Sunny Cornwall ...
I have a query that is not confined to True Phone but, I believe, applies to most diallers/contact apps. That is, when several contacts have the same main phone number, the one shown in the call log is the one that is nearest to 'A' in the alphabet.

An example, based on my existing contacts but with changed 'names' ... :) I have 'Work' as a contact with a phone number. I also have several contacts at work called, let's say, 'Bob', 'Ted' and 'Alice'. Their phone number is the same as 'Work' but other details are different (we have no extension numbers - just a single number for work/office). If I phone 'Work' I see on the screen 'Calling Alice' ...... and the call log shows I called Alice. I believe this is because of the way the Android API works around phone calls. You call a number and the system comes back with the first contact that has that number.

Now, if 'Work' was calling me then I can understand this happing as my phone would have no idea 'who' was calling me, just 'which number' was calling. However on calling out the app know 'who' I called as well as which number as I pulled up their contact details to place the call. Surely in that situation the app, True Phone in this case, could say 'Calling <correct contact>' .... ?

Am I missing something here? Or could TP implement this if it is possible?

Call recording

There is a simple way to check whether TP is a system app. Go to TP's Settings, scroll down and tap About the app, you should see IDDQD in the dialog.

If you do not see it, it means that TP is not recognised by the OS as a system app.

In this case you need to uninstall magisk module and TP and then use one of the following methods:

1. Install TP
2. Reboot
3. Install magisk module
4. Reboot
5. Check for IDDQD

or

1. Install magisk module
2. Reboot
3. Install TP
4. Reboot
5. Check for IDDQD

Call recording works for me - with both sides of the conversation clearly audible - after following the 2nd method above.

Many thanks to @exisapps for this cool app.

I'm using the latest True Phone release on my rooted Pixel 5 running crDroid-v7.25 (Android 11). It's been working very well for me for at least a year or two, including on earlier Android versions.

However, I have recently encountered an issue ...

I've started using local, phone-only contacts. I turned off contact sync'ing to Google, and I froze the default Contacts app. I now manage all my contacts solely via True Phone, and I periodically back them up in VCF format via True Phone.

Most of the time, this works very well for me, but occasionally True Phone totally stops displaying all of my local, phone-only contacts. When that happens, the True Phone contacts screen becomes completely blank.

I can fix that by going to "Settings=>Contacts=>Contacts to Display" and selecting "Phone, local unsynced".

This causes True Phone to start properly displaying all my local, phone-only contacts again. However, after several days or so, once again True Phone forgets all my local contacts, and I have to repeat this procedure. This keeps happening periodically.

I never reconfigure True Phone and never change any of its configuration. I only use True Phone to select contacts to call by phone. So, I don't believe that I'm doing anything in True Phone that could change its Contacts settings.

Is there any way to make the "Settings=>Contacts=>Contacts to Display=>Phone, local unsynced" setting be permanently sticky, so that I never more will need to periodically reset that setting?

Thank you in advance for any thoughts and suggestions.

Try this: Backup local contacts, then delete all. Launch the system application and create 1 'test' local contact in it. Restore local contacts via True Phone. Delete the 'test' local contact. After that, True Phone will use the local account created by the system application (for the 'test' local contact). Maybe contacts will not disappear thereafter.

I want to make sure I understand. What app are you referring to by "system application"?

If by that you mean the standard "Contacts" app, I won't be able to use it in this way, because starting in Android 11, Google made yet another user-hostile "enhancement" (ha ha!), and they changed the Contacts app to no longer allow local, phone-only contacts. I can only manage contacts with that app which are associated with one or more Google-based accounts.

That's one of the reasons for my freezing the standard Contacts app and choosing a different Contacts Provider (True Phone) which indeed allows local, phone-only contacts.

Or by "system application", do you perhaps mean some other app?

Thank you again.

Hello,

I am just curious.
What is the size of the call history log? I mean, how many calls can be kept in history?

    Hello,
i like this app, i have a question for you.
What is the syntax in the blacklist to be able to block all calls from a country code? (for i.e. +216)
    Is that possible? thank you.
Unfortunately it's not possible. I hope in futures updates

Recommendation: you could put gifs or videos in the contact photos
