Yes, the subject shows the recipient what happened before.
Doesn't it make sense to keep at most two indicators, meaning:

Re: Fwd: subject -> Re: Fwd: subject (response) OR Fwd: Re subject (forward)
Fwd: Re: subject -> Re: Fwd: subject (response) OR Fwd: Re subject (forward)

Especially the case AW: AW: AW: AW: -> Fwd: Aw: Aw: Aw: (forward) makes no sense, it should be just Fwd: Aw: or Fwd: Re:.

That method keep the context sufficiently, but won't result in recursive indicators which would give even lesser overview in the worst case.

My main concern is losing information.

If you reply to a forwarded message or the other way around, the indication that the message was forwarded or reply-to before is lost.

I can understand that concern - let's try with the examples I used before (see comparison there):

Original subjectoptimal output when replyingoptimal output when forwarding
Fwd: Fwd: WG:Re: Fwd:Fwd:
AW: WG:Re: Fwd:?
AW: AW: AW: AW:Re:Fwd: Re:
Fwd: WG:Re: Fwd:Fwd:
Re: Fwd:Re: Fwd:? Fwd: Re: Fwd:
WG:Re: Fwd:Fwd:

I think it does make sense to replace these things when the same prefix appears twice or more often after each other, it also makes sence to count Fwd: and WG: as duplicate.

The cases that are unclear in this case: If I forwared a reply to a forwarded message, should this be left as "Fwd: Re: Fwd"?

I have to come back to the prefixes in the subject, Marcel. It is undisputed that this gives you a small information advantage over the knowledge gained from the mail text. But this information advantage is actually only useful if it results in different actions, e.g. you are more likely to delete answered forwardings or forwarded replies immediately or read them less often or later than mails without these prefixes. I can't imagine that you (or anyone) makes the further handling of a mail dependent on these prefixes. Here, in any case, it is decided on the basis of completely different criteria whether a mail is deleted, moved, read immediately or later.

Hi what’s the difference between playstore eddit and GitHub edition? I have paid on play store for pro . Is it worth to switch to GitHub edition for some extra features? And if so will I retain my pro license? Thank you

There is basically no difference.

You can't use Play store purchases outside of the Play store. The Play store rules do not allow this as well.

Hi, cool new Feature to make the notes more prominent. Appreciate it.

By applying this to an email I realised following: I copied an email to to be located in two different folders. A color change in the note did not only affect the changed email but also the copied one. Is the copy only a reference or a real copy?

The copy is a real copy, but notes and colors will be applied to messages with the same message ID.

@M66B, can you help me please to point me to correct direction, as i don't know how to add a second sender email to an existing rule? It is possible this? Anything i have tried, don't work.

You can either use a regex (see the FAQ) or copy the rule and change the email address. The latter is simpler to maintain and less error prone.

You can copy a rule by long pressing it in the list.

The most used folders are showing only a few characters and are abbreviated with... In this constellation I don't find it useful. Are there any other opinions?
Could you limit the number of suggestions to two if a string is too much shortened? Or list them below each other?

I could reduce the number to two, but listing them below each other is IMHO not a option because of the space it will take. This is the whole reason I have been hesitant to add this feature from the beginning. It is fine if you have a bigger screen and less nice if you have a smaller screen.

Version 1.1661 is available on GitHub now and in the Play store test program after Google's approval.

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

It is possible to select what to import now.

Did you know that FairEmail will send the first email to an Indian email address? At least this is what is being said in a recent German 1 star Play store review (some voting down would be appreciated).

    Hi,

Can't see that in my store version, but done a good down vote session for the occasion : o ]

The comments are still very good for what I can see !

Thanks again Marcel - I'll try to send a few donation as soon as I can and plan to do it every year.
You deserve it, far more then a lot of others, a lot...
I don't understand people who bought a phone for hundreds even thousands money worth, but still able to complain for the best free app ever.

I use 5 things every day on my phone :
    (0. vpn - netguard)
    1. Keyboard
    2. Contact/call
    3. Email
    4. Calendar
    5. Messaging app

The others is not mandatory (not every day).

If one day you feel to start a keyboard project, with your philosophy, I could donate a lot (as I can't help with code).

Take some rest - be well

Thanks. Actually, I am having a little holiday being in Corona safer Germany (compared to the Netherlands).

    Dears

K am using fair email pro with an IMAP account. It seems as if messages older than 30d are being deleted.
I dont want messages to be deleted automatcally. I want to delete them by myself.

Is there somewhere a setting specifying when to delete IMAP messages?

    Tnx!
In the three dots menu selecting to fetch more messages is the simplest solution for this.

The messages are removed from the device only, not from the email server.

I think most of us lovers of FairEmail are worried about the same thing.
Unlike AquaMail, FairEmail is open source.

Besides that I am a fan of my own app ;-)

Version 1.1646 is available on GitHub now and in the Play store test program after Google's approval.

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

A notable addition is support for Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI), which you can enable in the display settings. When there is a BIMI DNS record and SPF, DKIM and DMARC are passing, a check mark will be shown before the sender's name. This will work for for example Booking.com.

    Some background information:

Version 1.1638 is available on GitHub (only) now.

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

You can enable showing background colors in the display settings (edit: for the reformatted message view). Please let me know how your messages look like with this enabled. Is it an improvement or not?

You can also compose messages and set a background color via the text styling options.

It is time for a new, modern, open source, privacy friendly email client for Android.

I have just released a first alpha version for feedback on the design and features.

    Not for production use yet!

Most of the stuff basically works, but be prepared for crashes and error notifications.

Safe email is a working name, but it is for several reasons not a convenient name, so suggestions for a name are welcome.

I have just released alpha version 0.15

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/open-source-email/releases

With a bit of luck the next version can be a beta version.

I am putting a lot of effort into this project, so thanks are appreciated.

I have just released alpha version 0.10

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/open-source-email/releases

I have put many hours into developing and debugging this release, so thanks are appreciated.

This version is still not suitable for production, but all basic functions are present now. The goal is now to stabilize this version into a first beta release, so please let me hear what problems you have.

Edit: due to database changes you'll need to setup your accounts/identities again.

I have just released beta version 1.745

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

The changelog might seem uninteresting, but in fact displaying messages has been rewritten to introduce inline displaying of original messages. I spent about two days developing and testing this, so at least a "thanks" will be appreciated.

Some background: normally the web view cannot be used in a scrolling list (of messages in a conversation) and although there exist several workarounds for this, none were satisfactory. However, I had a completely novel idea (as far as I know) about how to approach this without the usual edge cases (hopefully) !

To do: investigate if using a dark background is feasible (setting the background dark is simple, but the challenge is to modify the message so that everything is still readable). I will consider to add an option to always display original messages.

Please report any problem you discover, so it can be fixed.
