Yes, but first problem is I don't have access to sdcard. File manager from ubuntu says "couldn't enter folder sdcard" and external_sd folder doesn't contain any files and that you will not find in any tutorial why

getting vnc authentication error for kali linux i have tried password change by using passwd and vncpasswd but still cant get in... anyone any advice for me?

I've just started to root out my One and tried out LinuxOnAndroid, which, after a few days of google-ing and trying is working pretty well.
I need linux on the mobile only to be able to see my Linux desktops on PCs and Clusters to check my simualtions. All the distros and desktops I've tried, which have no errors in package manager and/or supporting X2go by default are showing empty windows for the client - really regardless the distro or desktop environment. I've connected thru SSH to my linux PC at work and I've started X2go client from that machine and it appeares without any prob.....
Any clues about the reason? For me it should be some display driver or session problem, but everything else is fine (except Firefox, which is not getting internet... but thats stg. else & not a primary problem).
I have limited knowledge about Linux (I know some stuffs, but I'm not a developer). Thanks in advance!

As I see, this thread is a bit dead, but if it would help anyone,: the problem was with QT_GRAPHICSSYSTEM. I needed to set it to native with
export QT_GRAPHICSYSTEM=native.
You can write it to .profiles or .bash_profile (depending on the distro) and it will be done at every login.

Lol, that's an old post... It's a bit fuzzy ,but I recall I was having trouble running Linux on Android because it was looking for a file in the busybox directory that wasn't there. For some reason the file it looks for can be found in the /data/data/com.zpwebsites.linuxonandroid/files/busybox dir.
To get loa to work you have to copy the file over to the busybox dir.
The problem is, after a reboot the loa busybox file you copied earlier to the busybox directory gets deleted on boot.
So the solution is to write a script to copy the busy box file from loa dir to the busybox xbin or sbin dir on boot. Then loa works every time.
I forget the name on the file and I don't have the script I wrote hand. It's just a simple Linux script, google will help.

I 've had the same problem. Open the app settings => .img replaced by the edit of " /storage/emulated/0/ubuntu/ubuntu.img " change .
Hello to everybody, i cannot use this application beacause on all my phones it crashes.
In particular, i have a galaxy s6 with android 6.0.1 , and when i push on Start button, the app crashes...

But, sometimes, i had success (with galaxy s3) and i start the terminal, that doesn't give segnals of activity after the initial configuration. If i try to start vnc, the result is that the connection is not reachable... so...
I don't know how to do...

Blank desktop trouble
I really love this project but I stuck so long time with this trouble. I read all of the post in this thread, I see someone have same trouble with me, but there still no clear solution.

What is this all about?/Why put this on my device?
This projects aim is to bring a range of linux distros to your android device through a method known as 'chroot', see it has running a linux distro within a virtual machine on your phone (Although its not! its using native ARM ports and the Android kernel) . You can access this virtual machine and run it on your phone without causing any damage to your device, or having to overwrite anything. Why might you want this? well my apps are designed to make the install and set up process as easy as possible while still giving you some flexibility. Once you have the distro up and running then you can pretty much run and install any linux software you like (so long as there is a arm port or it is not architecturally dependent).
Wait this uses VNC why shouldn't I just VNC to a computer?
VNC is used to access the GUI as at the moment I have not yet implemented a native way of viewing the GUI. But the Linux distro itself is running within the phone and can be controlled via the terminal app so if your a seasoned Linux user you may never even want to use the GUI
What is Chroot?/How does this work?
"A chroot on Unix operating systems is an operation that changes the apparent root directory for the current running process and its children" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chroot
This method of running linux distros with android has been around for some time. I have worked on my scripts to make the process more user friendly and give you far more options from the word go.
The scripts start by mounting the linux image file within the android file system and then mounts the sdcard and if you have it internal memory within the linux file system.
Chroot is then used to change the root directory to that of the mounted linux and a bash shell is then opened to allow you to control linux this is kind of like 'booting' the OS.
The likes of VNC and SSH are then set up when linux is 'booted' to allow you to connect to the GUI if you require it.

Ok so you want to get one of the support linux distros on your device, great welcome to the team
But first you will need to find out if your device is compatible with the method before anything else, this method 'should' work with pretty much any device but some ROM's/kernels will not work as they do not have loop device support etc.
HERE is a list of working devices and ROM's/kernels but remember just because its not on the list simply means no one has told me its working, it could still work!

Good news about this, in the next update sshd will no longer be started by default.
A config editor will be added to the app that let you turn on/off ssh as well as set resolution.6
Yes I think your right, I will look at making my next support distro one of these amazingly light distros, get the most power we can our of our devices
