Good idea for testing purposes but for longer term:

Can you (or anyone) tell from the log what it is about that particular zip that MiX does not like and whether or not it might be worth HP pursuing as fix or improvement?
It's not a zip, it's an apk

You can open apks with zip readers but they don't reveal everything.

Use apktool for apks

My mistake, thanks for the incidental clarification. I intended to say "archive". Point being the same, IIRC MiXplorer does have some capability to create or modify the content of apks. If that is incorrect then I stand corrected, but if that is correct then there is some merit to this user's report.

Moot as I intended to say "archive", although that distinction betwen APKs and other archives may be part of an unavoidable but as yet unexplained limitation - the very explanation I seek.

No one has as yet stated a specific reason why MiXplorer cannot handle that particular file while it can handle the same action on other files. Maybe there is such a reason, in which case I seek to know that reason, and if there is no reason then it might be something HP can work with.

Disclaimer: this is not to disagree with the recommendation to use a dedicated APK utility for managing APK files, but in the absence of a specific reason why that file did not work in MiXplorer, this seems like a reasonable request for MiXplorer development. Both of these things can be true at the same time.

I do not do well teasing information out of repeatedly watching a video, so I'm not sure what he was doing, or at what point he was unhappy. It looked like Mixplorer successfully displayed the contents of the archive, and then failed to delete something from the archive. The error message seems to say it is not a ZIP file, or at least not the kind of ZIP file with which Mixplorer is familiar. Maybe the archive is a newer version of ZIP, and while Mixplorer seems to make sense of the directory structure, it does not correctly request a deletion.

See @Spannaa 's reply. Apks technically are not zips. They are not created with a zip maker, like 7zip or Zarchive. To delete contents of apks you need to use apktool.

Thanks for the clarification. As the initial reports mentioned being able to do the same in a different a file I thought there might be some difference between the files, but based on what you have stated and what @Spannaa implied that seems not to be the case and we should not expect to be able to do that with any APK (except maybe one that is essentially a zip file named as an APK or something like that).

Whilst you can open an apk with MiXplorer, and delete or add contents, the resulting apk will be usually be compromised due to it's assets not being updated in resources.arsc

Doing anything other than simple stuff like replacing the odd .png requires the apk to be decoded first.

This is not something that should be part of Mixplorer.

I don't mean to request an apk editor in this application??
did you guys misunderstand? or I mistranslated
No lost translation. Issue is what you should be using is an app editor and not a file manager for these operations. Deleting things from apks usually breaks the APK, whether you sign it or not. I edit themes in apks all the time, like in Swiftkey for example, but I do it with an APK editor and not a file manager.

Is there any telegram support channel for MixPlorer I've a lot of question about it 😅😄
No, but there's a Q&A thread:

Your file is partly corrupted and MiX doesn't ignore errors. Your file is probably created or modified by bad tools. You can extract files and rebuild the zip again (with apk extension) to fix it. Tools which are using this method won't have any problem like APK signers or some other archivers.

Now that's the type of explanation I was looking for. Thanks.

... and this explanation speaks directly to my question about the differences between files. Thank you.

[EDIT] BTW, in case the reason for my poking around this was not obvious, I was looking for a way to describe how users could identify when to use a dedicated APK utility and what the expectations are regarding MiXplorer. My take away is: give MiX a try but be prepared to use a dedicated utility, particularly if you are making edits within the file. Thanks again.

There is not much in the FAQ regarding Telegram as I do not use it so you will probably find more answers by searching this thread and asking here.

EDIT D'oh! I thought you were talking about a telegram related shortcut in MiX but you probably meant a telegram channel on which MiXplorer is discussed. I should have reached for my coffee instead of my phone. The FAQ is indeed a good place for such exploration.

I don't think there was a misunderstanding. It seemed clear to me (and probably to others) that you were not requesting the expansion of MiX APK functionality, and that you were exploring the potential of the app but willing to use a dedicated APK tool. I was speaking to it just because I was curious about why it worked in some files and not others.

Cannot Find SMB1 File Server on Windows

I would like to browse my Android's internal storage on Windows via SMB1 protocol. I already enabled SMB1 in Windows Features. When SMB1 server is active, Mixplorer gives an smb://192.168.1.10:4450 address. Naturally, I'd enter this address in Windows Explorer address bar as is or as \\192.168.1.10. I knew this is already problematic because there is no folder share name, something like \\192.168.1.10\share.

I cannot use FTP server. I currently have WSA installed and it won't allow me to navigate across FTP directories in Windows Explorer, giving an error message 'Application not found', whereas I can browse my Linux Samba share folders just fine. It's just a Windows incompatibility issue.

Anyhow, I'd like to know if there is anybody who successfully made SMB1 server work in Mixplorer that allows browsing their Android's internal storage on Windows Explorer.

How to create truly persistent tabs? I want something similar to dual panel FMs with switchable panels. So, I tried to create two tabs and save them. But the tabs get reset after exiting the app through the main menu or after rebooting the phone. They persist only when closing the app using the back button/gesture. Enabling the save tabs at exit option has no effect. I'm using the latest version of MiX on Android 13. How to make this work? The provided options for dual panels don't really suit me, I neither want two panels in landscape mode nor always visible panels in portrait mode.

Feedback about my experience with the built-in media player of MiXplorer_v6.61.7-Beta_B23032310:

While opening more than one audio file (loop all ON), after the first file completes playing, the timer is reset to 0 for the second file, but the duration shown is of the first file. Similarly, after the next file completes playing, the timer is reset to 0, but the duration shown is of the previously played file.

In summary, although the timer is reset to 0, the duration of the audio files is of the previous file; only at the start is it shown correctly. Others might want to compare the time with seconds in the status bar and the progress bar of the media player and test further at their end. Further feedback would be appreciated (by @HootanParsa too, I guess).

Open the tabs you want to be persitent.
Press down arrow on left side of tab bar.
Save tabs.
Now.

Yes, even if I don't mentioned I try to change tint_icon_signs as first. I aslo try to reset > themes as @simonbellu suggest but no luck.
How did I find the properties.xml file?
If MiX was easy, it wouldn't be so powerful and fun! 😉

Here is some info still in my brain that may help you, unless I am confused. 😂

MiX themes are stored in mit files. The mit extension can be renamed to zip to extract and edit them. Among various things in the mit file folder is the properties.xml file.

If you haven't, I recommend searching the Android Themes forum on XDA for "MiXplorer", as there are numerous old threads about theming MiX.

I have found the attached PDF very useful, credit to whoever created it!
    5
Credit for the contents of the theming section of the MiX FAQ goes to @FatalBulletHit who assembled a very nice batch of information, and to the themers and skinners who participate in the threads. I dont play much with themes so without that additional information my version of MiX FAQ Skins and Themes post might simply say, "MiX has themes and skins. Have fun playing with them and please tell me how they work." :D
While we are giving credit where it is due, I would like to thank djdarkknight96 (won't ping him, not sure he is still active) for creating the Pitched Black Green theme, which I made some minor changes to and haven't needed to theme MiX since. 👍

How did I find the properties.xml file?
Tap on the theme.mit file in MiXplorer and select Explore.

Also, in the default theme, tint_icon_signs is commented out:

    <!-- TINT Signs
    <entry key="tint_icon_signs">#f75454</entry> -->

    (MiXplorer.apk/assets/properties.xml)

So resetting themes and using a skin that allows tint_icon_signs to be edited should work.

It is impossible what you said. Reset theme remove the theme folder with all the custom theme resources. After reset theme force close Mixplorer (remove from multitasking background list) then restart and apply some skin. Are you sure your skin is not corrupted??
    5
Thank you, I will take a look tomorrow as I'm bit busy this evening. As I say, all works when I change theme, including icons style, font style etc. except for the color of the icons signs. For example I try this skin. As you can see (in the second screenshot) the default settings is provided with blue color for icons sings. Well, when I install that skin I got red color. Is like some instruction lock the red color for icons signs only.
    @simonbellu yes, is probably corrupetd
You make confusion. The link you privide in this post is not a skin. It is a theme. This is the reason. There is a huge difference between theme and skin. For that reason you have not clearly explained the issue in your previous posts. If you after resetting the theme install another theme you cannot change icon sign color from editor because the theme (properties.xml and drawable folder) override the editor. If you are new you need to learn more about theme and skin. Pheraphs some more details are in the mix faq thread...i am not sure but you can take a look into it.

Actually that's not entirely correct as F-Droid will replace the author's key with their own. They use the same key for each and every app in the repo. If you install any app from their repo, and then download an update directly from the original source, Android will refuse to update and you would need to reinstall the app.

MiX would have the developer's key and not F-Droid's. F-Droid cannot build MiX, it is not open source and the code is not available. The person setting up the repository also cannot build it for the same reason.

The ( terrible, awful ) idea was that someone ( NOT F-Droid themselves, but the person you quote ) wanted to set up a repository mirroring the developer's drive, copying the builds there ( illegally, since this is proprietary software with a license ) to distribute them.

Edit : And you've just proven one of my points. People will be confused and misled about this whole idea, just as you have. Let it die, stop.

    How to rename to:
    1a.jpg
    2c.jpg
    3b.jpg
In Name mode (i.e. not Regex, etc), use %A%N as the name, and %01d in Advanced settings > Incremental number format. Preview available from the drop-down menu next to the name field.

Edit: mind the space at the beginning of the default ' (%...d)' format. %01d is equivalent to %d. The 0 enables 0-padding. The digit(s) after the 0 specifies the minimum length of the resulting increment, padding it with zeros where necessary. Feel free to add any alphanumeric or punctuation characters (except /:\$% and maybe more) before % and after d, e.g. 'Picture %03d — '.

Whats the difference between the Mixplorer APKs WITH and WITHOUT the pattern "API29" in package file name?
The file with "API29" in its name declares itself as using version 29 of the Android API. Sometimes an app that claims it is targetting an older version of the API is allowed to do something that used to be allowed but is no longer allowed.

Use the file that does not mention API. If you have a problem, like being unable to write to an external SD-card, you can try the other version. Or ask here and see if anyone thinks it will help.

As mentioned, the F-Droid server would distribute the very same APKs that are hosted by Hootan on Google Drive, untouched.

Which you'll be easily able to verify, by the way : for sure you already have MiX installed, from the same APKs I'm talking about, i.e. digitally signed by Hootan, which means your device, by secure design, will refuse to install an update that does not carry the same digital signature.

Meanwhile if I maliciously modify the APK, then the signature will be modified as well.

    For more info : https://source.android.com/docs/security/features/apksigning
Actually that's not entirely correct as F-Droid will replace the author's key with their own. They use the same key for each and every app in the repo. If you install any app from their repo, and then download an update directly from the original source, Android will refuse to update and you would need to reinstall the app.

Yes, so I can provide users with a feature : automated updates.
Just like building custom ROMs including proprietary manufacturer blobs, to provide users with system updates beyond official support.
Just like modding apps containing too many ads/paywalls/dark patterns, to provide users with a better usage experience.
All of those things may not be legal, but they are legit.
    And we're doing this voluntarily.

This discussion doesn't look productive though, so I'm going to stop talking for now.
I'll be be back once I'll be able to deliver what I promised, and eventually then read whatever nonsense (or surprisingly constructive) reply you'll send, if any.

    Have a nice day !
It is perfectly possible to get instant updates for MiXplorer (or any other app for that matter) by using Obtainium! It can update your apps from the official (or any other) source directly, such as GitHub/Gitlab/custom F-droid repo's/any HTML page etc.

It will automatically check all available .apks from the configured source and look for the newest version for your architecture. If there is a newer version it will let you know and can update the app. You can even search for any app inside Obtainium and it will automatically search GitHub and then let you pick the right one from a dropdown with results. You only have to do this once per app and then you are set for life.

Obtainium is much faster as you get updates directly from the source and you don't have to wait for e.g. F-droid to sign and put the new version in the repository. Nowadays my updates almost exclusively come from Obtainium and not from Playstore or repo's that always lag behind.

More importantly it is much more secure, and not just because of instantaneous updates. If a third party repo that is distributing multiple self-signed apps gets compromised, so will each one of those apps on your phone, generally giving much wider system access and permissions.

The biggest problem with the F-droid repository is that developers' keys get removed and replaced with F-droid's own key. Thus all apps get signed with the same key. If this ever gets compromised than each single one of the F-droid apps will be. This makes it very attractive for hackers to target such a repository, as they can push updates to millions of users all with the same key.

Downloading from the source avoids this problem as each app will be signed with the developers' own keys, thus even if a malicious actor compromises the source, they would still need the developers' own key or Android will block it. If they only have the key, not control over source, no problem either. There's no single point of failure.

Going after a single developer is much less lucrative, and also harder, because their IP-adress is not publicly linked to the repository (unless self-hosting). Signing happens on a completely different private system, and only the .apk, not the key can be found at the source. In case of F-droid, hackers already know pretty much where they need to penetrate, simply by resolving the URL. The signing happens automatically and continuously on their server as new versions come out.

The app is pretty new, but gaining traction and updates very regularly with new features coming in lightning speed. I haven't had a single app that I couldn't get to work with Obtainium. The only downside is that you'll have to remove any app installed from the F-droid repository and then reinstall with the .apk from the source, as they will have a different key. Removing and reinstalling can be done through Obtainium though.

Upside of using source apk instead of Google Playstore version is that there are no automatically included Google Firebase and other trackers added in without the dev choosing to put it in their build.

Most apps can be found on Github/Gitlab and will be set-up in a few seconds due to their seamless integration(set-up a personal acces token for faster search results). If you're too lazy to confirm / look-up the source for each of your apps you could even import a backup from a user that has already configured all sources (optionally delete any apps from Obtainium that you don't have, and add-in any missing apps).

Of course you can also just add MiXplorer and leave it at that!
