Regarding v6.60.0-BETA B23020860 compared to change-log (which may be based on 6.60.0_B23020850) some observations (and possible problems with new search separated into following post)

• Added WhatsApp, Telegram, Twitter, Instagram bookmarks.

These might not appear until: Drawer > menu > reset defaults. New ones and the existing built in search bookmarks, and default bookmarks for the individual drives may be moved from groups in the middle or bottom to the top. This is somewhat expected and reorganizing them was not very difficult but that may vary depending on how bookmarks have been arranged.

• Added supporting images for Convert feature.

Select image > menu > convert [added to task list as a "convert" job] > invoke job > select "To" (output file type).

Results may vary depending on the nature of the source file which makes it hard to distinguish potential issues. I witnessed apparent failure and apparent success with each of the following three file types, .JPG, .BMP and .GIF, Fail: in one case a toast reported that the job was not possible but in others the job seems to proceed then said no file was created. Also with each of the aforementioned three file types there were apparent successful operations where the status bar was visible and there was a toast indicating one file processed but I cannot find where converted files are. It's possible that the apparent successes were converted in place without new timestamps but I'm not sure what the expectations are . I advise people test this only on duplicate expendable test material. Meanwhile, I'm more concerned about the search function issues which were discovered while attempting to find the converted files. The people who want this conversion feature can test it.

@HootanParsa, possible issues with new search.

• Optimized searching speed.

Although I've not had a chance to time whole-device searches, the new search was incidentally tested while exploring the results of the convert feature, and there may be a problem with search that is more important than speed, and which may be the reason why some of us preferred the slower and more reliable straight-up search. :)

Recursive searches seem to be ignoring the fact that the search was invoked from a particular folder (IE intended to go recursively down from there, not up) so rather than finding items within the designated branch (active folder) of the tree the search is finding all matching items across all internal and external storage, even those outside that path..

To reproduce:
Navigate into directory (lets call it folder X) on external storage > Search button > recursive (advanced) search panel > contains = [criteria] > Go.

Expected behavior (existing in versions prior to this one):
Only items which match the criteria AND which reside within that part of the directory tree (folder X) are found.

Current behavior in this version: all items which match the criteria and exist anywhere on internal or external storage, even outside the search path, are found.

EG:
In previous versions of MiX, a search for a DOT (my simple "all files" search) from the tested folder would find about 750 files in that folder but in this beta the same search on the same media yields all matching 23,000+ files in all internal and external storage.

In a repeat test to eliminate possible anomalies caused by searching for a DOT, search was done for a combination of two letters which are used in a small number of files in the intended search directory as well as other storage locations. In previous versions of MiX that search returns the one file in that part of the tree and which contained those two characters in sequence, but the same search on the same media in the beta version yields all 32 files containing that combination of letters anywhere on internal or external storage.

Hi...

When transferring files between two android 10 and android 13 stock no root devices and vice-versa with MiXplorer v.6.59.1 B23020180, using the FTP server,

I detected a behavior that was inconsistent with the enabled settings:

more precisely after having set as "work folder" /storage/emulated/0/Download selected "Force use of this folder" and clicked on "Save", the transfers are always concluded at the path /storage/emulated/0/.

Secondly, it also seems that the setting to force a specific folder is not remembered. In fact, re-entering the FTP server settings after having made the "Force use of this folder" and "Save" modification, the box is found unchecked.

Am I doing something wrong or is this behavior normal?

Cheers...

The root folder for clients is contextual, based on how the server was started, and there are at least three different ways to invoke servers, one of which for instance would invoke it at the currently visible directory, and others which should open it at the designated location.

The servers FAQ post is woefully out of date regarding the "home" folder, AKA root of client view (not to be confused with bookmark Home page) but other stuff there has been recently updated, and reviewing that post regarding starting servers (and some other things) might be generally helpful. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mixplorer-q-a-and-faq-user-manual.3308582/post-65157350/

To the point of your specific question, if the server is invoked from directly from bottom bar then root to clients should be the same as the currently active folder in the MiXplorer UI on the server device. If the server is invoked from within the server configuration panel then root to clients should be the designated folder from the configuration panel.

Factors:
- If left blank then the the home directory will be auto populated by the root of internal storage (as you may have witnessed).
- Different clients may yield somewhat different behavior. Full client such as Filezilla on desktop recommended for testing and set up before using native Windows, iOS, or Linux file explorers.

I am on the latest beta downloaded from the link in this post (betas are not available here, BTW). Just noticed that I cannot navigate to the parent directory using the 'breadcrumbs' feature. Shows 'Null', when, in fact, the folder exists. Anyone face this problem, yet? Any solution? And, where/how can I get WhatsApp, Telegram, Twitter, Instagram bookmarks?

Yes, breadcrumb navigation always results in "null" message. I use back gesture to get up one level, repeat as many times as needed. Obviously with the breadcrumb path you could get back up as many levels as needed in a single tap, so just a workaround, not a solution.

Hello @HootanParsa
First of all, thank you a lot for this wonderful file explorer, best replacement for the ES, in fact even better than the paid Solid Explorer :)

Back to my query.
Could you please look into Yandex login for the app? I have tried to add Yandex Disk so I could backup my call recordings but I keep seeing this error "redirect_uri does not match the Callback URL defined for the client".

I have already tried adding "yes" to "external_login" option. Also, have upgraded to latest beta shared just two comments above this comment of mine.

Edit: My phone is OnePlus 7 with Lineage OS 20, not yet rooted, if that matters.

How long is it taking Mixplorer? How far is that from what you can live with

Consideration: searches starting at root, can take a very long time because the search will see results along multiple different paths and mount points which go to the same material. Additionally, the way the OS handles mounts and paths, and the size of storage and nature of material in storage can be factors which could increase the time of searches and add variability across different situations. FWIW. I've timed search from root in MiX fairly recently and found that it took 20-25 minutes on a device with 32 GB internal SD and 128 GB external SD, each about 80% full. Depending on what was being sought, in some cases results appeared in a few minutes but in other cases they did not appear until the end of the search. Then let's not forget the android media library and associated databases which do a lot of the work for some types of file searches but can be unreliable; something like that might suit your purposes but the search I referred to is a direct search for the material on the drive without regard to the database.

The type of search you are doing, from root of internal storage or root of external storage, should not take very long in MiX if you are searching for parts of the file name or by suffix or type as long as you are not searching for text within the files which would take longer. Of course, searches on network locations would also take longer. To @J.Michael's point, you should time a highly controlled search performed when there is no other activity on the device and note the specific details of what you did. Maybe there is some way to improve the speed.

I have files that are mirrored from my Windows 10 PC ( about24,000 files and is about 96GB). The files are in a structure under one folder.

I set up a test file (TestMXplorer.pdf) which was down a couple of levels. On Windows 10 PC the search for part of the name (tmx) found the file as I types using Everything (https://www.voidtools.com/).

On my realme X2 (android 11) the files were loaded in the phone memory and the same search took 50 seconds.
On a Huawei M5 the same files were stored on a MicroSD card and the search took 15 seconds.

I can see no reason why the search is so much slower on the realme with files on internal memory and not MicroSD card.

I would like the search to be much faster for both devices.

I would also search for a fragment of the file name (Contains) but also specify the file type (eg PDF or TXT).

The beauty of Everything is that you can enter fragments of the file name in any order to assist the search. eg "pdf tmx" for the above example will work as will " mx pdf t"

Anything like this could assist!

You have not said just where you were sitting when you initiated the search.
Also, please search for something that matches files outside of the intended search path, just to confirm that the search is indeed confined to the expected sub-tree.

I don't know "Everything", but it might be using some kind of cache. Maybe it's scanned your PC in the past, maybe Windows maintains some kind of cache. You would have to find some way to clear the cache to make it a fair comparison. Maybe rebooting the PC would help, but I think there is a Windows service that pre-fills some cache as soon as you boot.

Another data point would be: open a terminal window, change to the directory from which you are searching, and use the find command:
Bash:
time find . -iname \*frag\*

On Windows 10 PC the search for part of the name (tmx) found the file as I types using Everything (https://www.voidtools.com/).

Windows, and other desktop OS dedicate significant resources (most of what the computer does when we are not at it) to indexing and pre-caching. There are parallels to the androids where the media library meets some of those purposes but with less resources, greater cost to performance and lower reliability & consistency,y so a direct comparison may not be fair. Keeping within Android...

On my realme X2 (android 11) the files were loaded in the phone memory and the same search took 50 seconds.
On a Huawei M5 the same files were stored on a MicroSD card and the search took 15 seconds.

Maybe those devices are using the android media library instead of just doing a raw search (to @J.Michael's point about caching - Ninja!) . That is somewhat to the point of your primary question and it seems to be the case that the developer is working on it. Check my recent posts about what happened when they tried to make the search faster. The developer fixed the issue I reported that was introduced by the 1st attempt to make search faster but I have not checked the most recent beta..

I would like the search to be much faster for both devices.

Don't we all? LOL. But seriously, you've provided information which is food for thought but because the results from different storage and different devices are being compared there is not a clear direct comparison. This is not to doubt your claims about speed which is to the point of the new beta but it would help to have some tangible and consistent comparison to make for each test.

Suggestion: Prepare one folder structure for testing and only use that folder and don't change the contents of that folder throughout the testing. Then as you have done, test and time the various methods of search for the exact same search on the exact same media. The timed results from those tests will make for better direct comparisons between MiX and other app and between different version of MiX.
'
I would also search for a fragment of the file name (Contains) but also specify the file type (eg PDF or TXT).
The beauty of Everything is that you can enter fragments of the file name in any order to assist the search. eg "pdf tmx" for the above example will work as will " mx pdf t"

Regex expression (which MiX can use) may be more powerful and versatile but there is a learning curve and I don't know that it would help with speed, just with isolating the content you seek.

-----------
Disclaimer: I don't have the best interests of this particular feature request at heart. In fact I tested it only because I anticipated problems exactly like what occurred. Also anticipated was that those who requested this did not test for or catch the newly introduces issues. I suggest that those who want this test it in the beta versions themselves. I'd be fine if the developer spent their time working on other things.

Hi dear hootan and MiX team
A problem which I have with MIXPLORER is the apps that I share from app part ( content://mix/app) don't work normally and in most case after installation I can't even open the app and error occurs. despite in ES file explorer , this option works very best and I can share any apk file from my installed applications; like SHAREIT which does it itself.

@HootanParsa, regarding Convert: Upon more testing, it does work (and nicely so) with files on internal storage, but on external storage it is not working due to some sort of permissions issue. Test material is an identical folder of images within the Pictures directory on each internal and external storage. Stock Moto A10 device which never has permissions issues and on which only one document provider at root of external storage need be created. Here is a snipet of log (storage label redacted as matter of policy but it was a standard 9 character alphanumeric label with hyphen in the middle).

29 I/MiX> ----- Operation started ----------------------
‌30 I/MiX> Action: CONVERT
‌31 I/OPERATION> #1 CONVERT /storage/[DRIVELABELREDACTED]/Pictures/Test/aLog.gif
‌32 D/COUNT> Total: 1
‌33 E/BitmapEncoder> Failed to encode Bitmap /storage/[DRIVELABELREDACTED]/Pictures/Test/aLog.png: open failed: EACCES (Permission denied)
‌34 I/OPERATION> #1 CONVERT -------

‌35 I/MiX> No item converted
‌36 I/MiX> ----- Operation finished.

Another data point would be: open a terminal window, change to the directory from which you are searching, and use the find command:
Bash:
time find . -iname \*frag\*
I started the search at the head of the file system I copied from Windows (not the base of the Internal memory or SD card). The second or subsequent searches on same files and search term was much faster than the original search.
When I started from the base, searching all internal memory or SD the search was definitely slower than the original search.

I executed the command (time find . -iname \*tmx\*) in the head of the file tree and it was approximately an order of magnitude faster (approx one tenth of the time)

Yes Everything on Windows does use an index. It indexes the Master File Table Quotes from the FAQ
"Everything" only indexes file and folder names and generally takes a few seconds to build its database.
A fresh install of Windows 10 (about 120,000 files) will take about 1 second to index.
1,000,000 files will take about 1 minute."
Updates to the index are done instantaneously. Resources used are very low.

If the GUI search was equal to the command line speed or the search used a simple index like Everything the speed should drastically improve.

No. I need to everytime automove everything from that folder. Not select file. Always move everyfile in that directory.

If the material is dynamic so pre-selected list of files is not applicable, then a regex expression to take action on all files in the directory might be exactly what you want. Regex is a big topic but that should be an easy one to find as it is probably fairly common.

    ------------------
[... pause to search for the appropriate regex expression]

Pardon a side rant about Google. It should be easy to find top level results for "regex expression to move all files" since move all describes a very specific criteria which is almost certainly the most common such command other than moving an individual file, but Google's algorithms in their infinite wisdom provide nothing but links to descriptions of more detailed matching of patterns. Hey Boogle, the pattern is "ALL". Gahhhhhhh!
    ------------------

Anyhooo, chances are that someone in this thread knows how to do that off the top of their head, and there is a post in the FAQ with several examples of regex expressions and links to related resources.

Is there a way to compare the contents of folders without having to manually compare files in two separate tabs? I have 2 folders; one has 236 files, while another has 235. I want to know what the 1 file that's different between the two folders amongst the 235 duplicate files is.
The following command does a recursive comparison — i.e. it also compares any folder within the specified ones — and returns the differences, if any, in a sorted list under STDOUT. For the sake of simplicity*, place both folders in the same directory (folder) and proceed from within that directory.

    - 3dot menu (in address bar) > Execute
    - Enter the following command, replacing folder1 and folder2 with their actual names**:

    diff -qr 'folder1' 'folder2' | sort

    - EXECUTE

    * When using absolute paths, that command can be executed from any directory on folders located anywhere on your device.
** If a folder name contains the ' character, use " in the command, or (best practice) rename the folder.

I was not arguing against your suggestion just pointing that a saved bookmark for internal or external SD achieves something very similar to what you said you want. College a workaround until you learn what happens of your feature request.
He wants the list of files from the Android media store instead of searching directories. Because it's faster to get all files from the media store in a second. But he's requesting to separate files from internal and external storage.
    @randao
But I remember it was possible to create a custom list for media store and bookmark it. I should take a look at it again.

Edit: Open the APK bookmark > Open the filter input box > select 'Prefix' from the filter menu options > Type /storage/emulated/0/ > Tap on the right arrow button to open the new list > Long-press on the address bar and Add-to > Bookmarks. Now you have a new bookmark with APKs from the internal storage. You can do the same for any other directory.
