As announced on other channels:

Code:
Hey all,

Bit unfortunate but Aurora Accounts are aggressively block by Google, which makes sense as we are growing in numbers. Yayy!!

However we have to take down Dispenser (Anonymous Login Provider) in order safeguard our account.

We're going to take a step back & figure out smarter way to do things.

Will bounce back soon!

Thanks ❤️
Thanks for the heads up and your work!!

Is it safe to use a personal Google account with Aurora Store in a device without access to Google Play or the account can also be blocked or blacklisted by Google?

In theory, there is a risk to be blocked or blacklisted. In practice, no blocks or reports of blacklisted accounts are known.

Just tried on a lollipop vm. Doesn't work. It still requires a number. The number doesn't have to be on the device, but some number in any case. 🫤
Well it works well on my kitkat device, I have my old s3 neo+ running 4.4.2, created over 50 gmails few months ago without being asked for a number at all!l
It also works well on my old huawei y6 pro running android lollipop.
I suggest you try again but make sure to downgrade Google play services and play store , either by uninstalling updates or by force downgrading using root (uninstall them both then download some ancient google play services and store version from apkmirror and then installing them as system apps)

It worked for me. I used a tablet running 4.4.2.
When you try to login on the aurora store it still prompts for adding a phone number but you can work around this by opening accounts.google.com on the old tablet and it will auto sign in if you're using Chrome.
From there you can add a recovery email instead of a phone number and using temp email addresses does work. You can also remove the recovery email once its logged into aurora. As long as you can get the 2 factor code sent to another throwaway email you dont need a phone number.

If its not working on the vm try running 4.4.2. It has to be a version old enough where it uses the old signup form that looks like its part of the Android OS rather than the new one that just basically loads a website.

Thanks but its false. Aurora fetches the app details from said website by using it’s API. The only information that is sent from your device is its country and language to get offers specific to a country and device’s language.

You can check the gplayapi source code for validation as well or next time just ask explicitly by mentioning a developer instead of silently sharing screenshot from a random reddit thread.

So, I created an account on a 4.4 VM and got through that, BUT any login attemps (such as Aurora) request a phone number:

So, no longer a work-around, unfortunately.

Did you add a throwaway recovery email from the VM? (Chrome to accounts.google.com with auto sign-in)
Get the verification code sent to a throwaway recovery email.
Afterward you should be able to remove the recovery email.

Yes, got a code sent to the email for recovery. Still, the alert requiring a phone number. Too many hoops to jump through just to have a gmail 🤦🏻‍♂️

I've noticed that AuroraStore doesn't always get the latest updates that are on play store.

For example:

CellMapper: Aurora v5.5.4 - Play Store v5.6.0
DRM Info: Aurora v1.1.11.230406 - Play Store v1.1.11.230503
PayPal: Aurora v8.40.1 - Play Store v8.41.0

I am able to connect/login and check for updates, and have had some apps update.

Why do some apps show updates in Aurora Store (Anonymous mode) but not in the Play Store (or vice-versa)?

Aurora Store's anonymous mode works by connecting to a random dummy account stored in the token dispenser server. These dummy accounts are created by volunteers from different countries and some by the developer himself. Thus, every account has different locale settings by default according to the location where it was first created.

So next comes the Google Play Update roll-out mechanism. Google doesn't push app updates in one single attempt to all countries users. It's similar to staged updates & needs a lot of server syncing which takes time. Some apps are also blacklisted or restricted in specific countries and for specific devices (geolocked & device-restricted).

So while using Anonymous mode user are randomly connected to an Dummy account with different account locales which alas alters the list of app updates accordingly. Additionally spoof settings can also be able to alter the apps updates list.

Considering this a development site and people are wondering what's going on with links, here are the things:

In Android 12, Google changed the behavior of how "App Links" worked. Rather than showing the dialog box to open the links, they switched to a verification system. With this system, if an app developer is developing an app for his website, he can place a JSON verification file at a path specified in official docs on the server side and declare support for opening the said link within his app. Now when Android installs the app, it checks for the declared links and tries to verify them. If verification is successful (proves the app owner and server owner are the same), it allows the opening of declared links within the said app.

Reference: Android 12 DP3: ‘Verified links’ open directly in apps instead of showing ‘open with’ dialog.
    Reference: Verify Android App Links

Now, Aurora Store is a third-party app, which means that it cannot pass the verification (we don't have access to the Google Play servers to place the required file). However, we can still open the said links (if and only if there is no other app that is verified to open the said links already). This however requires the user to manually enable them. The latest versions of Aurora Store now request users to enable it as you might have seen already.

Now comes the question of which links we want to open. Official docs indicate that if an app developer wants to open the Google Play Store, it must open the play.google.com domain.

    Reference: Linking to Google Play

So, what's with market.android.com domain? That was the OG Play Store app that was deprecated/retired by Google in 2017. I have restored this domain's support (I had removed it in the last versions during refactoring). It is the responsibility of the app developers to update to the new domain.

Worse, the latest version of Aurora Store broke what they had fixed in the prior version ...
by removing (apparently) the option to "Open With..." the Aurora Store from other apps (which use the general market:// calls)... which means something broke in the latest version of the Aurora Store - but what?

These "market://" style intents no longer work from other apps like the Muntashirakon App Manager or the App Finder...
    • market://details?id=com.cunnj.activitylauncher
    • market://details?id=com.trianguloy.instantintent
    • market://details?id=com.villevalta.intentlauncher
    • market://details?id=com.balda.intenttask
    • market://details?id=info.maigo.lab.intentviewer
    • etc.
What happened to Aurora in the latest release?

All I know is any app that passes anything to Aurora Store using the "Open with..." option hoping to have as an option the Aurora Store', in the past three versions of the Aurora Store was...
    1. broken
    2. fixed
    3. broken again
    Note: I'm not a developer...
    • I'm just a typical user
      • Who has no Google Account on my phone
      • (For privacy - that's why)
    • And my Samsung Galaxy A32-5G is unrootable
      • (due to the bootloader version, that's why)
    • Hence... the ONLY way I can get APKs directly off the Google Play Store repo
      • Is to use the venerable Aurora Store to get them!
Where other apps put the venerable Aurora Store as an "Open with..." option... if only the Aurora Store would keep a consistent set of "supported web addresses" (which is a misnomer, by the way).

For example, these apps put the Aurora Store as an "Open With..." option - but only when the Aurora Store uses the market links instead of the (deprecated?) play.google.com (far less useful!) links...
    • App Manager
      • (uses the market:// link, not the [deprecated?] play.google.com:// link)
    • App Finder
      • (also uses the market:// link, not the [deprecated?] play.google.com:// link)
To show more detail... this is how (the previous) Aurora Store DOES (and SHOULD!) show up in other apps that call it!
Unfortunately, this is how the latest Aurora Store (just recently, as of about yesterday!) did NOT show up when called by other apps...

The result (of Aurora Store breaking web addresses in the latest release) is every app that calls Aurora Store with market links, now no longer presents the Aurora Store as an "Open With..." option. :(

Tested 20230917 on Galaxy A32-5G Android 13, App Finder 1.0.16b, Aurora Store v4.3.2(50).

In the past three iterations of the Aurora Store...
    1. Apps calling the Aurora Store using "Open With..."failed
    2. Apps calling the Aurora Store using "Open With..."worked"
    3. Apps calling the Aurora Store using "Open With..."failed again"
I think it all has to do with how the Aurora Store codes the market which controls what apps show up in the "Open With..." menus...
The market links are the more universal option...

Sorry about that. I really am.

Please bear in mind I haven't had a Google Account (or any mothership-tracking account!) on my device in years so I'm very familiar with getting apps using the Aurora Store... but there are a lot of new Aurora Store bugs that I'm trying to explain here... a lot.

Therefore, for others to follow the details correctly....

I'm trying to post in an extremely precise manner because the detailed precise screenshots show multiple brand-new bugs in the latest Aurora Store release from yesterday.
Plus... it might not be obvious to everyone but you'll get COMPLETELY DIFFERENT RESULTS if you use the Aurora Store build from a couple of days ago versus the build from yesterday.

    I repeat for effect:
Aurora Store does COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS in the latest release (versus the prior release!) with respect to opening up
    market:// links
    versus
    play:// links

Bear in mind, if you don't know this - you too will get completely different results!

That's why it's important to be precise here.
(others have to be able to efficiently reproduce the bugs!)

These are newly introduced bugs in the Aurora Store app v4.3.2.50 - which cause not only the Aurora Store to fail to work - but these brand new Aurora Store bugs cause multiple other apps' "Open with..." to fail as a direct result.

Are you sure that what you suggests works WITHOUT any Google Account being set up on the device? (for privacy, that's why)?

I'm trying to faithfully follow your helpful advice!

Can you show me in my sequential screenshots below testing your purposefully helpful advice WHERE the "Open With..." Aurora is supposed to show up in the testing process (for any Android device that has no mothership account whatsoever set up on that device)?

First, let's establish there are no mothership accounts on the device.

Then, let's apply the instructions provided using the following steps...
    1. Just open up a browser to https://play.google.com/store/apps
    2. Find your app (e.g., jphoto)
    3. and open in "venerable" Aurora
      • (as indicated in the post you were pointed to)
Note the status of the venerable Aurora Store isn't stated in those instrucdtions (e.g., we can be completely logged out of Aurora Store)...

Therefore, I must assume that I'm supposed to be already logged into the latest Aurora Store APK v4.3.2(50) using the [email protected] account [which no longer has the market:// style links available (it only has the play:// style links as of yesterday's recent build)]...

And I must assume I have only ONE option in the Aurora Store setup for "supported web addresses" (even though earlier versions provided TWO options!)... so again, you'll get DIFFERENT RESULTS depending on which version of Aurora Store you are testing...

Here I am dutifully opening up the Ungoogled Chromium browser (for privacy, that's why - as Chrome has long ago been deleted from the user partition) to the suggested https://play.google.com/store/apps URL...

And I'll go to the known URL for the desired app...
Which fails to find the app even though the app is definitely on the Google Play Store repository... But I'll just choose to pick the first app that shows up, instead... (since it doesn't matter what APK we test)...

Instead, I search for "Snapseed" (which I know the play store will find) and then I press the "INSTALL" button - which - of course - doesn't work as it requires a Google Account to install from that button.

    Did I do something wrong?

Maybe I was supposed to tap the other button?
    • The one that says "See in Play Store app" instead?
Tapping that "See in Play Store app" button does something completely different... in that it brings up CHOICES, specifically
    • Copy link address
    • Share link
Pressing "Copy link address" puts it into my clipboard as...
Pressing "Share link" provides the following options...

Maybe I missed the Aurora Store option... but I can't see where I'm supposed to go next. Can you help me follow your simple instructions please?

Where is the option for the "Open with..." Aurora Store in the latest build of Aurora Store from GitLab, version 4.3.2(50)?

NOTE: The Aurora Store "Open with..." works COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY using the previous release and the release from yesterday!

Thanks for the reports. A small request from my side, please avoid posting screenshots directly without spoiler tags as they consume a fair amount of space and make it quite hard to navigate the thread's page.

I have hidden existing screenshots posted by you on this page by editing the posts acting as a moderator. Thanks for your understanding.

I don't fully understand that statement but that just means I have to do more research. Remember, I'm no coder. I'm just a normal user.

However, I think the scraper Aurora Store uses might be this one perhaps?
But I'm not sure of that.
    • (I simply assume it's using that scraper).
That statement wasn't for you. It was for people asking for Aurora Store updates via another third-party app called Obtanium that uses scraping to get app updates from official GitHub/GitLab repositories.

Also, the Aurora Store doesn't scrape anything. It uses the official Google Play API reverse-engineered from the Play Store app.
    4
Auroraoss.com blocks web scraping it seems, which I get, but this doesn't allow obtainium to retrieve nightlies. Even stables from gitlab aren't working since packages just links back to the main site now.
    Can this be changed somehow?
I notified the server admin of this issue however I doubt there will be anything done about this anytime soon as one of his close family members passed away today.

I highly suggest using F-Droid builds or just downloading updates from the Website/GitLab using a web browser. There is also always that option to actually use GitLab API nicely instead of scraping. I am sure in some issues Obtanium's developer mentioned that packages are visible in GitLab releases if people use the API key.
