hate the text reflow on pinch-to-zoom in the htc stock browser?
found the hidden setting (about:debug, menu - more - settings - enable gep zoom), but it doesn't persist across reboots / full browser restarts?
this hack is for you

changes:
  • setting persists, you don't have to always go into debug mode to re-enable it
  • browser defaults to no reflow
  • double-tap-to-zoom is unaffected by this

requirements:
  • htc sense based desire (froyo) rom
  • deodexed framework libs/system apps

how to install:
  • please make sure your device/setup meets the requirements above
  • check your framework build number (settings >> about phone >> software information >> build number)
  • download the archive (zip) that matches your build number
  • copy it to your sdcard and flash it in recovery mode (as always, it is advisable to do a nandroid backup prior flashing)

enjoy

thanks to chris2busy for
  • calling my attention to this issue
  • googling out the half-working workaround
  • making my job as easy as it possibly could be by providing useful feedback

thanks to pingpongboss for the video

Nice work!
Have been looking for this for a long time since I hate the text reflow in the browser that cause the position of the web page shift unexpectedly after zoom in.

Would like to know if it is possible to make a generic patch for all rom version?
Thanks!

i haven't looked if there are differences in the code of the browser across froyo builds yet, but even if there were, modifiying the patch in the second post shoudn't be a problem

i'm off to germany today, should be back on thursday - i'll look into it then

Whao! I was wondering why my Youtube video count went up suddenly.

Thanks for the embed snq :) I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate your mod (I don't have an Evo anymore so I can't try for myself unfortunately)

I`ll got FC on internet bowser ,even browser not started et all

I see in your signature that your are using OD , which is an AOSP rom , not with HTC SENSE...why would you try a htc sense hack on a rom that has no htc sense ,beats me..Its normal to get trouble.

If you manage to get a browser session up type in the adress bar
"about:debug" without the quotes and enter it.
then try going to settings and find in the new options menu Enable GEP zoom..
Tell us if unticking this makes any difference..

I strongly advise you read before you flash anything..

I don't get it, when I used OpenDesire which is without Sense i still got pinch-to-zoom text reflow
i assume it's because od is cyanogenmod based, and cm has this feature

as chris2busy pointed out this is for sense only

before flashing may I ask you about the differences between patch from the fist post and the second one?
the second one is for devs only who are interested in porting this

How can I use this patch please ?
flash the zip in recovery mode

i correctly flashed this file TWO times and it doesn't remember the setting between reboot, any idea?
i guess you're using an odexed rom

Does this work with the Evo, specifically Fresh 3.3
i wouldn't mix desire system apps and evo framework libs
it should be easy to port though

    I do love this patch!

could you give us a new one for Desire HD ROMs ?
or give us a brief instruction to modify it ?

    thank you
