Just attaching some examples here, the list of apps that can be shared is different from email to email. As attached in the first image, TASKS is the default but doesn't even appear as an option in the second image.
I'm using OpenTasks as well and I have it appearing for all my mails. I need to scroll through the list to see it, but it is always there.

I don't normally use the share option. Testing revealed such:
  • Most cases: 44 apps are offered, always including Tasks and Open Task
  • Messages with 2 or more attachments: 20 apps are offered; Tasks and Open Tasks are not there.
  • Some messages (long message text): ↻ appears the middle, after a few seconds a error message appears: "Failure from system data parcel size 1228460 bytes"; the message has approx. 330 kB as raw data.

Messages with multiple attachments will use the intent action ACTION_SEND_MULTIPLE instead of ACTION_SEND. It seems not all apps accept ACTION_SEND_MULTIPLE though.

I will truncate the text in the next version to something Android can handle.

Since the last few versions of FairEmail, the button under About that takes one straight to the releases page on GitHub has been removed.

Was there a particular reason for that? Updating is considerably more awkward now.

Perhaps the button has merely moved to another location in the app, but I have searched and not found it. Nor did I find a posting about it in this thread, but apologies if I missed one.

If you like, you can try version 1.1732b, which adds saved searches.

https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

This is not finished and extensive tested yet, but seems to work fine. I need to do other things first and will later continue with this. There should be something to set a name for saved searches and possible a color for the iconified navigation menu.

There will be no update notification for this version.

Edit:
  • Save: at the bottom of the search dialog
  • Delete: long press the saved search in the navigation menu

Maybe 'save' should be moved to the 'search more' button.

Suggestion:
The collapsing folders list is an excellent addition. But, once collapsed, there is no indication of the collapsed content. Maybe a label would be useful: Accounts, folders, etc.

Marcel, just a wild idea that came up after the new feature you added today again.

I was perfectly happy with FE about 1500 iterations ago, when it measured only 2.5MB. I mainly use the app for quickly checking my new mail, and anything serious like writing complex mails with lots of formatting and/or attachments, or searching, I do at my PC.

So now the idea is, what if you publish a stripped down version of FE, some kind of FE Light, that can be extended through modules of plugins by the user? There could be a plugin with search functions, one for formatting options, for encryption, theming, you name it.

I'm not sure, but I think your code is structured enough to rip it apart in separate modules. Benefit for the user can be that he only needs to download updates of functions he is actually using, and it simplifies the learning core for new users, who will not be overwhelmed with all the options like they often do now. You could even set a pricing schedule for the plugins, where some will be free and others come at a (lower) cost (than you ask now for the Pro version, which will of course remain to be available).

This would make maintenance and support more complicated.

The app is just 20 MB now, which is still pretty small!

I am getting about every 3 minutes (not an exaggeration) an email from someone complaining about Outlook not working anymore ("AUTHENTICATE failed"). Unfortunately, there are already plenty of bad Play store reviews for this too. Something seems to be wrong with the Microsoft IMAP server. The odd thing is that the same still works fine for Office 365 account.

There are lots and lots of Outlook users and if they all start to rate the app bad, it will be the end of this project.

Marcel: I have an Outlook account that is set on manual sync . I just tried and it syncs fine.

Stopping with improvements wouldn't be fair to the people appreciating my effort, so I will keep improving the GitHub version and reduce the Play store updates to once a month.

Since it happened too many times to me that I answered a message while a new message arrived making the answer less useful, the next version will show a bottom notification when a new message arrives in the same thread as you are composing a message for. Tapping on 'Show' will open the conversation, so you can quickly check the new message.

A documented reason why privacy friendly apps are pretty important:

The most common tracking library on Android is Google Play Services (in 87.3 per cent of apps)

None of my apps contain any tracking library!

It is time for a new, modern, open source, privacy friendly email client for Android.

I have just released a first alpha version for feedback on the design and features.

    Not for production use yet!

Most of the stuff basically works, but be prepared for crashes and error notifications.

Safe email is a working name, but it is for several reasons not a convenient name, so suggestions for a name are welcome.

I have just released alpha version 0.15

    Changelog/download:

With a bit of luck the next version can be a beta version.

I am putting a lot of effort into this project, so thanks are appreciated.

I have just released alpha version 0.10

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/open-source-email/releases

I have put many hours into developing and debugging this release, so thanks are appreciated.

This version is still not suitable for production, but all basic functions are present now. The goal is now to stabilize this version into a first beta release, so please let me hear what problems you have.

Edit: due to database changes you'll need to setup your accounts/identities again.

I have just released beta version 1.745

    Changelog/download:
    https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/releases

The changelog might seem uninteresting, but in fact displaying messages has been rewritten to introduce inline displaying of original messages. I spent about two days developing and testing this, so at least a "thanks" will be appreciated.

Some background: normally the web view cannot be used in a scrolling list (of messages in a conversation) and although there exist several workarounds for this, none were satisfactory. However, I had a completely novel idea (as far as I know) about how to approach this without the usual edge cases (hopefully) !

To do: investigate if using a dark background is feasible (setting the background dark is simple, but the challenge is to modify the message so that everything is still readable). I will consider to add an option to always display original messages.

Please report any problem you discover, so it can be fixed.
