Thinkfree is an Android document viewer for PDF and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) files.

The version that is freely available in the Market.. ehm Play Store.. is for Android 2.x versions only and is not compatible with Honeycumb and above.

However, the latest OTA package of the JRN84D Jelly Bean build for the GN contains a Thinkfree.apk which has a different build number compared to the version from the Play Store. I successfully installed (and used) it on Android 4.0.4. So, if somebody is looking for a good and free document viewer, you can grab the APK here:

Thinkfree Document Viewer has been in GAPPS package since ICS. (that's probably why they did not update the market one)

This actually pretty cool but why not just pay the .99 for Office Suite while its on sale
First off all there're a lot of users that don't have a credit card and can not buy apps at all. And then there might be those who don't need to edit files. So, as long as you don't want to specifically support the developer, why paying for a functionality that you don't need, if there's a free version that covers your needs.

Well, there're a lot of users that don't use an OTA version, but rather a cutom ROM (like me) which doesn't come with Thinkfree. Hence i thought it might be worth sharing.
If you use a custom rom, you *must* install gapps package to have the google apps, as custom roms are not allowed to have google apps included. And when you install gapps package, you will get Thinkfree Viewer.
Only users that have a stock rom may not got the app - if their manufacturer decided to remove it. (e.g. HTC does- however they add their own office suite/quickoffice, so no problem) However, even those users shall be able to download gapps package and extract the thinkfree.apk - But now they don't need to any longer, as you already did it - so for those users it is nice you did it and for those that use non-legal custom roms and/or are simply to lazy to install a new gapps package from recovery.

You want to argue? Fine:

If you use a custom rom, you *must* install gapps package to have the google apps, as custom roms are not allowed to have google apps included.
1.) Nobody *must* install any Gapps package when using a custom ROM (i know many users who just don't use Gapps at all).
2.) Even though it's not allowed, there exist also a lot of custom ROMs that include Gapps nethertheless (but not Thinkfree).

And when you install gapps package, you will get Thinkfree Viewer.
3.) Gapps is Gapps and Thinkfree is Thinkfree. The Gapps packages at goo.im/gapps (where most users get their Gapps packages from) do NOT include Thinkfree (since it is no Google App). So you don't necessarily get Thinkfree when you install a Gapps package. It's much more likely you do NOT get it.

Well let us not discuss about those things, as it is not needed. :D

If the free thinkfree office viewer is enough to rustle your Jimmies then so be it.

I merely Informed the masses that there is a 0.99 cent option that was able to be purchased from the market.

I could care less if you have or don't have a credit/debit card because there are even alternatives to that (since I have a credit card and an additional debit/credit card I'm able to buy things to support devs rather then using only free things)

I pointed out that there was an app that could do the document viewing plus it could do document editing for only a dollar whe the actual app itself costs 14.99 I figured I'd point out a steal of an app in an appropriate thread with like minded people. Since this thread was over a doc viewer I figured the people that would be inclined to look in this thread might like to know that there is a viewer and editor on sale (not sure if it is any more)

Your etiquette is all wrong. You should thank the nice people in the thread for pointing out helpful things rather then belittle and berate them or pick out arguments and point out flaws in what that post.

We need a new driver this one's dead
