New concern about recycle function in the beta, which the new in-app description of Recycle-Bin speaks to (as it also speaks to some things we were wondering about).
Recycle bin: Uncheck to hide "recycle bin" option. Long press on Delete button moves file(s) to recycle bin, if it is supported.
The wording "uncheck to hide recycle bin option" is consistent with observations shared about the .recycle folder which may exist for other reasons and it is the option alone that is hidden, but the new long press ability has introduce a concern.
- Install beta 6.59.0-beta 23011620.
- Disable Recycle bin.
- Update to 6.59.0-beta 23012110.
- Confirm automatic re-enabling of of recycle bin is occurring.
- Send a file to recycle bin.
- There is no "undo" option (as has been reported).
- In Settings > Buttons > Main Menu "undo" is present but has no checkbox.
- Files can be recovered manually.
- Disable recycle bin, delete the .recycle folder, restart app.
- Select file > delete > OK = As expected file is deleted and does not appear in .recycle folder.
- Select file > long press delete = file goes into .recycle folder (automatically created for this instance).
Even with Recycle Bin disabled, merely long pressing delete when any items are selected will create the .recycle folder structure and move the item into it. The fact that the .recycle folder exists and may be used behind the scenes is not of concern, but if I chose to disable the Recycle Bin then it should not be possible for my files to be sent there. I don't disable recycle bin because I want my data to live dangerously but rather specifically because I don't want it living in another place, ever. To a previously made point this is beta testing which can be messy by design and I've got no complaint about that but I do hope that some of these things are just a passing phase.
"Don't look so frightened, this is just a passing phase, one of my bad days."
Pink Floyd anyone.
