Cool. Thank you. I am wondering sometimes how you manage to be that fast in fixing that issues and delivering the solution to your customers. That's amazing. In my organisation, Software developers need sometimes several days just to reproduce a problem.

Would you like to share the boundary conditions which needs to be fulfilled for that bug (since some had it and some not)

New message notifications will be suppressed for messages older than the account creation time to prevent a massive amount of new message notifications on configuring a new account. There is now an exception for unsnoozed messages.

Hey @M66B I noticed that the prev/next arrows in the actionbar have been reversed (left arrow goes to next and right arrow goes to previous). Was that intended?

I feel like the old way was more natural (left for previous, right for next).

That wasn't intended and I will check what the reason is. For now you can reverse the navigation direction in the settings.

Maybe I missed the obvious, however, is there any option to open URL in an external (standard) browser?

Next question: does Fairemail have an option to set the color of my device's notification Led as others apps can?

Last one: when receiving community emails from Steam, I tried to click on any link or picture that should lead me to Steams store webpage, this does not work. Maybe I've confirmed any option anytime before or FE prevents opening the website. At least, after clicking on one of those embedded images, for a second or so, FE tries to do something but immediately returns to the appropriate email. So, can I verify somehow any previously made choices and revert them back, if applicable?

You can use 'Open with' instead of 'OK' to hand over a link to Android to select the app to use to open a link. If you selected 'Open always with', this will be used by Android. There are several articles on the internet explaining how you can undo this.

Apps cannot change the color of notifications anymore. You'll have to do this in the notification settings of Android (tap on the second button in the notification settings of Android). Some apps create a notification channel for each color, but for FairEmail that's not an option considering that there can be notification channels for accounts, folders and senders. This would get unmanageable soon.

I am not sure what the problem with Steam links is. The open link dialog should appear. If you disabled this for specific domains, you can use reset questions in the miscellaneous settings to undo this.

Thanks for your quick reply! I will have a look into the notification LED later on.

I've now reset all questions and after clicking on an inline image from Steam, Fairemail again, prompts me with the expected dialog, where I can select Open With.
But, after clicking on it I immediately get a blank, black display on my Huawei tablet and I'm thrown back to Fairemail again, nothing more. The link in questions is e.g. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1181600/Jetboard_Joust/?snr=1_620_4_1400_45&ser=1_0_
I would expect to see Android standard dialog where I can choose which app to use for this URI. My main browser is Firefox Android.

Hm, maybe this is the root of the issue especially with store.steampowered.com links, like above:
I've installed Steam's own app from Playstore and registered the URI store.steampowered.com to be open with this app. Did not yet reset the app settings to test if this causes those troubles.

I can open this link without any problems, so I am not sure why you can't. Maybe it is opened by an app which crashes, at least this is what your description indicates.

Please see this article about resetting the default open action:

Maybe it reveals which app is handling the link.

Yeah! Just reset the Steam app settings and now Fairemail asks me which app to use to open the link mentioned above: Firefox or Steam. But, when choosing Steam, the above described behavior can be watched. Using Firefox, however, all is well.

So for now, I will stop using steam from within Fairemail and continue with Firefox.
One annoyance I'm still facing is, when using the OK button instead of Open with, that Firefox opens, kind of inline.
So this is basically the behavior I've initially mentioned in my posting above.
Can I force Fairemail to fully use Firefox?

I think the Stream app crashes.

'OK'=use embed browser tab page (powered by the installed browser)

'Open with'=use app to open link (app could be the browser)

So, you'll want to use 'Open with' and not 'OK'.

That said, there is not much difference if it is a 'browser' link (not an app link) because in both cases the browser will open the link. It looks different, but it is the same app (Firefox in your case, assuming this is the only browser installed).

There are some difference though, please see here:

Yes, I know Fairemail opens Firefox internally, but this has a drawback, at least for me. I want both apps (Firefox and Fairemail) to be open, after clicking on a link in any email. Reason is that I often switch between those apps to lookup email content and still be able to browse the open webpage.
So some apps offer an open to use an external browser or open links internally. This is the option I was seeking in Fairemail's settings. Any chance to implement such kind of option if possible?

Please drop the thought of an option. You can select this on a case-by-case basis:

OK=open link in embedded tab page
Cancel=don't open link
Open with=open link externally

Sometimes these three buttons are ordered horizontal and sometimes vertically, and oddly enough sometimes you need to scroll the buttons, depending on the Android version/variant.

Version 1.1661 is available on GitHub now and in the Play store test program after Google's approval.

Changelog/download:
https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

It is possible to select what to import now.

Did you know that FairEmail will send the first email to an Indian email address? At least this is what is being said in a recent German 1 star Play store review (some voting down would be appreciated).

I'm not doubting your code, it's probably perfect but I bet it's some sort of android issue. I just did a survey of 20 emails, 4 of them went with the preferred sharing choice of auto sharing to Tasks, the other 16 just opened the shorter list of app options which didn't include Tasks (or quite a few other apps).
I will add some extra logging tomorrow, so we can check what is being shared exactly. Please use 'Report issue' in the navigation menu to contact me for a test version. Please reference this discussion and include your XDA username.

Version 1.1719 is available on GitHub now and in the Play store test program after Google's approval.

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

Like most previous recent releases this is a maintenance release. There is one new feature: tapping on the folder name in the message header when viewing a conversation/message will navigate to the folder. This feature is not available in the Play store version yet.

Tapping on the folder name in conversation threads has been changed into long pressing the folder name to prevent interference with expanding/collapsing messages.

This is mostly a maintenance release. Sophos Email Appliance links will be decoded now, so you can see which link you'll open, avoiding the proxy server. Some businesses use this. Note that this can be used to track you too.

It is time for a new, modern, open source, privacy friendly email client for Android.

I have just released a first alpha version for feedback on the design and features.

    Not for production use yet!

Most of the stuff basically works, but be prepared for crashes and error notifications.

Safe email is a working name, but it is for several reasons not a convenient name, so suggestions for a name are welcome.

I have just released alpha version 0.15

    Changelog/download:

With a bit of luck the next version can be a beta version.

I am putting a lot of effort into this project, so thanks are appreciated.

I have just released alpha version 0.10

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/open-source-email/releases

I have put many hours into developing and debugging this release, so thanks are appreciated.

This version is still not suitable for production, but all basic functions are present now. The goal is now to stabilize this version into a first beta release, so please let me hear what problems you have.

Edit: due to database changes you'll need to setup your accounts/identities again.

I have just released beta version 1.745

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

The changelog might seem uninteresting, but in fact displaying messages has been rewritten to introduce inline displaying of original messages. I spent about two days developing and testing this, so at least a "thanks" will be appreciated.

Some background: normally the web view cannot be used in a scrolling list (of messages in a conversation) and although there exist several workarounds for this, none were satisfactory. However, I had a completely novel idea (as far as I know) about how to approach this without the usual edge cases (hopefully) !

To do: investigate if using a dark background is feasible (setting the background dark is simple, but the challenge is to modify the message so that everything is still readable). I will consider to add an option to always display original messages.

Please report any problem you discover, so it can be fixed.
