Patch - 6.2.8.9 (mantis / Firestick 4k) [Final]

Added recents Support to CLH (Double press Home to open shortcuts)

NOTE:
Needs NS6289 to work
Needs Patched boot image, either flash attached boot.img or just install magisk
Hi SweenWolf, Currently I have 6.2.8.1_r3 installed. So what is the correct sequence to flash 6.2.8.9 with your patch.
Is the following workflow correct?

1. flash your modified boot.img in fastboot on 6.2.8.1_r3 and there should be only one boot partition for mantis right?
2. reboot into twrp and flash 6.2.8.9
3. before reboot flash your patch for 6.2.8.9

Thank you for your time and help.

Hi SweenWolf, Currently I have 6.2.8.1_r3 installed. So what is the correct sequence to flash 6.2.8.9 with your patch.
watch the video to create a new TWRP flashable image.

Written steps:
  1. download latest bin file. (e.g. mantis.bin)
  2. download some archive tool (e.g. 7-zip)
  3. rename the bin extension to zip (e.g. mantis.zip)
  4. open "mantis.zip" using "7-zip" and delete all folders from zip file
  5. now open "Scripts.zip" and extract it (download from attachment)
  6. put the extracted folder "META-INF" into "mantis.zip"
  7. put patched boot.img into "mantis.zip"
now you can simply flash the "mantis.zip" files in TWRP
Is the following workflow correct?
NO.
1. flash your modified boot.img in fastboot on 6.2.8.1_r3 and there should be only one boot partition for mantis right?
Doing this WILL brick your stick. Never flash any boot or recovery image using Fastboot, use TWRP to do that.

Usually a boot.img is to be flashed along with the os image itself, but it can be flashed after os installation and not prior to it (and before any reboot)
if you flashed mantis.zip using twrp then flash boot.img right after that (you should not reboot before that)

IN THIS CASE WE ARE PUTTING THE PATCHED BOOT.IMG INSIDE THE OS IMAGE SO NO NEED TO FLASH IT MANUALLY.
2. reboot into twrp and flash 6.2.8.9
3. before reboot flash your patch for 6.2.8.9

Thank you for your time and help.

Just follow the instructions, create a modified OS image, flash the image using TWRP and reboot.

after that you can simply flash anything you like e.g. magisk or pathces.

We are flashing the patched boot.img so that we can modify the system partition without the device refusing to boot.
And also that the system does not execute efuse burner script even if its present in the system.

The above script.zip also deletes efuse burner files on the system

Thank you for the detailed answer. I will take a look at your tutorial. One more thing, Since I do not have a usb adapter to connect the mouse and can only install a boot.img with adb twrp command. Wondering if twrp install sdcard/boot.img the correct command to flash the boot partition. TWRP docs are unclear about flashing a boot with command line.

Followed your tutorial and successfully updated to 6.2.8.9(y)(y)

Hi guys, nobody answered me, so I ask again:

I have a rooted firestick 4K (mantis) I would ask can I simply install the wolf launcher without the launcher manager and then using
pm disable ...
to disable the stock amazon launcher?
if yes, is there a github repo (or similar) where I can get the .apk of the wolf launcher?
(or compile myself if the project is not active anymore)

Not to jinx myself but wolf launcher is still working for me. I'm on Fire OS 7.2.7.9

Not sure what the latest version is, but everytime it forces an update I think it will stop working, at which time I'mm buy a second nVidia shield.

You can install it without launcher manager but you will face a long boot time on later version of FireOS. (This issue occurs when you disable stock launcher, use Launcher Manager's Handler to fix this)

If you disable stock launcher then most of the search results will not be shown to you as that is handled by amazon launcher itself.

You cannot simply update the launcher and get your prime or netflix working because thats not the root cause of the issue, the issue is DRM. The TrustZone of your device needs to be updated in order for these app to function, simply put you need to ìnstall any rom >= 6.2.8.1 along with its TZ.

You can download WL from the Mega Link.

Why are you still on 6.2.7.7?
Why don't you just update to 6.2.8.9?

Any launcher set as default should remain default unless is installed or updated (or they specifically resets the defaults)
Just dont reset or disable your 3rd party launcher

I bought a 4K stick with 6.2.7.7 on board and I unlocked and rooted it.

Since then I disabled the updates to avoid any issue that could break root. As far as I read in the UNLOCK thread it should be safe to have a system up to 6.2.8.7, after that they patched the exploit.
Am I wrong?

This applies to locked sticks with stock rom only.
So I should re-enable the apk(s) used for manage updates and let them update my system?
Sorry to bother you, I have no experience on firestick system so I would not break something

By now I disabled:
Code:
com.amazon.device.software.ota.override
com.amazon.device.software.ota
com.amazon.tv.forcedotaupdater.v2

edit:
Can you explain me this better?

By now prime-video and netflix works fine, you mean that I cannot simply update the stock launcher leaving my system with 6.2.2.7 but I have to upgrade the whole system?

at which time I'mm buy a second nVidia shield.

You might try out the Walmart onn. Android TV 4K UHD box -- it only costs $19.88, and comes with the Google G10 reference remote. I'm able to install Button Mapper and FLauncher on it, mapping the Home key to FLauncher. It performs more smoothly than my Fire TV Stick 4K on various videos. The only problem I have with it currently is that the Vudu app (owned by Fandango now, no longer Walmart) hasn't been updated to support 4K UHD. I also prefer the Fire TV Stick 4K remote to the Google G10 remote, because the former has a dedicated play/pause button -- but you can always pair a different Bluetooth remote with the onn. box.

Thanks, just updated to 6.2.8.9 using your instructions. Are OTA updates auto blocked with your provided scripts.zip or do i need to flash your v2 patch aswell? nvm i just installed magisk and pm disabled

Got another update last night. Took an age to reboot but still working fine.

I’m still pondering buying another shield. I’m just reluctant to spend more cash when the cube does everything I want, I just really can’t stand the Home Screen.

For clarity, please note the actual firmware build number next time, not just say you got an update. Thanks!

MANTIS updated to build: (NS6290/4021)
- Build creation date: Wed Jun 22 2022
- Android Security Patch: 2022-01-01

Only thing notable is that it includes an OTA update for the Remote's software.

Hello all,

I just ordered a 2nd gen Fire TV Cube and had a few questions.

1. What was the last AFTV firmware version that worked with Launcher Manager & Debloat toolbox?
2. What does the FireTV Toolbox do?
3. Are the attachments in the first and second post of this thread the most current versions of the software?

Thanks,
pir8skin

The debloat tool still works on all FireTVs. What changed was that Amazon started protecting certain packages in 7242/3515, beginning with OTA update packages. Then in 7273/2625 Amazon protected the Amazon launcher. A protected package can't be disabled by a user without root. There was a user many pages back that figured out you could remove the update to launcher to unprotect it, and that may still work. 7242/2906 is the last fully unrestricted version on the Cube I know of. I think new Cubes are still shipping with 7229/1856.

This thread is sort of Wolf's official development page for most of his apps. Anything on the main page is the latest version you will find of that app for the most part.

FireTV toolbox is mostly for FireOS5, it's sort of an early version of Launcher Manager for switching the launcher. I'm not sure it has much to offer on FireOS7.

Am I correct in understanding that I need to use the Toolbox to adjust my Fire TV (Gen1) so it fully supports all features?
Wanted to install the toolbox on my mobile but I get an error message from Total Commander that the app was removed at Google's request (despite trying to install the downloaded apk).
You might be thinking of Fire toolbox that you install on a computer to unlock various features of a Fire HD tablet?

FireTV Toolbox on the OP installs directly on the FireTV device. It's sort of like a early version of Launcher Manager, from before Launcher Manager was created. It's unrelated to Fire Toolbox above.

EDIT: Sorry I didn't read the OP carefully, you are right the FireTV toolbox is installed on a second device and that device installs the settings on your FireTV

I found a version here, 0.1.9, but I saw another post talking about a version 1.7, but I didn't find it anywhere.

Anyway, when I get an error here in the widgets, they don't load and neither does the wallpaper, making me have to click on them.
Can anyone help me solve this, if possible.
    Thanks!
The final release of Wolf Launcher was 0.1.9

The lastest release of Launcher Manager is 1.1.7.

Widgets only work on FireOS7 (requires root on FireOS6 and below). I'm not sure about wallpapers. That should work if you navigate the launcher menu?

Hi, is it possible to update fire tv stick max (7.2.4.8 stock) to 7.2.5.5 ? (Not to the latest version 7.2.7.9)
Maybe with otg drive or some trick?
You would need root or some other exploit to accomplish that. The 4k max is still the only FireTV device without any rooting method.
    1
Sorry, I was assuming you were using a FireOS device. Wolf Launcher was a mod of ATV Launcher to make it work on FireOS. If updating your ROM doesn't work you could try the original ATV Launcher to see if widgets work any better with that.

There is also an Android mod of Wolf Launcher 0.1.9 that someone posted a long time ago on this thread. I can't vouch for its integrity, I've never used it. If you want a copy pm me.
With the ATV I also have the same error, so (I thought) I resorted to this mod from Wolf. The big advantage for me is the fact that I can hide the icon that is in the upper left corner and backup the settings.
But I'm going to change my rom and see that this is really the problem. I'll send you a PM to send me this mod, please.
    Thanks for all the help!

@SweenWolf Home Theater mode (audio from FireTV to Echos) might be a little niche, but it may be useful to others to add a shortcut under LM Display & Sound.

    Package: com.amazon.whasettings
    Class: com.amazon.whasettings.hometheater.HomeTheaterActivity

Hi, I’m new to fire sticks however as soon as I got my new Firestick something was not right. And that would be the Amazon launchers with loads of ads, as a results of this I looked into how I could change this and thus discovered launcher manager and wolf launcher. It been 5 days and things have worked like a charm however now my Amazon firestick has recently updated and launcher manager won’t enable wolf launcher no more. I’ve tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling it however still It didn’t work and also I have tried using TDUK Update Wiper to wipe away the update and have blocked updated using FIREOS Update Blocker however yet again it has not worked, can you please be kind enough to try and help resolve this issue, Thank you

This app can disable Stock Launcher of Any Android TV (except anything running on Fireos 5), it requires Network Debugging to function.
The way it works is it finds the stock launcher and disables it.
It does that in a loop until "android" itself is set as default launcher.
at this point if there are no Custom launchers are installed on the system then you will see only a black screen.
So a custom launcher should be installed prior to enabling the custom launcher.

some apps also broadcasts themselves as launcher and if they are installed as system app and are set as default launcher then it will also disable them.
some launcher integrates settings in them so disabling the launcher will disable settings also.
the apps who broadcasts themselves as Fallback home will not be disabled.

There were certain cases where user uninstalled launcher and got blank screen, to mitigate that issue LMU will set itself as the launcher and call the other launchers on its behalf. so if the launcher is deleted then pressing the home button will launch LMU, from where you can disable custom launcher support.

If it detects that after disabling everything it doesn't reach the "android" itself and is unable to find a launcher then it will rollback itself, enabling every single thing it disabled.

    Changes:
    1.0.8
Fixed Settings Shortcut for Amazon Hud.
    Fixed Disabling of "Android"

All other functionalities are similar to Launcher Manager from the First Post.

    This isn't a confidence-inspiring reply.

I don't actually care if you took an abandoned app and updated it making it your own, but the second half of your reply is just unnecessarily confrontational.

You could have just reassured me that your edits were safe, but you choose to be defensive instead.

I think I'll remove your launcher and look for something via the Play Store.

I've lost all confidence in Wolf Launcher.
Look I'm gonna tell you and everyone what I've done with the launcher till now,
I have changed the way it launches the app, on latest pro (any pro) it used to crash the apps.
I fixed the title bar. I then optimized it for FireTV (not any other OS, which caused it to misbehave on some device) which i later fixed. Then some people were having trouble installing both ATV and Wolf simultanously. so i had to change package name which made me to change the launcher name also (that might have been wrong on my side). then i optimized the app once again for FireOS (it caused some freeze issue). Then to fix Setting of Amazon HUD (older version of FireOS), I had to add a code to handle settings (it only works on Amazon and no other device). I changed some sections to give user large wall (that was temporary fix). I removed some http links, but they are used either for update check or to change Network State in the launcher.
Then i added "App Info" to the launcher, which i only added for non-system apps.
Later i removed the large section mod and unlocked the widget for Firestick 4k.
Then I added "Other Settings" which contained option to clear cache and Backup/ Restore function.
i also added a code which starts the services of Launcher Manager (thats also mainly for FireOS and thats because of Boot Delay). I also added a stroke for tiles.
thats all i have done to the apk. I have not done this mod to make any money, and i can assure you this app is safe to use. My only intention to mod this app was that this app was almost perfect and there was some bugs which i had to fix myself because the support of this launcher were down. And the only issue at that time was app crash for which i decided not to compile a launcher by myself. I am not forcing you to do anything, I am just clarifying myself, The apps which i have created are safe. and are to improve the user experience only.
i do not like to or want to rip someone off. I started this mod for FireOS only and no other OS.

    Test boot delay on this.
Enable custom launcher handler, select launcher from list, press home, select LM Custom launcher and click on always, reboot.

This will not work with protected packages
