What's the problem with this? There are several different forks/branches around, these two are the most popular atm (check OP).
Inotia00 has some patches that official ReVanced doesn't offer. Revanced is in an early state, I think the whole project will get settled when we're out of the alpha/early phase.

Just thought I'd pitch in my two cents:

Despite being 3rd party and not being recommended and yada-yada-yada I decided to try the j-hc magisk module anyway. Works like a charm, and guess what? No extra app needed! If there's a magisk module of anything, I'd be happy to take advantage of it.

Anywho I really appreciate this guide mate. With all the different varieties and variants it can get confusing.

Update: Well, I may have eaten my own words. It seems that because an update (or was it?) the magisk module-patched YT app no longer works, and the entire app name is somehow replaced by something like "Since 2020, such and such features of Vanced is no longer working" (don't remember the exact wording, deleted the app).

Ended up using the official revanced manager and patched the app from there. So yeah, I guess the official way is the way to go.

Are you talking about Vanced or ReVanced.

If you really had the old Vanced root version (installed as module or by the old Vanced manager), then it had to be a pre-historic version of YT (from the time when Vanced ceased) and no wonder that it stopped working at some point

Are you talking about Vanced or ReVanced.

I'm talking about Revanced, but I think the message said vanced. Then again I'm not so sure as I already deleted it.

IIRC my app version was on 17.49.34. I just recently updated it to 17.49.37 for revanced manager compatibility.

Tbh the problem was probably not that common and had a very specific trigger. I'm sure if I reinstalled the magisk module or updated or downgraded the YT app it would work again. Didn't expect such a thing to happen in the first place, so was probably just triggered by something specific.

Yes, this is exactly what I've been saying myself. Have you seen the reddit threads? I've been quelling the skeptics/worriers there who claim that the magisk module is malware.

First of all, I decide how I am gonna call my thread and what is all about, not you or ur friend. I don't know why u are mad from the first time I opened this thread and both of you attacking me with the first chance. Do you lost your place to promote io and you are mad?
zgfg reply only to say how low level knowledge we have and only promoting revanced io.

ReVanced Extended is Open Source project and Official ReVanced Team support to change Sources in ReVanced Manager for that reason (not only for Extended but for other forks too). You can build it by ur own. And so far I haven't seen any warning by the developers about Extended, they just don't accept bugs/issue from Extended since it's a fork and they are not related with development of that fork.

They will probably say the same as they would for all the "ready" .apks.

The difference tho is that I am transparent. I never claimed ReVanced is my project and I support and provide all the infos, guides and official links to the users to build by themselves using the Official Method which I also used to provide these .apks. I am not asking or force anyone to use my .apks as you falsely said, in fact I recommend and provide support to users to build themselves the way they want with the patches they want. Otherwise I would just share the .apks here without spent time to write all these at OP and helping users with their questions for building.

I shared these to a forum related with "mods" not in my own website. I am very transparent how I build these .apks and which patches I used. I have no development skills and even if I wanted to include something shady to the app I couldn't. I am RC & Translator for years in XDA Community, you can see my history in my profile (compared to YOU which you have it closed) and I only posted those .apks to help people who had/has X trouble to build by themselves in their phones or they didn't wanted to mess with building, after I took the permission by Sernior Moderators (of this forum).

Also I prefer lazy users to get these apks from more "trusted" sources rather some shady websites such revanced io etc. which their only purpose is the money. I do not earn anything from this since xda is not even my forum/website.

By talking or asking questions always for revanced io here, on reddit or discord/telegram groups, is not good since negative advertising is also advertising and that's something ReVanced Team should also understand and separate shady websites from legit popular trusted forums such xda which even the devs of the team using. XDA as popular/forum/webiste have a lot of Moderators which control/monitor things and exist for many years before even vanced and revanced appear, so believe me if it was something shady, my apks would be removed instantly. I wouldn't even ask moderators for their approval if I was shady.

But hey, if you still don't trust me there is a whole section at OP which I wrote with 3 different methods to patch by yourself and that's the main purpose of thread and this is how it started. So you can patch by yourself and don't use my apks. If you have any trouble while patching I/we can help you if you post your question/issue here. My apks were, are and remain optional, nobody is forcing anyone to use them and you can ignore them if you want. No need to create drama.

Btw, keep in mind ReVanced is a tool patcher and what I make with this tool and to who I want to share it with, it's my business and no one else's, as long I don't pretend it's "official" and I don't have profit from it. My apks are neither official nor unofficial - it's just the apks I built and share it with the XDA community.

I'm not sure if this is currently happening in the official YouTube app because the background play feature doesn't work without buying a Premium supscription, and I have no intentions on going Premium.

Can anybody here post a screenshot of what their media controls look like when background play is enabled on the lockscreen of their smartphone when using any one of the several YouTube clients/apps out there?

So it happens after a certain version of Vanced and then it's still there in newest version of ReVanced Extended. Did you tried the Official ReVanced? I still think it's Google that changed it so you can't do much as I said.

No I haven't tried the official ReVanced but I think you are right that it was Google themselves that have forced this change. Thank you for posting a screenshot of your lockscreen for reference.

The lockscreen player you are getting is at least an improvement over what I am getting because of the thumbnail being restored in the background, but yeah even in your screenshot I notice no rewind and fast forward seek controls.

Not sure why Google did this because NewPipe and PocketCasts (which is the Podcast player I use), both have seek buttons as media controls that are present on the lockscreen.

You can "scrub" forwards and backwards.
Grab the marker on the time bar and go left (back) or right (forward).

I trust zgfg's judgment when it comes to Magisk modules and modifications.
Personal interactions might blind me slightly.

It is only an explanation of a users experience using the module.
Apparently happy with using the module from the io site. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Has anyone figured out where the io site comes from?
When I originally looked at the module, I noticed the modified version was smaller than it should be.

They also include stock YT in the module zip so, the matching stock version is installed during the module install.
The modified (patched) version is smaller than the stock version though..

If I remember correctly the mod file was missing arch.

You can fix the issue in your module using same technique, by mounting from a different path.

When I have some time I will look into it a bit.

found a bug, if you turn off the screen while youtube is playing on fullscreen the video brightness is stuck with auto-brightness hdr on.

don't know if its only revance extended or official revance has it too.

I believe he wants the old school with buttons 10sec forward/rewind.
But player also depends on Android version and on Google. xD I guess it's time for him to move on and adapt the "modern" youtube player. xD

I didn't said to not share his experience or his "knowledge" about that site which still remains sketchy (My main concern is for the .apk they provide in the site, not so much for the module from j-hc since it's open source). But been disrespectful and have that attitude with irony posts, from the day he(they) found that thread, is meh. I don't know from where this attitude came from.

As you can see I have thirdy party sources section which people can use by their own risk if they want, but allow me to have a warning note about these sources and don't blame me for something Official Team has already announced multiple times. The facts are facts and I won't close my eyes to these warnings and mislead the users. They need to know which site is official and which is not to avoid confusion as already exist. I provide all the infos, the end user decide what to do. Where am I wrong?
The user NeonHD reported an issue with that module and it's my fault?

Also the apk from that site have significant different size, doesn't pop up a warning from Play Store while u installing it like with official builds, they probably use ReVanced Extended patches to build but they don't mention it in their site, and generally I've seen reports from people which encounter shady situations like they found on search words without even search these like roblox etc. Read this.

• Added a warning and links to read about Third Party APK(s)/Magisk Modules. A special mention note for j-hc magisk module which seems "legit", however It's still not encouraged to use different .apks and magisk modules beyond the official way stated by the official team but it's your choice.

The thing about revanced-magisk-module, its not just somewhere to download modules and apks from. Its the most extensive builder for revanced and a wrapper fot the cli. The installation and mount scripts of the module is better. It actually uses a custom cli as well. And it's just open source bash scripts. There is nothing possibly non-legit about it.
It's very weird you even put revanced io next to it which distributes closed source apks. If it contained malware, we wouldnt even know about it.

No problem. The credit belongs here. You should give more thought before judging someone's code and saying "not sure if they know how modules work".
