Hi. Looking for a new email app to change to from BlueMail, I'm trying out FairEmail. Still struggling to understand all the options and how to get everything working the way I want, but it's looking very good so far. One odd thing jumped out of the message list after I hooked up two of my accounts that just has me curious. Like BlueMail, FairEmail shows (after I turned it on) favicons by most senders, and mostly BlueMail and FairEmail show or don't show favicons for the same senders - except for one very notable difference: FairEmail does not show a favicon for emails from Microsoft, while BlueMail does. How come FairEmail can't get the Microsoft favicon?

Anyway, good job with the app. FairEmail is one of the two finalists out of a lot I've been trying for email app for me to change to, and I'm inclining toward it over the other so you may be getting a Pro purchase soon.
Can you please use 'Report issue' in the navigation menu and send me a raw message file of an example message? You can save a raw message file via the horizontal three dots menu just above the message text.

Edit: there is an avatar for @outlook.com and @msn.com email addresses, so maybe you mean another Microsoft address?

I have installed this app as a replacement of K9 and it is awesome. But I cannot delete more than 10 (!) messages at once.

How can I delete all items in the trash ?

There appears to be a hardcoded limit of 10 messages, so when cleaning up a trash of 100 messages, one has to repeat this action ten times ?

if you select the folder icon at the top and then select the trash folder , there will be a trash can icon at the top of the page. click on it and then select "empty trash".

Version 1.1587 1.1588 is available on GitHub now and in the Play store test program after Google's approval.

Changelog/download:
https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

Text styles (size, color, font, etc) will be extended now if a new selection (partly) overlaps an existing style. Please let me know if you find any edge case. Examples with bold (red = selection):

Test test test test test - extend start
Test test test test test - extend end
Test test test test test - extend all
Test test test test test - remove inner

Permanent deletion is unlimited now, but needs to be double confirmed now. Please see here about why:

I have a question regarding avatar pictures of senders. Can I enable that a picture of the sender is shown, at least for people which have a picture assigned in the contact list?

I was using the XDA version and decided to change to the Playstore version. I had purchased Pro for both versions. I exported my settings from XDA and then imported them into the Playstore version.
Everything seems to be working except widgets. The widgets do not work and have a question mark.

What have I done wrong?

Android manages widgets and sometimes just loses track, which is one of the many Android bugs. Try adding the widgets again.

I removed and added them several times, with different accounts and still not working.

I looked through FAQ and search this thread for 'exit' but there was only one post from years ago, so my really simple and stupid question:

How do I exit this app/How do I close this app?

I do not want to have it run most of the time, since I use POP3 anyway with my desktop PC, so I only want to use FairEmail like once a week (via IMAP) and not have it run all the time for nothing. I'm ok with it restarting on reboot, that is no issue.

Just disable receiving in the receive settings and you can synchronize manually.

A question mark means that a widget wasn't updated. Try to refresh the messages list.
I went to the app information, deleted all storage and then the app itself. After reinstalling the app, I added a Gmail account, imported my settings and added the widgets.

All works again.

Well the thing is, I like automatic synchronization, but I don't need it most of the time.
Example: I leave the house for some hours and I want automatic sync. But at home again I want to shut down the app for the next few days so I don't see the notification all the time and it pulling mails for no reason.
This is why I thought maybe an "exit" button in the hamburger menu would be neat, since it's much quicker to access(?) Maybe with a mandatory message box informing the user that this will stop sync if you are think people might expect sync to continue working.

Generally, Android apps do not work like this.

There is a widget to quickly enable/disable sync. Alternatively, there is a settings tile for the same.

Hello everybody. I have searched the settings and also searched here in the thread but I cannot find a setting that allows the date to be permanently displayed in the message overview when scrolling. Is there a possibility or could it at least be included as a suggestion?

I make some requests on some features that I would like to be present in FairEmail: maybe they already are there and I don't know how to set them!

    1) To select one or more messages, I must use long pressure for the first message and then a single tap for other messages. Would it be possible to introduce a sort of quick selection by tapping on the icon to the left of the message?
    View attachment 5345837

    2) When one or more messages are selected, this button / menu is activated:
    View attachment 5345841
From this I can access the possible actions that can be applied to the selected messages. Would it be possible to introduce a bar with 2 or 3 actions similar to this one?
    View attachment 5345843
A sort of "quick action bar"...
It would be nice if the actions in the bar were user configurable.
This would allow you to apply actions quickly "saving" a tap ...
    Thanks for your attention.
Tapping the contact icon already navigates to the contact info (if available). Also, multiple selection works generally this way, which is what people are used to.

A navigation bar would take space from the messages list, which I think is not nice of you are selecting multiple messages. Moreover, the possible actions depend on the selected messages (folder, accounts, etc) and this can't be evaluated in real-time because this would could cause stuttering, which is why this is done on tapping the action button only.
    2
The "quick action bar" should only appear after selecting one or more messages (just like with the current button).
Also, if the bar were to hide an element, the list would still remain scrollable, as it currently is.
Finally the bar that I showed in my previous post (which is the one that FairEmail displays in a message) in my mobile is very thin and does not take up much space.

My request was for the messages list in one folder, not all other lists.
The actions I have in mind (move to trash, mark as read, ...) should be applicable to all selected messages...
Move to trash is available only when there is a trash folder. The POP3 protocol can access the inbox only for example. The folder you are in determines the actions too. Generally, this is not as simple as you might think.

tl;d;r there are good reasons why it is like it is. In fact, changing this would mean removing features.

Besides that, the the navigation bar would take vertical space as already explained.

There is a new receive option (default disabled) to check if the domain name of the from / reply-to addresses is on a spam block list (for now Spamhaus/zen only). If this is the case, there will be a little warning flag in the message header (the same as for message authentication problems, etc).

It is time for a new, modern, open source, privacy friendly email client for Android.

I have just released a first alpha version for feedback on the design and features.

    Not for production use yet!

Most of the stuff basically works, but be prepared for crashes and error notifications.

Safe email is a working name, but it is for several reasons not a convenient name, so suggestions for a name are welcome.

With a bit of luck the next version can be a beta version.

I am putting a lot of effort into this project, so thanks are appreciated.

I have put many hours into developing and debugging this release, so thanks are appreciated.

This version is still not suitable for production, but all basic functions are present now. The goal is now to stabilize this version into a first beta release, so please let me hear what problems you have.

Edit: due to database changes you'll need to setup your accounts/identities again.

I have just released beta version 1.745

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

The changelog might seem uninteresting, but in fact displaying messages has been rewritten to introduce inline displaying of original messages. I spent about two days developing and testing this, so at least a "thanks" will be appreciated.

Some background: normally the web view cannot be used in a scrolling list (of messages in a conversation) and although there exist several workarounds for this, none were satisfactory. However, I had a completely novel idea (as far as I know) about how to approach this without the usual edge cases (hopefully) !

To do: investigate if using a dark background is feasible (setting the background dark is simple, but the challenge is to modify the message so that everything is still readable). I will consider to add an option to always display original messages.

Please report any problem you discover, so it can be fixed.
