I was also running it on Android 6.0, however I had to stop using after I realize that the audio breaks.
Basically after switching framerate the audio (especially voices on AC3 tracks) gets distorted and there is no way to get it fixed without root as Chainfire stated. Such a shame :(

It's an improvement from audio not working at all...

kidding, of course

I'm thinking of getting a Nexus player. Glad to have come across this thread.

If I'm not wrong this should change the output signal to 24HZ right? If that's right, it's a great feature. It'd be perfect for watching movies. Glad that Android is supporting it. Hope it gets better in future versions.

For people who don't notice a difference even after you change the frequency, have to check your TV's native refresh rate.
On 60hz TVs(which most low end TVs are) your TV would convert the 24Hz signal again to 60Hz doing a 3:2 pull down.
Only exception is a few TVs which support native 24p mode that alters the refresh rate of TV to 24 or 48Hz.
However, on 120Hz TVs, there should be a considerable difference because they don't have to do a pull down. just multiplying signal works 24*5=120Hz. Content should be so much smoother.
If you need more Gyaan on this, I'd recommend reading articles on rtings.com

Not sure if the developer has a Shield TV, but it seems with the latest Marshmallow update there are some issues that I am not sure if it is because of something Nvidia changed, I posted this issue on the Nvidia thread:

After experimenting a bit more with the 3.0 FW I noticed there has been some changes to how refresh rate work.

I was using TVHZ to change between refresh rates before and now I find it is not usable.

It appears the changes via TVHZ are now changing the HDMI settings (Special settings on SATV) too, before 3.0 selection "Application setting" always reverted back to the original 60hz, but not anymore.

This doesn't seem to be a big deal but there are some other issues:

-If you change the refresh rate when the Netflix app is in certain screens (Pause screen, movie details screen), a weird thing happens that when you try to resume Netflix app, it will auto change refresh rate to the previous setting, you need to make sure you select Exit from Netflix app to make sure this doesn't happen screwing the refresh rates.

-If you change the refresh rate via TVHZ (for example to go back to 60hz to use youtube, gaming, etc), for some reason auto refresh rate stops working in Kodi, only solution is to restart SATV.

So in the end if you use both Netflix and Kodi at proper refresh rates, you need to make sure you always change the setting from the HDMI menu, and also when using Netflix make sure you always change it before opening Netflix and exit properly before changing back to 60hz to make sure it doesn't get screwed when you open Netflix again.

Not sure what was the point of these changes but it certainly was more usable on previous FW.
Edit: Actually I just tested this on a Nexus player and seems the behavior is the same, although there is no way to change refresh rate other than with TVHZ there, so this seems to be related to a change with Android M.

Is it just me or the TVHZ stopped working completely. I'm on latest marshmallow build. The frequency is always 60p. Even Kodi fails to change it. Has the functionality been removed from android?!

Looks like with latest Nvidia Shield update 3.2, changing refresh rate with this and via Kodi always changes the Output mode to RGB (now Shield has option for YCbCr444).

Works great on my nexus player with full android MM 1.3 by zulu99!
Audio drops are history with this great app using 60hz with audio fix (root) set on boot.
I´m so glad I found this :D

NP -> Yamaha Receiver -> Panasonic Plasma TV
Works also with Kodi and AC3 5.1 Sound.

I love TVHZ but its keeps crashing after manual switch on me since my Nexus player got Nougat.. deleted, reinstalled, rebooted etc a bunch of times. Think it in some way needs an update. Or my Nexus is busted..

So I've been happily using TVHZ on an Nvidia Shield 2017 (software version 5.2) for months now, because for some reason, the Shield doesn't list 1080p100 or 1080p120 resolutions for me in the video settings. However my TV (LG OLED65C7P) does have native EDID support for 1080p @ 100/120hz, which other devices detect no problem. However, immediately after software version 6.0 update this week, 100hz and 120hz are missing from TVHZ. I have a feeling Nvidia doesn't want to support those refresh rates for some reason, even though I had zero problems running at them.

Is there any way to get those rates listed in TVHZ again?

I'm on the same train, reading and posting in the same threads...

Why is so hard to downgrade this little beast? As I've been reading along the net, everything worked with 5.2 (120Hz, Dolphin emulator, and so on)...

Well, I'l keep an eye on those threads.
