confirmation sms went to the hacker.
We trusted the bank, sms systems were hacked.

Therefore, on the one hand, it is impossible for us to trust even legal and official legal entities, and they cannot provide trust anyway.

I don't trust knox.
I don't trust iOS either.
After all, after I didn't trust any of them, after I didn't have millions or any inhuman behavior, even if I was scandalous, after thinking that people's opinions would only concern them, I think worrying is more harmful to our health psychologically than my money being defrauded or being exposed.

If I was to worry like that, I shouldn't be using anything digital anyway, I should try communicating with smoke or pigeons or something. If I didn't trust anything, would I trust the pigeon? 😂😂😂

I hope I was able to explain clearly.

Take care of yourself guys.

I have seen it has been briefly discussed here in regards to Android 13 and the "data" & "obb" folder not accessible with MiXplorer.
MishaalRahman have posted a workaround on accessing protected /Android directories in the internal storage which promptly made me come here to share the link:
MiXplorer is already seem to launch SAF (Storage Access Framework) request directly for these directories. For those on A13, you might want to clear MiXplorer data (export settings first!) and try to access "/Android/data" to trigger the SAF request again. Note i am not on Android 13 and is just trying to share the news. Share your experience by replying in this thread!

Hello guys.
I've noticed that some apps doesn't show at the 'open with/open ass' option.

For exemple.
I used to open .cbr and .cbz files with ComicRack or CDisplayEx, but on Mixplorer ComicRack, and most of parallelapps, doesn't show at any option making impossible to open files on ComickRack by Mixplorer.

Another exemple:
To edit .srt files (subtiles), I use the app Easy Subtitles, but this app is the only one that shows at 'open with/open as' option, and still if I select the app to open an .srt file it gives me the error 'file could not be found'.
No other srt editor app appears at the menu as an option to use, but other apps that has nothing to do with .srt files does.

The issue occurs on both Mixplorer and M.silver, but doesn't occur on Es file explorer.

Doesn't anyone knows why it happens?

Did Mixplorer ever offer these other programs? Did the Open ever succeed?

Have you suddenly started using Mixplorer to access files on a network drive, or cloud storage site?

I have to admit I haven't followed nor really read you above post:whistle: . But, when It comes to opening files with from MiX, have you clicked the "Open As" button? That should show all apps that have registered as being able to propcess your file types, and if they are not there, then *maybe* thats where the fault lies.

Thank you. I use S7Edge (Lineage OS 19.1) and all other file managers can not access thats folders bur MiXplorer (just checked when i saw your reply) and it asked me for permission for all sub folders sequentially, i approved all then voila. Accessed all data and obb folders recursively with no problem.

have a nice day.

While I don't want to undermine the importance of privacy issues, which are indisputably overlooked, they do go a bit beyond the scope of this thread. I realize that there are over 2000 pages worth of discussion now, and not everything will be razor-sharp to-the-point, but for the sake of keeping things as clean as can be reasonably expected, the time is now to wrap up that aspect of the discussion. Alternatively, you are more than welcome to continue it in a new thread to your hearts' content.

    Hello and good afternoon, @MPK99

This is a development thread, and actually open-sourcing of MiXplorer has already been discussed here. The developer has chosen not to open source his project, and @HootanParsa doesn't owe anybody of us an explanation or justification for his decision. Nobody forces you to use MiXplorer or any other close source application or development.
You've meanwhile hijacked this thread with multiple posts that have nothing to do with development. If you had at least posted in the Q&A thread to question the close source condition.

Less than 24 hours ago, my esteemed teammate @Bill720 requested very politely, maybe too politely, that this thread should stay on topic but obviously his message didn't receive everybody yet. For this reason again and probably more clearly: @MPK99, please immediately refrain from your off-topic posts in this thread. And @Thebear j koss and all others, do not respond to such post as you're just triggering that this development threads deviates from its original purposes.

Please read my message now as a friendly warning, and if you have a question regarding this announcement do not reply to this post but contact me (or any other moderator of your desire and trust by PM addressing your concerns. Prior to such a contact, it might be useful to review the XDA Forum Rules.

Thanks very much for listening, your understandig and your cooperation.

Okay. I was the one who started this topic btw. Not gonna ask about it again.
I've learned that it's pointless to discuss about code rather than the application usage itself.

Also, a last note for everyone (whoever ask about source code in the future)...
Don't discuss about it, if you don't wanna be targetted by forum moderators. Use xda's search engine to read whoever asked before (even if you don't find the answer).
@Oswald Boelcke Thank you for the kind warning. Will refrain from this topic/thread.
I didn't targetted you and never will. All my actions are based on the rules of this private website, to which you agreed to adhere when you registered five years ago.
And I'm not wondering that you didn't listen to @Bill720 as you also didn't listen to me when I politely asked you not to reply to my post but to contact me privately if required.
However, I leave your above post in this thread as you might have been forced to post for reasons I just can assume. However, any further violation of the rules (and we call failure to follow moderator instructions disrespect) might lead to other consequences. I'm convinced other users of XDA and visitors of this thread can set your PSA into the right context.

    Regards
    Oswald Boelcke

And are you that important that you feel that someone who creates an app that has millions of users is adding in nefarious code to steal your data? Nobody cares how much porn you watch. And apktool will most definitely show if there is anything in the code that affects your data. It isn't just for modding and cracking apps. It is a tool provided by Google in Android studio.

I would care less if someone knew I'm watching porn. It's the registered online cloud storage keys that users access through the app, is what's most important. And yep. The chance of stealing is greater, as the project code is hidden (not saying that hootan does, but there's a chance, as the app has the Internet access).
    ...

While I don't want to undermine the importance of privacy issues, which are indisputably overlooked, they do go a bit beyond the scope of this thread. Hi, is it possible to access "Android/data/.." with MiXplorer in Android 13?

Sorry, didn't find it in thread.

It's surprising that you could not find pertinent suggestions considering that this topic comprises the majority of recent discussion and is covered in the FAQ OPs, as well as in a recent FAQ post (nugget) which consolidates most of the suggestions and can be found by searching for "Android13" or "OTG" or "document provider" or merely reviewing the last page of the FAQ to find the linked post below.

See "Manually add document providers:" here (or as linked from the OPs): https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mixplorer-q-a-and-faq-user-manual.3308582/post-87626419. if the steps in that section don't work then go through the whole workflow of that post, and share troubleshooting details here.

Hi. Is it possible to disable generation of the thumbnail cache globally? I noticed that my folder data/com.mixplorer.silver/cache/thumbs had over 2 GB, and there were some old photos miniatures, and some bigger files. Is it possible to prevent mixplorer to keep this cache? From what I understood I could create file .nothumbs (or something like this), but that would only work for 1 folder.
Under View - Options you can disable "Cache Thumbnails".
