I wish I could do it, but it doesn't work. When going to Android/ data folder, it just redirects to built in OS file manager...
There are many saved files by telegram and other apps in those folders that aren't accessible through MiXplorer which is a problem for many android users.

Are you sure that is the native OS file manager, or is it an interface which looks like the native file manager but allows you to select a particular folder as a document provider? In either case depending on your android version and ROM variant you might be able to manually add a document provider. This has worked on my rooted and non-rooted android 11 devices and IIRC the developer recently made a change which should make it work for android 12 as well. If you share the details about your device it may turn out that you can do this.

Which version of mixplorer are you using? On my pixel 4a running android 13,both mixplorer silver and the latest beta from the first post can access those folders(have to grant access for each folder the first time you try to open) latest versions are 6.58.X,
If you are on the latest versions and still cant access android/data I would post a log

Does anyone know why in the latest versions of MiXplorer I can't delete files from any of the root path. It is working for older version of MiXplorer (like 6.54.x)

I am rooted and on Marshmallow. Also provided root access to MiXplorer in Magisk.

Might be the same phenomena I see on MiX (across 3 devices and Android/OOS versions, all with MiX Silver) quite often when trying to Move a file from any PC folder to my device. I'm rooted and MiX has "Allow root" checked, but sometimes it just seems to "forget" that and refuses to move the file. I get a toast saying "failed, no file moved" and it only copies the file but leaves the original.

Then I have to uncheck "Allow root", exit MiX + clear it from Recents, start it again and select "allow root" - after that I can move the same file without issues.

Seems like sometimes MiX is having an "Alzheimer moment" or something, where it simply forgets that it does indeed have root :D

Maybe just try unchecking root, restarting MiX and checking it again? Can't hurt to try :)

Yikes, the the only time I've had to work around things by toggling root status for an app was when a particular app was making many rapid root requests on a device with low RAM but if that were the case on your devices you would notice due to other issues with root manager or just by seeing many root authorization toasts. The underlying symptoms are evocative of issues with the cache space which mix might use when moving files (which could be compounded across a network connection as in your case). The range across devices and time in which you've experienced this may preclude the following suggestion and you may have tried it already but, manually adding document providers for /android/data (and /android/obb and /android/media) on both internal and external SD might be worth a try (or it could amount to having practiced tapping and swiping the screen idly to no effect).

@katefrench, A log and some captured while you reproduce the issue, and some details about the device might be informative.

The MiXplorer latest beta (6.58.5 B22090510) fixed this issue IIRC...at least for me (Pixel 4XL stock A13 - Non Root)

If you running the MiXplorer latest beta...I would suggest you to do this (If you haven't did yet)...
  1. Long press the MiXplorer and tap info (i)
  2. Tap the "Storage and cache"
  3. Tap the "Clear access" ( ref: ss1)
  4. Close (clear recent) and relaunch MiXplorer
  5. Internal storage --> Android --> Data --> choose which dir/folder (app)
  6. Once you tap dir/folder (ie: telegram)...it will redirect to OS file manager and choose "Use This Folder" = this will allow MiXplorer to "grant access" to this folder
  7. Repeat this process (no.6) to other folder/dir in "Android/Data" if you want to have access to other folder/dir
HTH...

It doesn't really happen often enough that I'd have bothered diving into it ... oddly enough, today MiX moved files without issues even though I haven't done that for at least a week and it usually feels like it only forgets root when I haven't moved anything for a while.

I'm not even sure what root has to do with network actions ... shouldn't my Windows PC and the permissions I gave for shared folders be the one that determines if a device can cut or delete files on it?

Either way - I'll bookmark your idea and will revisit it if needed. I only mentioned my glitch to point out that maybe unticking/restarting MiX/reticking "might" solve the other user's issue :)

True, Windows would be the arbiter of permissions on the PC but I was wondering about any cache spaces MiX might be using. Also I can't make that suggestion sound logical from beginning to end but many times when I attempt some file operations, particularly in a new installation of mix, I'm prompted for document provider access to those particular locations. In any event the "reset root" workaround was worth a FAQ nugget as was @storm119 description of resetting a few things and adding document provider for A13.

Hi

Is it possible to swap these two panels in places?

One will be like a toolbar and the other one will be like statusbar with information

View attachment 5721711

Nice mock-up. AFAIK, not really, in fact the settings I'm aware of do the opposite and pull more UI elements to the bottom in portrait.

Settings > More settings > Bottom bar

Settings > More settings > split action bar.

Take a look at what those settings do for comparison keeping in mind they don't necessarily do what you want but could help form a feature request. Note: in landscape with dual panel mode there might be different effects to the same settings. Also could you clarify whether the upward arrow in your picture is pointing to the breadcrumb bar or the main bar in the blue above it?

In the first run after installation, the MiXplorer follows the Android theme, that is, if the Android theme is dark, the MiXplorer will also run with the dark theme.

But this is not always and the MiXplorer does not follow the Android theme.

Screenshot_2022-09-27-23-53-42-421_com.mixplorer.jpg

I know I can go into the MiXplorer settings and enable this by setting the theme but I want it to follow the Android theme by default with no user settings.

Will this file manager work on most androids and does it require root?
thanks much

Works on a wide range of Android versions which are listed in first lines of the first post of this thread (and in the thread name :)). Does not require root although understandably then things which require root could not be done.

every version after mixplorer 6.57.x silver /beta/stable on my room (lineage os 18,android11) have two super annoying bugs :
1) open a text file in the code editor (long enough to have vertical scroll )scroll at the bottom select a word by long pressing it (double click works as expected ), code editor suddenly scroll to the top ,very very annoying.
2) if u click more than once (first time is fine )on the audio /video notification (from notification pane )the media player is no longer brought in focus .
can please someone confirm these 2 issues I'm an old version for months and I'd like to update mixplorer .

Thanks for your answer, but unfortunately it's not quite what I expected =(

    Good morning,
I hope I'm in the right place, in case I accidentally wrong forum please forgive me ...

I have a problem with Mixplorer; I've already read many posts on the forum but reading more than two thousand pages is really an impossible undertaking especially for those who, like me, are unfamiliar with English.

Basically my Mixplorer 6.58.5-API29 doesn't have permission to write to the sd card of my smartphone. I can neither copy or move nor delete or rename any file because the warning of image 1 appears; if I try to paste the file anyway, the warning of image 2 appears.
I tried searching on the net but I couldn't find a solution to the problem yet on my old Redmi Note 4 with Mi-Globe custom rom with A10 it worked perfectly.
I am currently on Redmi Note 8T and MIUI by Xiaomi.eu v. 12.0.4 stable with Android 10.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

    Are you rooted?

Try navigating to SD-card by a different path. Try "/mnt/media_rw/3130-3139".

Try reading the first few posts of the FAQ thread, then follow some links. It will be dozens of posts instead of thousands.

Have you managed to use the "Search thread" option on this site? It sucks, but sometimes the snippet indicates a promising post. Look for things like "SD-card" and "content provider".

In addition to what @J.Michael has written and in case you have missed it:

The link to MiXplorer: Q&A and FAQ (User Manual) can be found in first post of this thread.

If you've got a problem, you should always first check out the first posts of the dedicated thread. Most often, they contain information about common problems and helpful links.

Req. There should a dedicated button to copy file name. The current way to 1st go through the rename menu, long press and copy the file name takes too many steps doesn't fit well with Mixplorer overall user friendliness.

I would advise using Info, rather than Rename, and resist the urge to long-press the link-looking path.

I don't know where you would put yet another button. Maybe Edit menu items "Copy Name", "Copy Path". If there was an Edit menu.

The issue you are experiencing might be a known issue for which there is a workaround or it may be a newer issue with the same symptoms for which there is a different workaround, or something newer still for which there is no workaround. With multiple possible workarounds for a similar set of symptoms it can be hard to suggest one action that will fix it, although IMO in this case @J.Michael's suggestions are a good starting point.

For reasons implied above the documentation for this was once in separate workarounds for separate sets of symptoms but it became more difficult to determine specifically which workaround to apply in which circumstances so I've been consolidating it into one post containing applicable and relatively safe workaround suggestions. This is the consolidated post:

MiX Nugget: Troubleshooting SD card & USB OTG access, and creating Document Providers.
    https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mixplorer-q-a-and-faq-user-manual.3308582/post-87626419

and these posts may contain details not yet consolidated.

and of course there is the possibility that there are stray helpful notes in the threads.

While I don't want to undermine the importance of privacy issues, which are indisputably overlooked, they do go a bit beyond the scope of this thread. I realize that there are over 2000 pages worth of discussion now, and not everything will be razor-sharp to-the-point, but for the sake of keeping things as clean as can be reasonably expected, the time is now to wrap up that aspect of the discussion. Alternatively, you are more than welcome to continue it in a new thread to your hearts' content.

Thank you for helping keep the board clean.
    Hello and good afternoon, @MPK99

This is a development thread, and actually open-sourcing of MiXplorer has already been discussed here. The developer has chosen not to open source his project, and @HootanParsa doesn't owe anybody of us an explanation or justification for his decision. Nobody forces you to use MiXplorer or any other close source application or development.
You've meanwhile hijacked this thread with multiple posts that have nothing to do with development. If you had at least posted in the Q&A thread to question the close source condition.

Less than 24 hours ago, my esteemed teammate @Bill720 requested very politely, maybe too politely, that this thread should stay on topic but obviously his message didn't receive everybody yet. For this reason again and probably more clearly: @MPK99, please immediately refrain from your off-topic posts in this thread. And @Thebear j koss and all others, do not respond to such post as you're just triggering that this development threads deviates from its original purposes.

Please read my message now as a friendly warning, and if you have a question regarding this announcement do not reply to this post but contact me (or any other moderator of your desire and trust by PM addressing your concerns. Prior to such a contact, it might be useful to review the XDA Forum Rules.

Thanks very much for listening, your understandig and your cooperation.

Okay. I was the one who started this topic btw. Not gonna ask about it again.
I've learned that it's pointless to discuss about code rather than the application usage itself.

Also, a last note for everyone (whoever ask about source code in the future)...
Don't discuss about it, if you don't wanna be targetted by forum moderators. Use xda's search engine to read whoever asked before (even if you don't find the answer).
@Oswald Boelcke Thank you for the kind warning. Will refrain from this topic/thread.
I didn't targetted you and never will. All my actions are based on the rules of this private website, to which you agreed to adhere when you registered five years ago.
And I'm not wondering that you didn't listen to @Bill720 as you also didn't listen to me when I politely asked you not to reply to my post but to contact me privately if required.
However, I leave your above post in this thread as you might have been forced to post for reasons I just can assume. However, any further violation of the rules (and we call failure to follow moderator instructions disrespect) might lead to other consequences. I'm convinced other users of XDA and visitors of this thread can set your PSA into the right context.

    Regards
    Oswald Boelcke

And are you that important that you feel that someone who creates an app that has millions of users is adding in nefarious code to steal your data? Nobody cares how much porn you watch. And apktool will most definitely show if there is anything in the code that affects your data. It isn't just for modding and cracking apps. It is a tool provided by Google in Android studio.

I would care less if someone knew I'm watching porn. It's the registered online cloud storage keys that users access through the app, is what's most important. And yep. The chance of stealing is greater, as the project code is hidden (not saying that hootan does, but there's a chance, as the app has the Internet access).
    ...

Hi. Is it possible to disable generation of the thumbnail cache globally? I noticed that my folder data/com.mixplorer.silver/cache/thumbs had over 2 GB, and there were some old photos miniatures, and some bigger files. Is it possible to prevent mixplorer to keep this cache? From what I understood I could create file .nothumbs (or something like this), but that would only work for 1 folder.
Under View - Options you can disable "Cache Thumbnails".
