Share/SendTo should be cases of "action initiated by user".
Same for login to cloud storage.
MiXplorer is able to write many details for all features in the log file if logging is enabled in the settings but users can share them and they've done that.
I chose Email address for Collect and everything else for Share.
I don't really have more time to think about it and to read Google resources.
Thanks for all the info you shared. They were helpful.

Undo in 6.59.0-BETA-B23012610, anyone? That's not another song reference but rather a real question. :)

There are still issue with Undo but first, "Very clever, Mr. Bond". With Recycle bin and Undo disabled, now [Select > long press delete] invokes the permanent delete prompt as would be the case if the delete button had been tapped with items selected, without copying the file to .recycle (and without creating .recycle). I hope people who wanted long press to delete for recycle can understand this may be a good compromise that allows people to disable the recycle stuff if they choose to, and in either case long press delete follows the user's choice.

As to Recycle Bin and undo in 6.59.0-BETA-B23012610: After any file operation or deletion then Menu > Undo yields a toast stating "no item". The Undo material seems to exist in .recycle but unless I'm missing some new option there is no way to Undo anything via the UI. Recycled items exist in the the . recycle tree and can be recovered manually but undo material for the file copy and move operations are buried in the data files and there seems to be no way to undo those operations.

With the recycle bin and undo enabled, the attached log spans a file deletion, then an attempt to undo, then a file copy, then an attempt to undo, then a file move, then an attempt to undo. All attempts to undo yield the "no item" toast. In the log each of the 3 groups of repeated log lines "E/RecycleHelper> No item!" is from one of the 3 tested file operations.

For privacy, the following changes were made in the log: External SD label replaced by "LABEL". Renamed 2 folders not involved with the test to "REDACTED1" and "REDACTED2"
Do you have "data (1)" file in .recycle subfolders?

If I may add or refresh the issue: SMB3 keeps being extremely low, I've tested other explorer with SMB3 access and I'm getting 19MB/s stable. If I try to do the same operation on MiXplorer, it tops at 3MB/s with spikes of almost 5.

I've been using MiXplorer for years and I really wouldn't like to move, but that's a big piece of speed stripped of.
Tried on Poco F2 and on MiPad 4, on the Poco I was getting even 34MB/s.

Do you have the option of using SMB2 or SMB1 to access the same share that is performing so poorly on SMB3? Just to compare performance.

I'd like to know if it would be possible to pause a Mixplorer playing song, pressing the pause button on a bluetooth device (like with x-plorer android app). So far I didn't manage to do it: I press the bitton on the bluetooth device, but on the smartphone the song keep playing.
Try the new beta and tell me the result. Thank you.

Try the new beta and tell me the result. Thank you.

In 6.59.0-BETA B23012730 Undo has been redone (as it were).

Now both Recycle Bin and Undo seem to be working. This test did not include confirmation of the individual restorations or reversal of file operations (and I recommend that people do test for that specifically; I will do the same when there is more time). This was a basic test of the workflow through the UI and the presentation of the actionable undo items with both Recycle Bin and Undo enabled.

File operations including Delete, Copy, Move and Rename all appear in the expected pop-up list when “Undo” is invoked in the menu. There is material in the .recycle folder which is consistent with proper functionality but, again, I did not confirm that the undo operations would be successful. Time permitting I may be able to test that later as well as test with one or the other, Recycle Bin or Undo, enabled, or on another device. This is looking good but it would be nice to hear from those who use these features regularly as well.

Have been having a wee play with the undo function, seems to work as expected, can copy/move/rename files, selecting undo from the menu will restore the file,
How "permanent" is the undo option ? if I do a lot of operations will I end up with a massive list under undo ? how would I clear the undo history ? just delete the data? (have answered my own question, just delete the data in .recycle)
How could I do that from within the app UI ?
My only other comment would be could the .recycle folder be nested under the .explorer folder or if the user decides to untick data folder in root the recycle follows it into android/data?
A place for everything and everything in its place, neat and tidy

Thanks for all the updates and work on making Mixplorer the best file manager in the android game

At the bottom of the undo pop up menu is a button to "remove all".

---------------------------
As to Dotfolders, +1 to any size limit settings or size or time reminders that could be added to the recycle bin feature without bloating the app but...

although I understand the desire to limit the number of DOT folders in the root of internal and external storage, those folders allow us to work around some of Google's restrictions, and they serve different purposes, and they can be toggled on or off independently. It may not be wise to put the .recycle folder within another folder which serves a different purpose and could be disabled or deleted, or to put it in a location that non-rooted users cannot access. Some users may use the recycle bin but may never need the .mixplorer folder, and for other users it may be the other way around.

Another consideration is that the universe of android OS variability regarding file management is bigger and more variable (that is to say sloppy and inconsistent) than that of windows, ios, or Linux which do things to keep the inner workings of recycle and trash bins out of sight and protected. On android some of these workarounds with DOT folders maybe the only way to achieve some of these things, such as a recycle bin, in the messy Android universe.

In a way the purpose served by these additional folders is to do what you suggest, to create "a place for everything and everything in its place".

In any event, again +1 to any possible enhancements of the presentation possible undo actions, but for the moment, considering the significant changes recently made it might be a good idea for people to explore the functionality of the feature including all available options and buttons, and to confirm that the undo operations are actually successful.

@HootanParsa, a suggestion for Undo > Remove All: Add a prompt which appears after the "Remove All" button is tapped and which reminds the user that the following action will permanently delete all items in the recycle bin and any changes that have been tracked by the Undo feature.

Reasoning: In its current form it is fairly easy for users to remove all items from the Recycle Bin/Undo without fully understanding the consequence that action. Yes, it says “remove all”, and “all” means “all” but this is effectively a command to permanently delete items, and since regular file deleting/recycling yields a prompt which reminds the user what action is being taken and gives them a chance to confirm or cancel it, perhaps Undo > Remove all should have an additional prompt of that sort.

The big massive button REMOVE ALL ..... that I completely missed, Time to book an opticians appointment and get the headlamps tested.

As far as function goes seems that undo is working as intended, I tested copy/move and rename, also long pressing the file action in the undo menu brings up more details ie rename will show the new name and the old name which is fine for me, one possible refinement would be to remove selected undo actions, ie keep the rename ones but remove copy/move if that makes sense, at the moment its remove all or keep all.

About the location of folders, can't see what problems would be caused by nesting a folder, its still part of the root of internal storage, unticking the Data in root option just moves the folder back into the app's data folder, why cant the recycle folder be treated the same? both folders are only used by mixplorer, pet peeve of mine is how messy internal storage gets, anyway to keep it nice and tidy and I am in.

I separated replies to your post into two separate tracks, one for this potential feature request and the other for the more general discussion about folders.

I’m not understanding that. One of the core purposes of this function is to track file copy and move operations; People who use it for that purpose would not want to “remove selected undo action… copy/move.” Rather, do you mean to suggest that there be different “Remove All” controls for the different categories, IE separate buttons to “remove all deleted items” and to “remove all Undo (copy/move) history”? If, so, +1.

Not nesting material critical to a particular function (especially when it is user data) within material critical to another function (which is app data) when those two functions operate independently and can be enabled and disabled independently and are treated differently by the OS may be important for reasons which were spoken to. In the highly variable and irregular android universe it may not be safe to put potentially important user Undo data into the .mixplorer folder (wherever the .mixplorer folder lives).

EG, If a user has to clear MiX app data or uninstall then reinstall MiX, the .recycle folder will persist (confirmed in latest beta) thereby preserving the ability to restore items, but if .recycle were in the app directory it might be deleted under such circumstances or be more complicated for the developer to manage.

Additionally, although I love folder cleanup, I don’t see how what you suggest could be done without one of the 3 thing happening: 1) jeopardize user data, 2) make management of recycle Bin and undo functions more difficult to implement, or 3) require that users have folder structures for both features (Recycle/undo and .mixplorer folder in root) when they only need one.

If I seem persnickety about this that is because, I am what I am, but also motivated by the fact that people may try to put the responsibility of lost data on the developer even when it is the result of user action or inaction in situations where the consequences of that action or inaction was not understood or was ignored.

I would like that undo and delete are treated separate, the undo option would be for copy/move/rename and a separate delete/bin function that relates to just that. undo history and delete history.
What I was suggesting about the undo history would be to remove individual things from the history list, eg I have done a bunch of file renames and copying, from the undo history I may want to remove the copying records but want to keep the rename, the way undo history works at the moment is you can delete the whole history or keep the whole history, would be good to pick and choose what bits of the undo history gets kept

Not sure I like that mixplorer leaves stuff lying around, I know when you uninstall it asks if you want to keep user data, I personally dont really care for a recycle bin, actually caused me to run out of space on my tablet because I forgot/didn't notice I had it turned on lol, personally I would want the undo to be part of app data that could be included in app data back up/restore
if it could be done I would want undo and delete to be separate things in the menu with different settings for each.

Can anyone explain why it needs so much information and data to be taken and shared with third parties? Thank you
I believe it is a misunderstanding.
I believe the correct statement would be "this app does not share any data".

Some people at Google have decided that any app that requests a particular permission MUST be sharing data. This is a stupid opinion: When you ask Mixplorer to access your Google Drive account on your behalf, and Mixplorer passes along the credentials you provide to gain that access, that is not "sharing" data. But the people at Google whose job is "verifying" privacy policy declarations either do not understand, or just want to take the easy way out -- after all, who is going to get in trouble if the policy says "may share" but the app *never* shares?
    5
No idea, just basing it mainly on the information provided that it may share photos with third parties? if the dev has explained it then I guess that's ok. It just doesn't seem to jive with the Privacy Policy on the devs website.
I'm pretty sure he HAD to add that because the folks at google had a sh!tfit about the storage logins. Of course if you use any of those then your "data" aka logins and your photos, if you upload them, will be shared ... but I guess logic isn't the strongsuit of any google employee 😁

IIRC, you can use 0s and 1s or Y and N. At one time an attempt was made to describe advanced parameters in the FAQ but it never got past a rudimentary list. That being said most of the items are fairly standard networking parameters which can be otherwise researched. I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to have a cohesive list but since we don't have that researching them is what we can do.

[EDIT] @rsngfrce, wait a minute: do you not have a "disable lock" toggle in the security prompt.
    View attachment 5868161

You may have discovered a glitch (or we just have to reconfigure bookmark in a case like this). That screenshot was taken while an old MiX Gdrive bookmark was reconfigured; after changing that setting (and allowing the requisite google permission along the way) the pattern/fingerprint was no longer requested for that particular bookmark. However for new bookmarks, there is a lock option in the initial configuration panel but it does not appear later as it did for the old bookmark which was reconfigured. You might have to re-create a drive bookmark (including authorization to the google account) and leave that option unchecked.

Note for reliable testing: force close MiXplorer between tests so as not to remain logged in based on previous session (eg if you have one good and one bad bookmark and are switching between the 2 for testing).

As to advanced settings, the Gdrive bookmark will start with the first 8 listed below and will have 2 more when the bookmark is completed.

    trust=
    encoding=
    keep alive=
    user_agent=
    timeout=
    external_login=
    free=
    total=
expires_in=[xxxx] (added after bookmark is fully configured)
extra=Bearer (added after bookmark is fully configured)
Hmm... well, you seem to have resolved my issue! When I add the GDrive, there IS a lock option on the setup screen. Not checking it removes the need to unlock. I don't think I would have checked this when adding it before, but it WAS locking and I see no option on the lock screen to disable locking like your example (though it just occurred to me that it MIGHT be invisible in my theme). Not sure if this was a bug or random.

(EDIT: It also just occurred to me that the lock option WASN'T in the screenshot I took and posted EARLIER today. 🤔 I DID force quit before the second screenshot).Screenshot_20230202_161657_MiXplorer.png

Solid Explorer seems to default to no authentication. I believe it uses a seperate master password that CAN be enabled if chosen. MiX defaults to REQUIRING authorization and from my reading of the FAQ thread, it seems only Hootan knows how the "advanced settings" are to be uaed. Is it 1's and 0's? Y's and N's? I guess the assumption is we know this? I don't personally.

Most of those items have to do with the functionality of MiXplorer, eg in order to present a list of installed apps or to share files with other apps that permission must be announced, but I don't think the developer is sharing our information with third parties unrelated to the function of the app.

Is there a way to compare the contents of folders without having to manually compare files in two separate tabs? I have 2 folders; one has 236 files, while another has 235. I want to know what the 1 file that's different between the two folders amongst the 235 duplicate files is.
The following command does a recursive comparison — i.e. it also compares any folder within the specified ones — and returns the differences, if any, in a sorted list under STDOUT. For the sake of simplicity*, place both folders in the same directory (folder) and proceed from within that directory.

    - 3dot menu (in address bar) > Execute
    - Enter the following command, replacing folder1 and folder2 with their actual names**:

    diff -qr 'folder1' 'folder2' | sort

    - EXECUTE

    * When using absolute paths, that command can be executed from any directory on folders located anywhere on your device.
** If a folder name contains the ' character, use " in the command, or (best practice) rename the folder.

I was not arguing against your suggestion just pointing that a saved bookmark for internal or external SD achieves something very similar to what you said you want. College a workaround until you learn what happens of your feature request.
He wants the list of files from the Android media store instead of searching directories. Because it's faster to get all files from the media store in a second. But he's requesting to separate files from internal and external storage.
    @randao
But I remember it was possible to create a custom list for media store and bookmark it. I should take a look at it again.

Edit: Open the APK bookmark > Open the filter input box > select 'Prefix' from the filter menu options > Type /storage/emulated/0/ > Tap on the right arrow button to open the new list > Long-press on the address bar and Add-to > Bookmarks. Now you have a new bookmark with APKs from the internal storage. You can do the same for any other directory.

    From the changelog:

    • Added an indicator line at the left side of screen to open the left drawer (Android 29+).

I guess this was added to override the swiping from the left to go back gesture (discussed recently).

Discussed by me. I was the one who mentioned it. I brought this on myself, haha. Ah, well...

Users are sending me request for material you theme. I already don't even know how that is but has anyone made one? If there is any restriction to make it, please let me know.
Please do not implement a material you theme. And if you do, please make a way to disable it. Material you and dynamic theming is just lazy garbage that makes apps look like crap. It is awful and makes absolutely no sense except to lazy themers who can create material you icon packs and themes with absolutely no work put into them. Just more gimmicky crap for google fanboys to drool over, until they actually leave the 5th grade and realize there are so many better options. Plus material you themes don't work unless you use fruity bright colored wallpapers.
