Thanks for your answers.

I have tried another app (long time ago since havent used it), Root explorer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?hl=en&id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&pli=1), and with it, in Android/data I can copy/paste, delete, edit... the problem is that it does not have media player integrated for videos, audio..
Was that the first app to have a fully working solution for this scoped storage? No matter, have you tried mixplorer using the full root path ? I know its not as convenient at the moment but you could set a bookmark and at least it would achieve all you want until Hootan gets a moment to have a look to fix mix.

Yeah, in that way, that works. Thanks for the workaround

@bombadier, I should have identified sooner that this was similar to the issue you and a few others previously reported but I'm glad did more testing as it revealed new things. Thanks for filling in the gaps.

Alternate paths are described in that batch of linked workarounds but has now been consolidated into what is becoming a primary list of workaround steps here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mixplorer-q-a-and-faq-user-manual.3308582/post-87626419

Suggestions for additions are welcome.

Good morning,
I hope I'm in the right place, in case I accidentally wrong forum please forgive me ...

I have a problem with Mixplorer; I've already read many posts on the forum but reading more than two thousand pages is really an impossible undertaking especially for those who, like me, are unfamiliar with English.

Basically my Mixplorer 6.58.5-API29 doesn't have permission to write to the sd card of my smartphone. I can neither copy or move nor delete or rename any file because the warning of image 1 appears; if I try to paste the file anyway, the warning of image 2 appears.
I tried searching on the net but I couldn't find a solution to the problem yet on my old Redmi Note 4 with Mi-Globe custom rom with A10 it worked perfectly.
I am currently on Redmi Note 8T and MIUI by Xiaomi.eu v. 12.0.4 stable with Android 10.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

PS: sorry for errors and/or inaccuracies, I'm using an online translator

Req. There should a dedicated button to copy file name. The current way to 1st go through the rename menu, long press and copy the file name takes too many steps doesn't fit well with Mixplorer overall user friendliness.
I would advise using Info, rather than Rename, and resist the urge to long-press the link-looking path.

I don't know where you would put yet another button. Maybe Edit menu items "Copy Name", "Copy Path". If there was an Edit menu.

Are you rooted?

Try navigating to SD-card by a different path. Try "/mnt/media_rw/3130-3139".

Try reading the first few posts of the FAQ thread, then follow some links. It will be dozens of posts instead of thousands.

Have you managed to use the "Search thread" option on this site? It sucks, but sometimes the snippet indicates a promising post. Look for things like "SD-card" and "content provider".

The issue you are experiencing might be a known issue for which there is a workaround or it may be a newer issue with the same symptoms for which there is a different workaround, or something newer still for which there is no workaround. With multiple possible workarounds for a similar set of symptoms it can be hard to suggest one action that will fix it, although IMO in this case @J.Michael's suggestions are a good starting point.

For reasons implied above the documentation for this was once in separate workarounds for separate sets of symptoms but it became more difficult to determine specifically which workaround to apply in which circumstances so I've been consolidating it into one post containing applicable and relatively safe workaround suggestions. This is the consolidated post:

MiX Nugget: Troubleshooting SD card & USB OTG access, and creating Document Providers.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mixplorer-q-a-and-faq-user-manual.3308582/post-87626419

and these posts may contain details not yet consolidated.

MiX Nugget - Document Provider
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mixplorer-q-a-and-faq-user-manual.3308582/page-94#post-85878051

MiX Nugget - Android-version specific workarounds
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mixplorer-q-a-and-faq-user-manual.3308582/post-85904825

and of course there is the possibility that there are stray helpful notes in the threads.

I downloaded (and also translated into my language ita) the user manual but I didn't find solutions for my case.
Maybe it could depend on the ROM used? My other phone, Redmi Note 7 with Stock MIUI 12.5.1 India and Android 10, with bootloader unlocked but no root, also has the same problem with Mixplorer

The file manager contained in the ROM works perfectly but I would like to remove it because it is full of ads

Don't bother trying to download the whole user manual. It contains far more information than you might need and some of the information is buried in the threads. Try the suggestions in those three FAQ posts. If you need help interpreting the instructions please feel free ask for clarification. Unfortunately the primary workaround, which is to use a different path from the root directory, may not work on a non rooted device. In this regard we may be waiting for the developer to tweak something.

[EDIT] fixed a typo. I was saying to ask for clarification, not to go to the Internet for clarification.

Just FYI, on some devices negative effects might be caused by freezing or removing the native file manager. This varies by device and it's possible that you will be able to freez it but just be prepared for the possibility that you will have to leave it on the device while you use an alternate file manager. Also, if you do uninstall it then make sure you have a way to restore it if needed. This has nothing to do with an MiXplorer. It has to do with the relationship between the operating system and the native file manager.

Using info, I don't see a way to copy file name, only file PATH.
You're right that there's no room on action bar. It could be made customizable and enable adding/remove button like the other menus.
Another solution is just add option to copy file name in Info button. It's also quicker.

How can I get rid of this popup every time I open the app. If I click add it won't let me select the drive to "use this folder". Only allows me to select a folder in the drive. If I select a random folder and then exit the program and re-enter the popup comes back again. I just want to get rid of the popup every time I open the app.

There is a setting "Enable OTG". Whichever way you have it set, try the other way.

I tried setting it to enabled and disabled but it makes no difference. I've tried everything I can think of. Uninstalling and reinstalling. Clearing the data, clearing cache. The popup will just not go away. It pops up every time I open the app. I can see my sdcard drive and read and write to it. Everything seems normal other than that stupid annoying popup every time. I have an external usb drive migrated to use storage for my Nvidia shield box. I have another Shield with basically the same setup and don't have this annoying popup. I just don't get it.

[edit] I installed X-Plore and it doesn't have any problems or any popups so I can't figure out for the life of me why Mixplorer does.

About the location of folders, can't see what problems would be caused by nesting a folder, its still part of the root of internal storage, unticking the Data in root option just moves the folder back into the app's data folder, why cant the recycle folder be treated the same? both folders are only used by mixplorer, pet peeve of mine is how messy internal storage gets, anyway to keep it nice and tidy and I am in.

Not nesting material critical to a particular function (especially when it is user data) within material critical to another function (which is app data) when those two functions operate independently and can be enabled and disabled independently and are treated differently by the OS may be important for reasons which were spoken to. In the highly variable and irregular android universe it may not be safe to put potentially important user Undo data into the .mixplorer folder (wherever the .mixplorer folder lives).

EG, If a user has to clear MiX app data or uninstall then reinstall MiX, the .recycle folder will persist (confirmed in latest beta) thereby preserving the ability to restore items, but if .recycle were in the app directory it might be deleted under such circumstances or be more complicated for the developer to manage.

Additionally, although I love folder cleanup, I don’t see how what you suggest could be done without one of the 3 thing happening: 1) jeopardize user data, 2) make management of recycle Bin and undo functions more difficult to implement, or 3) require that users have folder structures for both features (Recycle/undo and .mixplorer folder in root) when they only need one.

If I seem persnickety about this that is because, I am what I am, but also motivated by the fact that people may try to put the responsibility of lost data on the developer even when it is the result of user action or inaction in situations where the consequences of that action or inaction was not understood or was ignored.

Have been having a wee play with the undo function, seems to work as expected, can copy/move/rename files, selecting undo from the menu will restore the file,
How "permanent" is the undo option ? if I do a lot of operations will I end up with a massive list under undo ? how would I clear the undo history ? just delete the data? (have answered my own question, just delete the data in .recycle)
How could I do that from within the app UI ?
My only other comment would be could the .recycle folder be nested under the .explorer folder or if the user decides to untick data folder in root the recycle follows it into android/data?
A place for everything and everything in its place, neat and tidy

Thanks for all the updates and work on making Mixplorer the best file manager in the android game

At the bottom of the undo pop up menu is a button to "remove all".

    ---------------------------
As to Dotfolders, +1 to any size limit settings or size or time reminders that could be added to the recycle bin feature without bloating the app but...

although I understand the desire to limit the number of DOT folders in the root of internal and external storage, those folders allow us to work around some of Google's restrictions, and they serve different purposes, and they can be toggled on or off independently. It may not be wise to put the .recycle folder within another folder which serves a different purpose and could be disabled or deleted, or to put it in a location that non-rooted users cannot access. Some users may use the recycle bin but may never need the .mixplorer folder, and for other users it may be the other way around.

Another consideration is that the universe of android OS variability regarding file management is bigger and more variable (that is to say sloppy and inconsistent) than that of windows, ios, or Linux which do things to keep the inner workings of recycle and trash bins out of sight and protected. On android some of these workarounds with DOT folders maybe the only way to achieve some of these things, such as a recycle bin, in the messy Android universe.

In a way the purpose served by these additional folders is to do what you suggest, to create "a place for everything and everything in its place".

In any event, again +1 to any possible enhancements of the presentation possible undo actions, but for the moment, considering the significant changes recently made it might be a good idea for people to explore the functionality of the feature including all available options and buttons, and to confirm that the undo operations are actually successful.
    3
No recycle or undo options in MiXplorer would be my preference.

    Hello everyone!
I hope you're all fine. Happy holiday and new year. Wish you the best.
There was some privacy policy issues for the latest version of Android and I had to update the Silver version ASAP. I will be active on XDA soon and I will upload the new updates.

@m0han Ninja-ed me but, maybe Undo is not quite all back. Not posting as implied criticism, I've been on a deep dive into the Rabbit Hole this Evening (or Morning or Afternoon) and just came up for air after a few hours so here we go.

    6.59.0-BETA B23012410, Stock Moto A10 rooted magisk, testing with files on external SD. Settings > More settings, now includes all 3 options: Recycle bin, Undo, and Remember delete but, I’m not seeing how to use them properly or there are still issues with them. Details below;

    - With only Recycle Bin enabled then recycled files are sent to the .recycle folder and can be restored manually but there is no apparent option in the menu. The deleted files in the .recycle folder retain their original names but without something like the menu that was used for the old undo function, a user would have to know the file name and search for it or search for all files in the .recycle folder to find the item to restore.

    - With only Undo enabled then after copy or move (or delete) operations, there is a Menu > undo item but invoking it yields toast “no item”.

    - With both Recycle Bin and Undo enabled, then the same as above: after copy or move or delete operations, there is a Menu > undo item but invoking it yields toast “no item”.

    - The .recycle folder (when not deleted between tests) seems to contain the files that were deleted with Recycle Bin enabled, and also seems to contain the folders for the copy/moves (although those folders contain no identifiable files.

    - With both Recycle Bin and Undo disabled, a file that is Deleted via Select > menu > tap delete > acknowledge permanent = is actually deleted and does not force the creation of the. recycle folder. That is good but…

    - Now we get to the drum I may beat until the skin on my hand or the skin of the drum starts to crack. With both Recycle Bin and Undo disabled, Select > long press deletes still creates the .recycle folder and copies the file there. I don’t care what is done with the Recycle Bin because I don’t use it and that it sort the point. I dont use it but it still can happen. Even with all relevant options disabled it is all too easy for an intended delete operation to become a file copy operation into it another folder unbeknownst to the user and not with the scope of familiar locations where it might be discovered. Please give us a way to disable this.

    Notes:

Remember delete option remained disabled throughout testing.

.recycle folder was deleted between major test segments,

BTW @HootanParsa, assuming that both Beta and XDA version might be using the .recycle folder, are there any concerns for people who use Recycle Bin in multiple version of MiX (XDA, Silver, Beta)? This is not of concern to me as I only Recycle Bin in the beta for testing (so there is nothing potentially placed there by the XDA version is at risk) but I was curious about this.
    - 'Remember Delete option' will remember the last selected option in dialog.
    - Uncheck 'Recycle bin' to hide the 'Recycle bin' option in dialog. Then you can only long press on Delete button to send files to recycle bin and delete later.
    - 'Undo' is a separate feature to also be able to undo some other operations. I added this option because I'm afraid the operations in the older devices will become slower. The saved file paths are encrypted.

The reason for enabling 'Recycle bin' by default is that some users sent me messages (some with F words) about losing their files, because they thought they will go to recycle bin like in the other operating systems.
    12
Now the word "Trash" is gone so what will Mac users do? :D

But seriously, even though I agree with the change in terminology the new label is so long as to undermine itself as a label.

@HootanParsa, here is a suggestion which might accommodate all user preferences while making the label shorter by renaming it to the following:

Recycle (also known as Undo or Trash).
It's not just about the Trash bin.
If you enable Undo, you will be able to undo operations like Moving, Renaming, Sending to trash/recycle bin and...

    Edit:
I will add a different option for Recycle/Trash bin.
    10
For the love of all that is holy, how the hell do you turn off the Recycle Bin?

    Most annoying thing ever....
More annoying than people who can't read a few pages back in a thread, or maybe even search the thread which would lead you to your answer and/or the amazing MiXplorer thread by @IronTechmonkey that has loads of useful info. Just like what you were asking about.
    10
FYI, almost all settings are listed here, including a change to the way they are structured which was made some time ago: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mixplorer-q-a-and-faq-user-manual.3308582/post-82834917.

Why disabling Recycle bin option is not so obvious, as it was on previous versions?

Settings > More settings > undo. That setting has not moved in a long time.
It seems that in some cases we may have to disable Undo again after this new update, but that should be a one-time thing.

How can I disable thumbnails? I can't find any option for that in More Settings.

View > Options (thumbnail and preview settings are here)

Is it possible to edit format of information (date, time, size, number of items for folder) under folder and file name?

There are several view settings which might be applicable (eg more details, and others) and there is also Settings > More settings > custom date time

As far as I remember, in 6.41.3 version all of that were simply configurable.
    ...

...And they still are configurable. You just lost track. At some point the settings were separated into different groups including these three.

    Settings > More settings...,
    and
View > Options (thumbnail and preview settings are here)
    and
    Sort > Options

Speaking from experience, few settings have been removed, just rearranged once, and there are many new settings.
