GNow Handlebars

Purpose
Are you tired of flashing Google Now zips only to find out the flash did not work or messed up something unintentionally?
Are you tired of manually installing Google Now components over and over again to find that you some how made a mistake
and need to start over?
Do you not fully understand how to flash zips or manually add files to your system folders?

Well fear no more.

Introducing the first application that can download, install or remove Google Now and restore Google
Search to your phone without the need of flashing zips or manually adding and manipulating the files.

There have been a lot of users with issues installing and uninstalling Google Now for ICS. This is my second solution for those users.

This is only an application that deals with the many different variations of Google Now that were created in this news worthy thread: The Google Now for ICS Project

This application allows users to quickly install Google Now to see if it works for them and if it does not, it allows these users to restore their original Google Search.

This thread is not and will not be about issues with specific modded Google Now apks, go here: The Google Now for ICS Project for that. I have no problem incorporating new apks into the installer. But I will not attempt to deal with issues outside of the installer.

Requirements
Rooted
ICS
Deodexed ROM

Instructions

Before you install Google Now check if voicesearch.apk is installed, if so rename to voicesearch.apk.bak

1. Open app
2. Make a choice ("a" or "b" not both)
a. Install (Install Google Now)
- choose apk
b. Restore (Restore Google Search)
- rename voicesearch.apk.bak to voicesearch.apk
c. Exit

If You Need App Support
Please provide the following info:

Phone
OS
Where you downloaded apk from
What steps you took
What were the results
Are any of the following installed:
Voice search
Velvet.apk
S-voice

Simple, right?

I hope this helps someone.

Change Log

v1.2 (11-4-12)
-- Changed file host
-- Added support for GoogleQuickSearchBox_USA
-- Added support for Velvet

v1.1 (10-4-12)
-- Fixed error calculating system sizes with decimals

v1.0 (10-2-12)
-- Initial

Downloads

Mod Edit: Links removed due to the app containing iffy malware-like advertising, which is detected by most AV software as malicious. This isn't suitable for posting on XDA.

Please read disclaimer before installation.

looks awesome! so what about those of us in the rest of the world that don't have access to the Amazon app store.? I mean, ya i can go through the trouble of dicking around with a market enabler, but i reaaalllly dont want to. Would be awesome if you could either leave a download mirror here, or add it to the play store also.

Cheers for this =)

The play store cost $25 to open a developers account and for a free app, I just don't see that happening.
I need it up on a market that gives me stats on downloads and other info. I'm looking into SlideMe right now.

Unless someone wants to donate the funds to get it up and started.

Update: check OP, the app is available in the SlideMe market

Signed up to the SlideMe market, your link doesn't work and I can't find the app there using search. Still not on Amazon either. Can you please just post it here for now or check your link?

Thanks, looking forward to trying it out.

Update - Access Denied

Actually, the message I'm getting is Access denied.. I tried altering the name on the link and got a diffrent message of Not Found.. meaning the app is apparently on SlideME, but none of us are allowed to access the page to download it..

"Whoops! Access denied...

It seems you do not have access to this page. Do not worry, there are ways to fix this.

If you believe this message to be an error, please tell us what happened when you were trying to access http://slideme.org/application/gnow-handlebars.

You can always hit the back button of your browser to return to the previous page or go to homepage. Maybe you were not supposed to be here in the first place."

This is a great solution...if we could access it. Why not host it and place a link here? Email me the apk and I'll host it.

I can't get it installed. I have tried installing all of the different versions. It downloads successfully and says that it installed successfully, but it doesn't show up anywhere. It's not in my apps list or anything. I have restarted my device and I still can't find it. Am I doing something wrong?

Edit: found the cause, the program caught a NumberFormatException, if you check your logs you should see this message
freeSpace(): Could not parse

The program is unable to parse decimals. I'll need to look into changes this part of the code to work with them.

Check your /system/app folder and look for GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk and report back.

Great Share... Thanks soo much! I had no problem downloading and installing from amazon.

Now are there any thoughts, on the best version of google now?
or which is the most recent/feature rich version? Or is there no difference?

I found the issue, I forgot to change the file host in my app (download limits reached).
Changing now, will update the thread with v 1.2.
