But you don't need either app to do what you are doing. I use the windows phone link app to transfer files to and from my pixel and I don't use or need any other app. From what I am understanding you are using Samsung files on a Samsung device which is the equivalent as documents provider on pixels or Google files, that is what is used and cannot be frozen, replaced, deleted, uninstalled, as it controls the file structure on your device. You want to replace the native file manager with MiX which cannot be done

I agree that the method of file management in this case does not seem efficient to me either, but Microsoft built software which can identify the file manager on the Android device and then allow the drop on remote control as if it was an operation within the maximize file manager on Android, so users will expect that in some cases. IMO it's all part of each manufacturer and provider trying to contain all of each user's experience within that company's sphere of products. My interest is in determining what Android file managers Microsoft can do that with and I suspect that underneath the Samsung file manager is the Google files app which would be the only analogous app on my Motorola devices that Microsoft could do that with (Although promotions for Phone Link mention "Samsung and other Android" devices implying greater functionality in Samsung).

Thank you very much I think that I agree with your statement that it's on the side of which custom ROM I'm using to permit or not these directories. Because I'm still on OxygenOS 12, stock ROM, I think they've overdone it with security and it seems a bit weird because I can access it directly through androidsu terminal.
As far as permissions are concerned, I have granted every permission there is for the app to work properly... No worries for that.
It's okay though, I'll try switching to a custom rom and see if the problem insists.
Thank you for your time! I will report back once I have the a mixplorer experience with a custom ROM.
@IronTechmonkey all good. After all the problem was that I was restoring the app data with migrate from another phone. Once I cleared the data and granted root access again I could find those directories that were missing.
Thanks a lot! Mixplorer is and will remain the best file explorer.

With all due respect this is the MiXplorer development thread and it should have been clear by the context of this place and of my suggestions that I was talking about logging behavior within MiXplorer. If you cant do that, fine, but you should have made clear the context of the log you shared. That being said, it is an interesting niche case so I'll stay tuned.
Sorry. I had the log taken before making the question and I understood that you were asking for it. I attach the right MiX log now. Thanks again for taking time in helping me.

Fair enough, and I appreciate that it was not intentional. Also, with the disclaimer that I don't speak for the developer but I'm curious about this case, I'd be glad to check out the log (which seems to have not remained attached to the previous post). In particular I'm curious to see how mix is mounting and interpreting the drives among other things.

As far as I can tell when I use it, there are no options given. It works exactly the same as if you have your phone plugged in to your computer. Not sure if I'm misreading the request or not understanding but on computer and on the phone it just uses the windows file manager interface.

There's a long standing bug in Mix where newly connected external storages (flash drives and external HDD) don't show up in the bookmarks page (the one that appears when swiping from left). I have to "reset defaults" for new drives to appear.

You would have to save them. They are not being remembered after disconnecting them I believe.

They are remembered. Problem is newly connected drives don't show up. I have to use the default Samsung file manager if don't want to reset that page every time I plug in a new drive
I use several different USB thumb drives and MiX has always remembered them on all my devices, even without adding them to Bookmarks sometimes. Maybe that's a Samsung issue? Then again on my old Samsung tablet w. custom rom it works fine as well 🤷‍♀️

Incidentally, if the USB doesn't appear on that menu, is there another way to navigate to it in Mix?

Do you have "Link to Windows" installed on your phone?

When I Googled "Phone Link" I got the impression that you need "Phone Link" on the PC and "Link to Windows" on the Android device to produce the startling "open Android device on PC and, among other things, drag and drop between Windows Explorer and Android file explorer".

Since there was talk of Samsung's special relationship with Microsoft, I assume there is something special in the Android file explorer to support being a donor or recipient.

As to why not just use Windows Explorer with a USB-like connection, it sounds like the Android app can access directories not available when the phone is being treated as a mass storage device.

On my Galaxy S21 (Android 12), "Link to Windows" is built into the OS (access via Settings | Advanced Features | Link to Windows (a toggle)). Related to that, there are 2 apps: "Link to Windows Service" (from the Galaxy store) and "Link to Windows" (from the Google Play store).

That sounds familiar and there may have been some energized discussion about whether or not they should be remembered but in my recent experience they are remembered.

Same here (confirmed just now on Moto stock A10 and A11), in fact there was a note from HootanParsa (now in relevant FAQ section) about how to remove a USB bookmark that is too persistent.

There is definitely a special relationship between MS and Samsung for some advanced features but the way the Phone Link software is included or burned-in and promoted in Windows 10 (and more so in Win 11 as I've read) it should have some of that functionality on other non-Samsung devices. Since Android is Android is Google, I suspect that even on the Samsung devices there is base dependency on Google Files components and that on other devices those might carry the load but with less features.

Via Root/Storage should work too :)
Incidentally, if the USB doesn't appear on that menu, is there another way to navigate to it in Mix?

in addition to the quoted suggestion to try accessing the location by root (variations of possible paths may be documented in the FAQ) there is also this about USB OTG and document providers... just in case it is applicable: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mixplorer-q-a-and-faq-user-manual.3308582/post-85878051

If you have your computer on and hooked up to internet, your phone will link to your computer. But there isn't any way that I have seen to sub in another 3rd party app like MiXplorer to connect instead of the windows interface it uses. The app on the play store is basically just a giant ad for other Microsoft and windows products, besides being the service connection to your computer.

What manufacturer device were you using? I'm trying to gauge what to expect if I test this on Motorola device.

Pixel 6 pro. But I've also used it on my 1+7T. I don't use it often, but if you think about any other windows/Microsoft apps for Android you could just easily think it was bloat ware. I use it because I literally take 1000s of pics a year at work and I load them on my laptop and use it to access them when needed at work before they get filed away on a hard drive. Sooner or later I will probably just get my job to splurge for one of them Google 1 plans. Then I can move all my DCP's (blueprints)to digital and clear out about 10 years of them from my storage at work. Sorry, sort of went off on a tangent...

When I said path, I meant procedure, work flow: At what point do you tell any client what username to use?

On which computer are you running a server? What program are you using?

To @J.Michael's point it has not been clear specifically what you are doing. For troubleshooting you want to describe events down to the individual actions, e.g. tap this and swipe that. You can refer to post seven of this FAQ regarding the type of details to provide and how to log an issue.... but before that...

Also, have you reviewed the FAQ post about configuring servers and have configured a user account for the server as described? If so then I'm puzzled about why Filezilla is attempting anonymous access as it should be using the credentials you configured in MiX.

I'm using the default settings on MiXplorer, and I didn't give a username or password to Windows Explorer or FileZilla Client when I was trying to connect to the server.

This is the log file from MiXplorer and a gif for the issue.

    Windows Specification:
    Edition Windows 10 Pro
    Version 20H2
    Installed on ‎4/‎23/‎2021
    OS build 19042.2251
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4180.0

Thanks for the details, those will help the developer pursue a solution if this turns out not to be the simple credential configuration issue it seems to be, but speaking to the possible configuration issue....

As my previous post implies and as the documentation to which you were referred states: MiXplorer servers require creation of an account username and password, therefore since you must create credentials in MiXplorer you must configure matching credentials in the FTP client.

    From here:
    https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mixplorer-q-a-and-faq-user-manual.3308582/post-65157350

    This:
    "Account settings"
"There must be one account (which is equivalent to a username and password configured for the server in the previous MiXplorer versions). Multiple accounts can be created for the same server with each account having different credentials and offering different type of access"

I recommend reviewing the rest of the server documentation as well to make sure you've got known requirements taken care of.

While I don't want to undermine the importance of privacy issues, which are indisputably overlooked, they do go a bit beyond the scope of this thread. I realize that there are over 2000 pages worth of discussion now, and not everything will be razor-sharp to-the-point, but for the sake of keeping things as clean as can be reasonably expected, the time is now to wrap up that aspect of the discussion. Alternatively, you are more than welcome to continue it in a new thread to your hearts' content.

Thank you for helping keep the board clean.
    Hello and good afternoon, @MPK99

This is a development thread, and actually open-sourcing of MiXplorer has already been discussed here. The developer has chosen not to open source his project, and @HootanParsa doesn't owe anybody of us an explanation or justification for his decision. Nobody forces you to use MiXplorer or any other close source application or development.
You've meanwhile hijacked this thread with multiple posts that have nothing to do with development. If you had at least posted in the Q&A thread to question the close source condition.

Less than 24 hours ago, my esteemed teammate @Bill720 requested very politely, maybe too politely, that this thread should stay on topic but obviously his message didn't receive everybody yet. For this reason again and probably more clearly: @MPK99, please immediately refrain from your off-topic posts in this thread. And @Thebear j koss and all others, do not respond to such post as you're just triggering that this development threads deviates from its original purposes.

Please read my message now as a friendly warning, and if you have a question regarding this announcement do not reply to this post but contact me (or any other moderator of your desire and trust by PM addressing your concerns. Prior to such a contact, it might be useful to review the XDA Forum Rules.

Thanks very much for listening, your understandig and your cooperation.

Okay. I was the one who started this topic btw. Not gonna ask about it again.
I've learned that it's pointless to discuss about code rather than the application usage itself.

Also, a last note for everyone (whoever ask about source code in the future)...
Don't discuss about it, if you don't wanna be targetted by forum moderators. Use xda's search engine to read whoever asked before (even if you don't find the answer).
@Oswald Boelcke Thank you for the kind warning. Will refrain from this topic/thread.
I didn't targetted you and never will. All my actions are based on the rules of this private website, to which you agreed to adhere when you registered five years ago.
And I'm not wondering that you didn't listen to @Bill720 as you also didn't listen to me when I politely asked you not to reply to my post but to contact me privately if required.
However, I leave your above post in this thread as you might have been forced to post for reasons I just can assume. However, any further violation of the rules (and we call failure to follow moderator instructions disrespect) might lead to other consequences. I'm convinced other users of XDA and visitors of this thread can set your PSA into the right context.

    Regards
    Oswald Boelcke

And are you that important that you feel that someone who creates an app that has millions of users is adding in nefarious code to steal your data? Nobody cares how much porn you watch. And apktool will most definitely show if there is anything in the code that affects your data. It isn't just for modding and cracking apps. It is a tool provided by Google in Android studio.

I would care less if someone knew I'm watching porn. It's the registered online cloud storage keys that users access through the app, is what's most important. And yep. The chance of stealing is greater, as the project code is hidden (not saying that hootan does, but there's a chance, as the app has the Internet access).
    ...

Hi. Is it possible to disable generation of the thumbnail cache globally? I noticed that my folder data/com.mixplorer.silver/cache/thumbs had over 2 GB, and there were some old photos miniatures, and some bigger files. Is it possible to prevent mixplorer to keep this cache? From what I understood I could create file .nothumbs (or something like this), but that would only work for 1 folder.
Under View - Options you can disable "Cache Thumbnails".
    6
so I have to download app from apk websites.
Why don't you download it from post #2 of this thread - much safer than picking it up from some dodgy download site.
