I was thinking the same thing, but assumed that I didn't understand correctly, because that would seem crazy... 😀
I have gone through the source code and it appears that the Emoji font file is provided by Google Play services.

The next version of the app will fetch the Emoji font file by default for the Play store version to be compliant with the new Play store policies and optionally for the GitHub version (you will be able to turn this on or off in the privacy settings).

Marcel is asking us to write/update a 5-star review about the app in the Google Play Store to make the global vote more accurate (even of you installed the GitHub version).

What I would like is that accurate/inaccurate reviews, are voted up/down (there is a thumb up/down for each Play store comment).

Example: THERE ARE NO FOLDERS IN MY POP3 ACCOUNT !!! 1 STAR

Of course not, POP3 is from 1988 when people had an inbox only.

Ah, OK. I thought it meant there was some monthly play store page for users to vote for their top ten apps out of some list or something I wasn't seeing.

What are tracker protection lists?
What happens if I select to use them?
Thank you.

Another example:
First email I tried fails to log in to.
Maybe there was a typo in the password, or an app password was needed, etc.

No, of course not, the app is to blame! 1 star! The developer is an @#*¢%! and doesn't deserve any chance.

It is so easy to rate 1 star and so hard to develop an app like this :-(

Google:
Your Data safety form is ready for you to fill out.

Me: that's easy, just tick that my apps do not collect data and save. Ready!

I think this data safety form is a good thing because all Android developers are required to specify which data their apps collect in detail, including examples.

Meta wil have a lot of work to do filling out this form ...

@M66B I think there's is a small inconsistency with the dark Material You theme. The background color (behind the cards when you swipe them) isn't the same as the date decorator, which is otherwise always the case on the other themes I've tried, including the light Material You theme. It seems a bit odd like this especially when sweeping cards away. Is this intended?

Can you please send me a screenshot by email showing what you mean?
For me it looks good, but maybe I am missing something?

Sorry Marcel and everyone, it's a mistake on my end. I customized the header color a long time ago on my personal builds and forgot about it since it was the same color as the background color for the solarized theme, which I used pretty much all the time.

Thank you Marcel for the continued and lightning fast support (even helping dumb people with their own bugs :D).

@mkasimd since I believe local contacts can better be retained disabled instead of deleted, the next version will cycle through favorite, never favorite and normale contact state on tapping on a local contact.

Multiple select is a bit overdone for this list IMHO, also because most people will use the Android address book.

In addition, it will be possible to search from the local contact popup to refresh your memory why you blocked a contact, etc.

Version 1.1769 is available on GitHub now and in the Play store test program after Google's approval.

You are advised to update to this version, unless you like drafts being left in the drafts folder
But saved drafts that are supposed to stay in the drafts folder will not be removed? Because I use the drafts folder as sort of an online scrapbook.

Version 1.1784 is available on GitHub now.

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

To try the new "remove widths" option for original messages, you can switch to the original message view and long press the button for the original message view for a popup menu.

If you sync twice within 30 seconds, all messages within the keep window will be synchronized the second time now.

About next year: The app will keep being maintained and supported, but I will gradually take more distance from this project and shift focus to other less public things. When people say "very good" or even "excellent" and rate 3 or 4 stars, there is not really an incentive to try to improve the app anymore. IMHO the app is already very complete and pretty stable anyway. So, what's more to ask for?

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

Besides a series of small improvements and minor bug fixes two new display options were added:
    • An option for a double width color stripe
    • An option to change the unread shadow color from the accent color to the selected highlight color

If no blocking errors will be reported, this version will be released publicly in the Play store today.

The latest version has been made publicly available in the Play store, pending Google's approval.

Reading the Play store reviews of today makes clear again that the app won't be good enough ever.

I will keep maintaining and supporting the app and there will probably be improvements and new features, but strictly only if they are beneficial to a significant number of people or myself.

It is time for a new, modern, open source, privacy friendly email client for Android.

I have just released a first alpha version for feedback on the design and features.

    Not for production use yet!

Most of the stuff basically works, but be prepared for crashes and error notifications.

Safe email is a working name, but it is for several reasons not a convenient name, so suggestions for a name are welcome.

I have just released alpha version 0.15

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/open-source-email/releases

With a bit of luck the next version can be a beta version.

I am putting a lot of effort into this project, so thanks are appreciated.

I have just released alpha version 0.10

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/open-source-email/releases

I have put many hours into developing and debugging this release, so thanks are appreciated.

This version is still not suitable for production, but all basic functions are present now. The goal is now to stabilize this version into a first beta release, so please let me hear what problems you have.

Edit: due to database changes you'll need to setup your accounts/identities again.

I have just released beta version 1.745

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

The changelog might seem uninteresting, but in fact displaying messages has been rewritten to introduce inline displaying of original messages. I spent about two days developing and testing this, so at least a "thanks" will be appreciated.

Some background: normally the web view cannot be used in a scrolling list (of messages in a conversation) and although there exist several workarounds for this, none were satisfactory. However, I had a completely novel idea (as far as I know) about how to approach this without the usual edge cases (hopefully) !

To do: investigate if using a dark background is feasible (setting the background dark is simple, but the challenge is to modify the message so that everything is still readable). I will consider to add an option to always display original messages.

Please report any problem you discover, so it can be fixed.
