You also need to update your SDK package and pull the newest aapt.exe from the platform-tools folder and place that in APK Manager along with the updated APK Tool.

The new apktool gets you decompiling but you need the aapt.exe to complete the package so you can re compile....
updated my sdk and copied the aapt.exe to the apk manager dir and still getting errors decompiling. so i now have the latest apktool (1.4.2) and latest aapt, any other ideas?

Ok, I just tried this again. I dl the file on my pc. Renamed to launcher2.apk. pushed it to my sd card. Opened root explorer. Copied file. Went to system/app. Enabled r/w. Hit paste. Overwrite. Reboot into recovery. Advanced/fix permissions. Reboot. Still nothing. Am I doing something wrong here? Btw running cm7 nightlies 174.

i've been using it, works fine for me, i do it like this:

copy and paste to system/app (as is)
rename Launcher2.apk to Launcher2.apk_bak
rename the new app to Launcher2.apk
set permissions to rw-r--r--
or:
Code:
x x -
x - -
x - -
reboot
good to go

What do you mean rename the new app? When I renamed the launcher2.apk file into launcher2.apk_bak i don't get another file.

the one you downloaded from the opp. i think it is launcher2-3screens.apk
once you rename the original to _bak, rename the 3 screens one to launcher2.apk, set permissions, reboot.

Ok I'm gonna conclude that there's something wrong with the 3 screen version or cyanogen doesn't like this apk. I cant install it for the life of me. I'm almost sure that I'm not doing something wrong.

Ok I wasn't doing it wrong. I tried this method with a different app and it worked beautifully. What's up with the apk?

umm I think the steps that were listed were really straight forward and detailed....if its not working for you I'd say you're doing something wrong, not that theres something wrong with the apk if others are using it fine. Try redownloading the apk and following the steps one at a time otherwise just maybe stick with the launcher you're using now.

yeah if it worked with other apps it could be a bad download, but if you dont have a file named Launcher2.apk in /system/app that might be another issue. what ROM are you on? if you are on CM9 they might have the launcher named something else, i dont know. also the app might not play nice with it for other reasons maybe. what happens when you copy it in there, set permissions and reboot? anything?

May be an obvious question, but are you trying to decompile the original version? If not, try that first.

. . NS4G . . ICS . .

thanks for the tip, i had actually pmed the op and he showed me how to install the ICS framework with apktool. i was up and running after that, i guess because of the app dependencies but i dont remember ever doing that on 2.2 or 2.3. but yeah, thanks.
