[APP] Greenify - Save Battery Life

I discovered this gem of an app a couple months ago thanks to an article on Lifehacker. Lifehacker's app recommendations can be hit or miss, so I took this with a grain of salt. But after trying it for a couple months, I couldn't be happier with the results and it's become one of my absolute favorite apps. I've noticed a few of you mentioning it in various forums as well, so apparently word has gotten around! But to those of you who have yet to try Greenify, I would highly recommend it. Basically it "auto-hibernates apps". So, for instance, if you have the Facebook app, but don't necessarily care to have it running in the background eating valuable battery life, Greenify will hibernate that app for you. It's very simple to set up and it has definitely extended my battery life after adding around 7-8 apps to my hibernate list. I'm attaching the Lifehacker article and Google Play links below.

Sad that it can't hibernate system apps Like Google Maps for example

Didn't notice that. Depending on if you use maps or not you could always freeze it in Titanium Backup.

Or you could use TiBu to make it a system app then use Greenify.

basically, go into "manage apps" -> "running apps" and determine which apps are running that you really do NOT NEED to be running all the time. for me, it was facebook, scramble with friends, beat the streak, play music, and a few others. I then open the greenify app, and selected just those apps. then, greenify will hibernate them so that they are not running in the background. only downside is that I do not get notifications for those apps (which is fine by me). however, I can still access them just fine and they launch very quickly/smoothly as if they were not hibernating.

Not really. Just open the app, hit the home button, then go into greenify and hibernate it.

Sorry, I had searched Greenify and got to this Razer forum, I have a Nexus 7. "Home" sends me to my home page on it. I used app/mover to change Play Music to a user app (but now Music is gone and won't install from Play Store...) Don't use it much anyway, but be nice to figure out Greenifying system apps.

Not really. Just open the app, hit the home button, then go into greenify and hibernate it.

Wow this app is great by far the best battery saving app I ever tried, I couldnt believe how many times apps were waking my phone and the funny thing is, they Dont even have notifications... So they were just waking the phone because they felt like it! but now I can still use the app and they Dont do anything in the background now! :thumbup:

Just a suggestion, if you have Titanium Backup Pro then you can convert system apps to user apps. Then you can set said app to hibernate in Greenify.

Does it just run a service in the background that is constantly monitors active processes that have been "Greenified" and forces these processes to go into "Hibernate" mode when the screen is off, and prevents any partial wakes?

Before greenify I would unplug my phone at 930 pm and wake up at 5 am and the battery would be at 78%, with greenify doing the same method I only drop to 88%!

This may very well be placebo, but battery life has been awesome recently, right after installing Greenify. CM10.1, stock CM kernel... Just another data point...
