Hi all,
I want to try this app after a long time and notice it didn't work.
How i simply fixed it with one app:

1: Download Total Commander BETA
Direct link: http://ghisler.com/tcbeta.apk
info: https://www.ghisler.com/android.htm
Play Store: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.ghisler.android.TotalCommander

2: Enable ROOT in Total Commander BETA
It doesn't work on Nougat with normal Total Commander that's why beta is needed
Menu (3 dots right top) enable root acces at the bottom.

3: Go to /Root/System/bin/

4: create folder "su"
menu (again the 3 dots), long create folder.
It will give a warning, just press OK.

5: Set the persmissions on the folder:
Long press su, choose properties.
Next choose RWX (see screenshot)
and set the permissions on 744 by selecting the right "V" (see second screenshot).
It can give another warning, just click OK.

6: Now Secure Settings will work and you can Enable System+ Module
After enabling System+ module

7: Remove the created "su" folder:
Open Total commander, go to /Root/System/bin/ and delete the su folder.

Tested after reply under my post and works, even after reboot.

Did the same a while ago.
After that you can (should?) delete your self-created su file again.
For me issues occurred with other apps.

Wonder if someone can tell me what Im doing wrong here. Im using secure settings with Macrodroid (prefer this with tasker).

My issue is, whenever a macro is triggered that uses secure settings (for example, turn on airplane mode), it will launch secure settings in the foreground in order to do it.

Also, if secure settings isnt open in the background (i.e., in recents) and the macro is triggered, nothing will happen.

Any ideas?

The app is dead in the water, no updates in over 3 years. See the title of this thread?

[APP][2.2+][Tasker plugin] Secure Settings - Updated 1/29/14

That is USA date of January 29, 2014 in case you are from somewhere that uses different date formats. ;)

There are alternative that do many of the tasks that Secure Settings does / did, not sure if they do lock screen or not.

Secure Task https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.balda.securetask

Hi
There was a way to do lots of things that formerly required secure settings with tasker with some Java functions but I cannot find how it works any more. IIRC it did not even require root. The author of the autoapps also made an app for that but I do not like to do it this way and would like to find out again how to use it directly (the complicated way). I still have the project in my tasker but lack the explanation how to use it ...

Does anyone know what I am talking about?

Regards

Am I correct in thinking that I could unpack the latest SecureSettings apk and edit the file that specifies the PATH to the su program so that it includes the new location of su and then rebuild the apk.

Would that work?

Good idea, but unfortunately the task is not no change one hardcoded path against another path. SS reads the $path environment variable. May be you can add in the directory array one additional dummy path, where a dummy su file exist?
like $path=$path : /storage/emulated/0/SSdummy

Good luck

If that is true about just using the $PATH variable can't we just export a change to the PATH before executing SecureSettings?

Are you just trying to get it to recognize root? There is a much easier solution. create an empty file called "su" in system/bin and restart.

I am running a SYSTEMLESS ROM so I don't want to put any files into system or it will break OTA updates.

    New feature in Version 1.1.8

With version 1.1.8, Secure Settings can be converted to a system app to get the same functionality as having the Helper installed.

If you wish to move the app to the system, you MUST first disable Device Administrator!
I cannot stress this enough. If you don't do this, the app will break and will be a pain to remove.

Once that's disabled, you can use Titanium Backup to convert the app to a system app.

    OP here.

To all having issues with the latest update:
Please bear with me. I haven't maintained the app in a while and Google was going to remove it due to a single permission that was used.

Rather than let the app be removed, I spent some time trying to get it compatible and clearly broke a bunch of stuff in the process.

I have since made some updates and released a beta and staged rollout. This version should be more functional but likely still buggy. Please opt in if you'd like to test.
