Let me check.
It's working fine on the devices we tested (but we don't have S23 ultra to test).
Can you possibly screen record while changing the resolution?
Thank you.
I'm daily driving S23 Ultra since Feb 5, so for almost two weeks. I had an S22 Ultra before, which I always used on power saving mode with 96-24Hz adaptive refresh for months, using MaxHz app (3G calling trick after the One UI 5 update). However, Adaptive option on S23U reverts to capped 60 Hz after a short while.

My S23U is a fresh new install, no Smart Switch or whatsoever used. I now have to set my refresh rate High on the app and set it to 96Hz. This is causing me to lose on SoT and the adaptive screen technology. Dear developer, please take a look into S23U to see what's the issue that's causing its adaptive mode to 60Hz. I paid for your app 3 times on 3 different phones, and this is the first time I'm unable to use its essential feature.

There can be different reasons that can cause it.(1) If autorestart is enabled on you device or (2) adaptive power saving is enabled which auto switches PSM on or off. In either of this case, the trick needs to be redone unfortunately since oneUI5.
Thank you.

For S23Ultra, you can select 10-60. You can try the app to find out more.

Autorestart is disabled. Adaptive power saving is also disabled. And they both have been since the two week time I'm using my phone.

I'm certain that there is a bug on your app that is causing the S23U Adaptive mode to disable itself and the phone reverts to normal 60 Hz power saving mode behaviour. Only the High option on your app gets me over 60Hz on power saving mode, which kills the adaptive capability altogether.

Does it stay on Adative mode or it switches to Standard mode? What version of the app installed on your device?

It stays on Adaptive. But functions as 60Hz normal power saving mode behaviour. That's why I'm certain it's a bug.
Try to check if it happens with 120Hz. You could be using the device on very dark environment from time to time which disables 96Hz on certain brightness levels (96hz on some devices has higher brightness threshold, this is done by samsung to avoid visible flickers when refrsh rate switches which our eyes are more sensitive on darker environment). Increasing screen brightness a bit most of the times can make it work again

I always use my phone on the lowest brightness level that won't cause me a hard time seeing the screen (adaptive brightness is always disabled). I used my S22U 96-24 Hz adaptive for over 6 months, no issue. But as you said, lowering my brightness level causes the 96Hz adaptive to switch to 60 Hz. This behaviour was definitely NOT present on S22U. I always used it with lowest brightness levels, sometimes Extra Dim used when the slider is already at its lowest, and no issue whatsoever.

What I don't get it is that you phrase it like it was always the case, but it absolutely wasn't on my S22U using MaxHz app.

The brightness threshold depends on the calibration of the display. Unfortunately ii is not something that any app can modify.

Try increasing just by bit. It can possibly work within your acceptable brightness

96 Hz just won't work unless my brightness slider is more than 20-30%. 120Hz seems to work at even the lowest brightness levels. Thought when I track the refresh rate, it does seem to take a lot more time to return to 24Hz after taking my finger off the screen.

I appreciate you taking your time to explain this.

Great news!
Here's a new alternative extra steps to bypass 60Hz limit on PSM on OneUI5.* using GameTools/GameBooster.
First, open Game Booster settings and ensure
  • "Save power during touch protection" is turned on AND
  • "Shortcut bar" is tuned on OR "Floating shortcut" is set to Touch Protection

Here are the steps:
1. Select Adaptive Mode while on power saving mode
2. Open any game (preferably from game launcher)
3. Press the touch protection button

in the floating shortcut bar and wait for the screen to dim ("Drag lock icon to unlock" text will fade)
4. Touch the screen and unlock
That's it!

Thanks to @InfernalDread for sharing this trick.

Hi, am full version user of your app. So far it work just as intended. Although i find it indeed too jerky with adaptive 10-120Hz.

what i want to ask is, whats is the MW time recommendation for Quick Doze setting ?
It depends on personal preference but the longest MW interval and 0 (No maintenance) have the most battery saving but it has downside (more delay on notifications of some apps). Please read faq #17 for more info.

Inquiring minds want to know. 😜
hey tribfalfs i just found your app and love it so far, i just have one question what are your plans for android 14 because google has restricted the installation of apps that are based on android 6 or lower and your app is based on android 5?
For those who want to use the app in android 14 (applicable for new install), it can still be installed using ADB (e.g. adb install --bypass-low-target-sdk-block galaxy_max_hz.apk).
No other way. Need to retain the old target api to retain its functionality.
Can be harder for newbies but it is what it is. I understand google's purpose on this move.

Thanks for the clarification @tribalfs - what about updates to A14 on phones with your app already installed? Will we have to reinstall from ADB?
    No, existing installation will stay.

Hello @tribalfs I have noticed on my s23 ultra that after setting the max Hz to 96. The refresh rate doesnt go beyond 60Hz. It only goes when i increase the brightness quite a bit. The threshold is set to 0% fyi.

    Anyway to fix this?
Sorry the brightness threshold for 96hz is beyond control of the app.
The threshhold indicated in the app is for switching down to 10hz.

Hello everyone. The point of disabling auto-synchronization affects the synchronization of all mail accounts and applications, Google backup? Or does it work differently?
Great question, i am wondering the same also

If you are a "Notification Gangsta" don't disable auto-Sync. I don't think it affects the battery "that" much.

    About this app:

    Refresh Rate Mods
    • Change default refresh rates
      - Easily change the overall refresh rate settings of devices supporting multiple refresh rates.
      - Set supported mid refresh rates as the maximum refresh rate limit for battery savings
      - Set separate refresh rates for power saving mode and for low battery state [1]
      - Quick settings shortcut
      - Tasker plugin support

    • Refresh rate (motion smoothness) mode switcher(Normal, Adaptive or High)[2]
      - Set you device motion smoothness mode to static refresh rates (high mode) for better smoothness if so desired
      - Tasker plugin support

    • Per-app refresh rate settings:
-Set different refresh rate settings for every app either adaptive or static [1]

    • Keep selected refresh rate mode on power saving mode[1]
      - On devices with One4 or lower, GMH will automatically apply a workaround to bypass 60Hz limit on Power Saving Mode.
      - Need extra steps on OneUI5.*. Test it first. New method: See post #53

    Screen-off Mods:
    • Screen off/AOD refresh rate (Force to Lowest Hz)
      - Force the lowest refresh rate on screen-off or Always-On Display(AOD)
      - Tasker plugin support
      - Select custom refresh rate for AOD/screen-off [1]

      - Tasker plugin support

    • Auto SENSORS OFF (non-root workaround)
      - Device sensors will automatically turn off while screen is off until the device is unlocked to help minimize battery-draining motion-triggered wakelocks while device is not being used [premium]
      - Tasker plug-in support
      - Supports up to OneUI4.* only

    Others
    • Battery protection mod (Experimental)
      - Option to set maximum charge to 86%-95%(for OneUI4+) [1][2]

    • Quick resolution switcher
      - Easily switch to any supported resolutions using the included quick setting tile[2]
      - Tasker plugin support

    • Customizable refresh rate monitor
      -
Use statusbar or overlay which you can place anywhere on screen.
      - Tasker plugin support

    • Net speed statusbar indicator

    OneUI inspired UI.

[1] Enabled for premium users (with 2 days premium trial)
[2] These features require a one-time ADB procedure (this is not root)[/TD]

    Info:
This app targets older android sdk in order to control refresh rates without ADB setup or root. Just tap OK the dialog that says "This app was built for an older version of Android...." when opened for the first time. If OK button is not visible, just tap the blank space on the lowest portion of the dialog. If google play protect prompts during install that the app is built for older version of android and doesn't include the latest privacy protections, you can ignore it and proceed to the installation. For privacy related concern, please refer to FAQ No. 3.
