Sorry to urinate on the fireworks guys, but iris scanners use near-ir light, typically 810nm wavelength, whereas consumer ir remote control systems use a somewhat further ir led wavelength, usually around 940-950nm. So even if you get the led to transmit, your devices will likely not see the signal.
