Well the "always on" option was working fine for a brief period last night, but it has been hit or miss today. I keep having to go back into the app to turn it back on - the setting does not seem to be sticking.
When does it shut them off? After the screen comes on?

I think I can recreate the issue. When I turn on the screen the lights are on, but once I use one of the buttons (menu or back) it goes back to the old behavior of timing out after 2 seconds. Turn off the display and the back on and the lights after back on (until I use them again).

Ha! Looks like I'm sol then. Kernel is overriding it :) let me play around with some files and see what I can do.

Thanks so much for this, was missing the option for having the buttons always stay ON. I mean, what's the point of them turning on AFTER you press them? They are supposed to light up so you know where they are. The stock behavior just seems stupid to me.

I can fully understand people wanting to have them OFF at all times, but light up for 2 sec after you press them? So counterintuitive!

Thanks again!

Edit: However, the "always on" option doesn't stick when I exit you app. As long as it runs in the background, it works, but the app is unfortunately visible in the multitask menu, and then "killed" from there, the button behavior reverts to stock :( Any way this can be fixed?

That's interesting... my app isn't doing anything in the background.. so killing it from recent app list shouldn't affect it.. I don't have a ge ROM installed (really don't want to either :p ) but I will take a look.

Thanks! If it is any clue, the "always" check box is always unchecked when the app is restarted. So where ever it gets the current state from, something seems to overwrite it.

Again, thanks for looking into it! I would gladely pay for a working solution!

Anyone can flash the zip in cwm to completely disable the hardware button lights. Worked for me.

On a Google edition ROM? That's cool. Never thought it would share the same preferences as cyanoGen mod.

Have you had a chance to look at this? I'll be happy to test anything out if needed :)
