@M66B

I think I got the pro version pretty much after I read about the app here on xda.
Really happy ever since. I think I also convinced a few friends and relatives, but dont really know if the heard my advice ;-)

Anyways, I am *incredibly* happy with the app and think I only got support once for activating the pro.

please continue developing this. It is maybe my most needed app.

Receiving a notification this morning Version 1.1900 is available on Github i was very happy to see you regained the
motivation for an update.
This whole situation made a lot of people speak up and support you. For every 1☆ rewiew in the playstore there are probably a 1000 (or more)people who like Fairmail.
Maybe this whole thing happening was not that bad and maybe even necessary.

As a great Dutchman used to say:

You are likely trying to install the GitHub version as an update over the F-Droid version. This isn't possible because the digital signature is different.

Thanks Marcel

So what's the best way to install the new version without losing my settings and configuration?

Or should I just wait until the new version is pushed to F-Droid?

Lots of happy people on reddit and discord because you are back developing and 5* reviews are pouring in on Google :)

You can either wait for a new F-Droid build, or uninstall the F-Droid build and install the GitHub release.

If you have the PRO version, then proceed as follows:

- Export settings
- Uninstall F-Droid version
- Install GitHub version
- Import settings

Edit: [Oh, I was to slowly..., Marcel, you must not reply so quickly :) ]

Hello @M66B

I just wanted to thank you for your amazing job! I'm a PRO user since 2020 and I don't now what else would I be using if FairEmail disappeared. I always used FairEmail from Github or F-Droid so now I can't see the app on the Play Store but once Google approves it again I will go there to give you 5 stars and also I will donate again, you deserve it.

Best wishes to you and your loved ones

I would keep a backup of the export so if you need it for a future use. I make a export anytime I make any major changes to the settings or if I know I'm getting a new device or wiping the device I make a export as well. This way I have the settings and the accounts for whenever I may need them. I have nine email accounts but only really use two of them.

When switching from Play Store build to F-Droid build, can I transfer my license? Bought via Play Store, but also donated to you via bank transfer in the past (not for pro features, just a normal donation).

As you might continue that project now (thanks for that!), I guess it might be better to avoid Play Store from now on?

You can't use a Play store purchase without the Play store, in any case I can't support his (Play store policies).

Regarding the bank transfer, please contact me via here:

As an XDA moderator recently pointed out, this XDA thread is supposed to be about the free version of the app.

(German) 1* reviews like this "Spyware" do not really help to let the app return in the Play store, which is at this moment still undecided.

Congratulations Marcel, Fairmail is famous:giggle::giggle:
I prefer "normal", so I can start developing again, which is at this moment hard given the sheer volume of messages I receive (including press inquiries, that is). What I want to do for myself, to satisfy my perfectionist nature, LOL, and to create opportunities for new features, is to write a new styled text to HTML converter. Currently, the app ships a modified copy of the Android converter , but this is not really ideal. In fact the latest version added some more "hacks" to fix some, but not all, bullet/number lists issues.

Your old and grumpy developer aka drama queen.

Someone else mentioned in this community (I can't remember who it was) that you might want to have someone else handling the communication and you the developing. This way you don't become so overwhelmed.

Marcel should make it something like the K9 or AquaMail forum where users help each other out and the developer only steps in a couple of days in a week or if there is a critical issue that no one else can answer.

So here is a suggestion for a new feature, I think it would be very useful, thank you for your availability
You are the first one ever asked for this and besides that I think it will be confusing in combination of the existing collapse/expand.
    3
I explain the reason for the suggestion, the folders I have to add are not many but they are enough so that the other accounts below are out of the visible area of the screen, so whenever I want to check what is going on with one of those accounts I have to scroll down, with the expand and collapse option I could quickly bring the other accounts to the visible area of the screen
Try to collapse the accounts section once.
    3
Problem solved with this suggestion, although I think the accounts collapse and expand would be a better implementation, I don't know how people can find this confusing, I'm not young anymore, I'm over 50 and this is the option that seems intuitive to me, again, thanks for your patience and support
    :)

    I might be older ;-)

Hi, I'm the guy who talked to you on Saturday about switching from PlayStore Pro account to Ghithub version, all flawless with the app, I'd just like to make a suggestion if it's considered a good idea, in the side tab when you click on an account it opens in full screen window with the folder list, would it be possible to make it so that when you click on the account it expands the folder list of that account in the sidebar and another click to collapse?
I guess you'll want to enable two column mode in the display settings.
    2
I know about that option but that's not what I was referring to, I was referring to the folders appearing under the account name on the left side
Some people have thousands of folders dozens of levels deep, which will let some other email apps crash. Mostly, people are interested in a few folders only anyway. Therefore you can manually add folders to the navigation menu by long pressing a folder in the folder list and create your own shortlist.

Note that you can double collapse/expand the accounts section in the navigation menu, first the folders and after that the accounts.

The option to suppress notifications while on a call (recently added) has been replaced by delaying notifications until after having ended the call instead. This way there isn't a risk that important new messages will be missed or seen too late. This option is available on Android 12 and later only because earlier Android versions do not have the requires APIs.

Quite some people asked my opinion about Thunderbird / K9 mail joining.

I wish them good luck because we need privacy friendly apps. The author of K9 mail seems a nice guy to me, and even contributed a few lines of code and some constructive feedback to FairEmail. I hope he'll find a nice place in the Mozilla organization.

That said, the concept of FairEmail is somewhat different than of Thunderbird / K9 mail. One of the things I read about is deep integration between the Thunderbird desktop / mobile app. The concept of FairEmail is to be standalone and not to depend on any service. Maybe in some way the apps are competitors, depending on the way you look at them, but in the end the goal is similar, offering a decent and privacy friendly app, at least I hope that this keeps being the goal of Mozilla. Of course a lot more can be said, but the apps just have a different character, which you might or might not like.

How was the call with Google today, Marcel?

Google was pretty friendly and cooperative and told me the favicons are indeed the problem, and it can/should be fixed by updating in the privacy policy to "disclose how your app accesses, collects, uses, and shares user data":

    Privacy Policy

All apps must post a privacy policy in both the designated field in Play Console and within the app itself. The privacy policy must, together with any in-app disclosures, comprehensively disclose how your app accesses, collects, uses, and shares user data, not limited by the data disclosed in the Data Safety section. This must include:
    • developer information and a privacy point of contact or a mechanism to submit inquiries
    • disclosing the types of personal and sensitive user data your app accesses, collects, uses, and shares; and any parties with which any personal or sensitive user data is shared
    • secure data handling procedures for personal and sensitive user data
    • the developer’s data retention and deletion policy
    • clear labeling as a privacy policy (e.g., listed as “privacy policy” in title)
The entity (e.g., developer, company) named in the app’s Google Play listing must appear in the privacy policy or the app must be named in the privacy policy. Apps that do not access any personal and sensitive user data must still submit a privacy policy.

Please make sure your privacy policy is available on an active URL (no PDFs) and is non-editable.

So, I have updated the privacy policy and added this new table:

    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/blob/master/PRIVACY.md#summary-of-shared-data

I am not sure if it covers everything, so feedback is more than welcome. @mkasimd maybe you can take a look?

Note that I have also enabled BIMI, Gravatars, Libravatars and favicons for the Play store version again.

The short term goal is to release a Play store test version (and associated GitHub version) and to get the update approved. I will think about the next steps after this has been accomplished. Given the huge number of supportive messages I received (much appreciated!) the project will be continued in some form in any case.

It is time for a new, modern, open source, privacy friendly email client for Android.

I have just released a first alpha version for feedback on the design and features.

    Not for production use yet!

Most of the stuff basically works, but be prepared for crashes and error notifications.

Safe email is a working name, but it is for several reasons not a convenient name, so suggestions for a name are welcome.
    37
I have just released alpha version 0.15

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/open-source-email/releases

With a bit of luck the next version can be a beta version.

I am putting a lot of effort into this project, so thanks are appreciated.
