I would assume Hangouts also has it built-in.

Download Open Mic+ for Google Now from the Play Store (just search open mic and it comes up). Set Open Mic up and you will be good to go!

Make sure that your online and offline language is set to English US as the hot word works only for this language selection.

Have you uninstall old google service before installing this if not then uninstall it 1st then reboot and try to install it normally if no success try to move app in system/app using root browser and give it a correct permission(rw_r_r) reboot I hope this will work

Try moving it to system folder first then set the right permission (rw-r-r) and then move it to the lib folder.
Make sure u have proper root access.
Check it from any root checker app from the store.

Thanks a bunch, the file moved successfully and the Google now stopped force closing however after rebooting both the google now and google launcher force close again

Been at this all day but unable to find a permanent fix to make Google now and google launcher working on my Xperia ARC with Super Jelly Bean 8.0 ROM work

It doesn't work for all maybe due to android version or the device itself.
Can't help on this as you have already placed the lib file then too u r getting a FC.
Try this maybe it will work.
Install the latest play store version.
Install the latest Gmscore apk.
All the links to the latest apks are in the OP of this thread.
Clear the data of Google play services and Google now.
