The card layout is beige even when beige is not set and the settings are beige even when table layout is set in version 1.1628. Is this intended?
I'm testing the solarized theme.

This isn't beige (cosmic latte in fact), but more the 'paper' color of Solarized (Base3 color).

The 'beige' color settings is ignored for Solarized when using cards because the cards itself are already 'paper' color, which would be to similar to the beige background color.

When using the table layout, you can use the new setting 'Use card color as background color when using tabular style' to select if you want 'paper' background or a white background.

But the settings are still with the 'paper' background, when
'Use card color as background color when using tabular style' is off and the background in for example the unified inbox is white.

I am not sure what your settings are anymore.

Which theme is this about? I assume Solarized?
Are you using the card or tabular layout?
Is 'beige' enabled?
Is 'Use card color as background color when using tabular style' enabled or disabled?

Which background are you seeing and which one did you expect?

Solarized theme.
Tabular layout.
'beige' disabled.
'Use card color as background color when using tabular style' disabled.
I had expected to see a white background in the settings (in the sections), because the background was white in the unified inbox too.

I have a pure white background with these settings (I am assuming Solarized light).

Are you using the latest GitHub version?

Version 1.1629 is available on GitHub now.

Changelog/download:
https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

In the button configuration menu you can add a translate button to translate the text of received messages paragraph by paragraph. Note that experimental features need to be enabled in the miscellaneous settings for this.

I registered at DeepL and obtained the configuration key.
I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but I will soon.
I would like to know what you think about introducing a similar button also in a received message and not only a message that is being composed.
I guess especially for complex html-formatted messages it's not so easy to handle, but maybe for text-only emails a translation button could be very useful...

I found the translate button only in the message composing window.
I will look for the new button!

Open/expand a message, tap on the horizontal three dots, select to configure the buttons and you can enable translation for received messages.

Little secret: you can long press the translate button to see the usage statistics.

I have enabled the experimental features in Settings-Miscellaneous.
But when I open a message and press the 3 horizontal dots, I can't find the translation button...
I'm on the last 1.1629 GitHub version.

Version 1.1732 is available on GitHub now.

If you like, you can try version 1.1732b, which adds saved searches.

    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

This is not finished and extensive tested yet, but seems to work fine. I need to do other things first and will later continue with this. There should be something to set a name for saved searches and possible a color for the iconified navigation menu.

There will be no update notification for this version.

    Edit:
    • Save: at the bottom of the search dialog
    • Delete: long press the saved search in the navigation menu

Maybe 'save' should be moved to the 'search more' button.

I don't normally use the share option. Testing revealed such:
    • Most cases: 44 apps are offered, always including Tasks and Open Task
    • Messages with 2 or more attachments: 20 apps are offered; Tasks and Open Tasks are not there.
    • Some messages (long message text): ↻ appears the middle, after a few seconds a error message appears: "Failure from system data parcel size 1228460 bytes"; the message has approx. 330 kB as raw data.
Messages with multiple attachments will use the intent action ACTION_SEND_MULTIPLE instead of ACTION_SEND. It seems not all apps accept ACTION_SEND_MULTIPLE though.

I will truncate the text in the next version to something Android can handle.

Thanks @M66B you are a god amongst men.
I don't think this is correct: I am not feeling very good today (just a bad day) and I guess gods would feel good always.

    Anyway:

Since the last few versions of FairEmail, the button under About that takes one straight to the releases page on GitHub has been removed.

Was there a particular reason for that? Updating is considerably more awkward now.

Perhaps the button has merely moved to another location in the app, but I have searched and not found it. Nor did I find a posting about it in this thread, but apologies if I missed one.
It is back in the latest version ...

Version 1.1719 is available on GitHub now and in the Play store test program after Google's approval.

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

Like most previous recent releases this is a maintenance release. There is one new feature: tapping on the folder name in the message header when viewing a conversation/message will navigate to the folder. This feature is not available in the Play store version yet.

Version 1.1720 is available on GitHub now.

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

Tapping on the folder name in conversation threads has been changed into long pressing the folder name to prevent interference with expanding/collapsing messages.

Version 1.1721 is available on GitHub now.

This is mostly a maintenance release. Sophos Email Appliance links will be decoded now, so you can see which link you'll open, avoiding the proxy server. Some businesses use this. Note that this can be used to track you too.

It is time for a new, modern, open source, privacy friendly email client for Android.

I have just released a first alpha version for feedback on the design and features.

    Not for production use yet!

Most of the stuff basically works, but be prepared for crashes and error notifications.

Safe email is a working name, but it is for several reasons not a convenient name, so suggestions for a name are welcome.

I have just released alpha version 0.15

    Changelog/download:

With a bit of luck the next version can be a beta version.

I am putting a lot of effort into this project, so thanks are appreciated.

I have just released alpha version 0.10

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/open-source-email/releases

I have put many hours into developing and debugging this release, so thanks are appreciated.

This version is still not suitable for production, but all basic functions are present now. The goal is now to stabilize this version into a first beta release, so please let me hear what problems you have.

Edit: due to database changes you'll need to setup your accounts/identities again.

I have just released beta version 1.745

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

The changelog might seem uninteresting, but in fact displaying messages has been rewritten to introduce inline displaying of original messages. I spent about two days developing and testing this, so at least a "thanks" will be appreciated.

Some background: normally the web view cannot be used in a scrolling list (of messages in a conversation) and although there exist several workarounds for this, none were satisfactory. However, I had a completely novel idea (as far as I know) about how to approach this without the usual edge cases (hopefully) !

To do: investigate if using a dark background is feasible (setting the background dark is simple, but the challenge is to modify the message so that everything is still readable). I will consider to add an option to always display original messages.

Please report any problem you discover, so it can be fixed.
