Why does the Vanced Manager ask for root privileges after the latest update even though I have it set to non-root in the settings? Makes me wonder what the app is doing now...
That's just not even right! Why would you say that without offering proof first off. It did not ask for root permission for me on my pixel 3xl that I have never run root vanced on. So clearly it's on your phone and your set up and nothing nefarious by the vanced team as you hint at with your statement. It's up to you whether or not you use this app if you feel as though there's something going on then don't use it. But don't come into the forum acting like all the sudden they're doing something nefarious.

You can always simply deny root privileges.

Its possible that it checks if root is available to test if its even an option to offer you the option of a root install. I am root and have root installed so testing is not worth my time. If you are not rooted, the message/request will not pop up.. If you are rooted, you can always hit "deny".

I have tried all the workarounds to get around the microG bug.
I am on Miui 12.0.7 (Non-root).

I uninstalled everything. Then installed Vanced Manager 2.5.0
Then installed the following,
* microG 0.2.16.204713
* Youtube-Vanced 15.43.32 (one version before the latest)
* Youtube-Music 4.07.51 (one version before the latest)

I successfully logged into my 2 Youtube accounts through Youtube-Vanced -> microG
I can easily switch between those 2 accounts & they are reflected in Youtube Music as well.

Then I updated Youtube-Vanced to its latest version of 16.02.35.
Now, Youtube-Vanced only shows the 1st account. When I try to switch accounts no accounts
are visible! (not even the 1st which is active) !

Also, when I try to update Youtube-Music to the latest from inside Vanced Manager, the install
dialog stays on infinitely without installing.

I am okay with Youtube Music being on previous version. But I would like to know how can I be on the latest version of Youtube-Vanced alongwith the 2 accounts.

Thanks!

Same here..the latest Vanced manager 2.5.0(weed) asks for root permission.
I'm using non root version tho..
They only way it can ask for root permission is if YOU selected to give it root permission the very first time you launched the app. That allowed magisk to add it to it's list of root apps that would then, after manager update, would ask again for root access.
The app hasn't changed. Your setup and the way you initially set up vanced manger is why it asks for root.

I have a suggestion for Vanced, if it's possible. I know it's an annoyance with the regular Youtube app, so maybe this can't be fixed in Vanced, but I would love to see it.

What happens is I think there's like a 4 or 5 notification limit for Youtube Vanced. What that means is while I am sleeping, if I get 5 or more notifications for channels I subscribe to, I will never see the first one I got. I have missed out on a lot of great new videos because I had no idea a new video was posted.

Is there any way to increase the number of notifications to, like say 10, or infinite? I am not sure why this arbitrary number of 4 or 5 was chosen by Youtube but being able to get around it would be great!

I'm at a bit of a loss for installing this. Since the manager doesn't want to install vanced for me I've tried to install youtube vanced over adb but I have to force it to downgrade (since this is why it doesn't want it to install in the manager) but I can't figure out how to do that in combination of doing the whole split APK install thing. I just don't have enough experience. Any suggestions?

Did you un-install both youtube and microg? And trying to use the vance manager?

Yeah. Nonroot. The issue is when I try to install Youtube Vanced (from the manager) it shoves me an INSTALL_FAILED_VERSION_DOWNGRADE error. I've tried to use SAI to manually install the apks as well but it gives the same error. I've seen other people around with the same issue very recently but no answers. From what it looks like for some reason it thinks youtube vanced is still installed when it really isn't. I don't know why this happened in the first place but my best guess is the uninstall button from the manager was bugged or something. I uninstalled it in the first place to try and fix the login bug that everyone's been getting, except for course, now I can't reinstall it.

With YouTube as a user (not system) app, I find it easiest and less prone to issues by simply replacing the base.apk manually - no magisk module.

I'm revising my comment to say for now the most reliable method, if not using Vanced Manager, is this magisk module.

Without explanation, my manual replacement of the YouTube base.apk disappeared after some time. Attempts to reinstall and replace failed, both by file manager and recovery file explorer. YouTube's data/app folder would disappear completely after reboot (leaving behind its data/data folder - and perhaps other reference files - when reinstalling YouTube the system would ask if I wanted to upgrade YouTube from version "null"). Only using @i5lee8bit magisk module worked. The module itself simply replaces the apk file and that's it, so I don't know why only the module works. But it does. Something involving the timing of replacing the apk immediately after the file system loads I'd guess.

The only comment I'd add to @i5lee8bit instructions are to do a full backup first. Modifying the installed data apk's can cause issues. When I first uninstalled the module after testing it, I had an sdcard read error after reboot - a full black screen non-bootable error message - which was luckily corrected on the next reboot. File system errors like this are usually solved by the AndroidOS, but there could be an edge case of data loss.

Thanks @i5lee8bit for your module.

Exactly the same issue here. Cannot find a way to reinstall Vanced because Vanced Manager says that I must install v15.43.32 ver. first, but on the other hand Android not allows the downgrade. Uninstalled everything but it seems that somewhere v16 history is still there...Any suggestions?

Yes, same here.

Since new update Vanced is stuck at loading loop, it keeps spining and spinning blue circle in app but doesn't load anything from youtube?

NON-ROOT Vanced and official YT act as two different apps, you can have them both installed in parallel and you can update the offiial YT, it will not affect the non-root Vanced

However, you must not update YT from Playstore if you have ROOT Vanced, because the newer official YT version will overwrite your (older version) root Vanced
In my configuration, non rooted YT Vanced with MicroG on rooted device, and separate official YT is working fine. But anyway after some days I get updates from official YT, which does nothing and remain as "waiting for update" in the Play Store. I understand that I can update now and should not influence the modified version. Vanced manager is updated as well the necessary packages. Do you have any hint?

Previously it was like that but I can't guarantee, since recently I don't have a not-rooted phone with the non-root YTV

Same here. I am using Note 20 non root. Youtube vanced wont load. Stock youtube works fine. If I uninstall microG, youtube vanced works all right - so I assume microG got some problem with access my google account. Btw in settings my google account is under microg section.

Vanced is a well-known modded version of the YouTube app with many features such as ad-blocking and background playback. Vanced also offers some extra features to enhance the user experience. The entire list is available below:

    Features:

    INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Since YouTube v14.41.52, Google has moved to split APKs format. The Android package installer doesn't support Split apks yet, so we are now using Vanced manager for installing all vanced apps. The steps to use the vanced manager are below:
Especially for MIUI, there's a separate guide that can be accessed using this link. For all other devices, please follow below:

    For Non-Root:
    1. Install Vanced Manager
    2. Open Vanced Manager and tap the blue arrow in the lower right corner.
    3. Begin installing Vanced microG. (Without which you won't be able to install Vanced (or Music Vanced) or use login)
    4. Then install Vanced (or Music Vanced), log in to your account and enjoy!
    For Root:
    1. Install Vanced Manager
    2. Open Vanced manager and tap on the "Magisk" icon to grant root permissions.
    3. Once you are in, begin installing Vanced (or Music Vanced).

    Important information:

    • We replaced our root installation with vanced manager, which directly mounts vanced on top of Youtube in the /data/app directory, making it easier and faster than before.
    • Vanced will not block ads while casting since when you use the casting feature, it doesn't send the video from your phone to the Chromecast/TV. Instead, your phone acts like a remote controller for the youtube app in your Chromecast/TV. That is why the advertisement is displayed.
    • Purchasing items in the non-root version of the app will not work as microG doesn't support it. Hence, it is preferable to use the original YouTube app or using the web version for any purchase.
    • If your videos are lagging or the application starts to crash while watching live videos, please enable VP9 codec from codec override present under vanced settings. Google forced the ExoPlayer v2, which is highly experimental and unstable on unsupported devices.
    • YouTube has dropped support for Android 5 (Lollipop) with v17.xx.xx. Hence, the minimum supported version is now Android 6 and above.

    Known bugs:

    • Swipe down gesture for refreshing home feed breaks randomly. It's an issue with litho that only Google can fix. There's nothing we can do to fix it. (Tap here to learn more)
    • As of v16.16.38, casting won't work due to an upstream microG bug. (Tap here to learn more)
    • On portrait/vertical videos, preferred quality options do not work.
    • Swipe controls triggers when swiping either upwards or downwards to scroll through description or in live chat when in landscape mode.
    • On new action bar layouts(server-sided feature), the new toggles won't work.
    • Info cards toggle is broken (Temp fix: Disable it through your Google account settings. This setting disables info cards everywhere.)
    • App crashes with java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError while playing some video outside of vanced.
    • Manual codec override is broken and very experimental.
    • Some users might face geographical ads on YouTube Shorts tab.
    • SponsorBlock segments at the end of videos in playlists causes playback on the next video to start where the previous one ended.

    BUG Reports:

Steps to do before reporting a bug:
    1. Do a search and see if it has already been reported
    2. Check that the bug is actually a Vanced bug and doesn't happen in the original YouTube.
Steps to do when reporting a bug:
    1. Make sure you are being enough descriptive of the problem.
    2. Take a logcat (Google search if you don't know how). Especially if the issue is a crash.
    3. Taking pictures of the problem doesn't hurt.
    4. If the report is vague (missing information), it will most likely just be ignored. If you are not going to show any effort in resolving the problem, why should I?
    Bug report template:
    1. Vanced exact version number (Do NOT say latest).
    2. Download link used to download Vanced.
    3. Installation method (whether user SAI or Vanced Manager)
    4. Device.
    5. ROM (optional may not help).
    6. Any applied Substratum/swift overlays.
    7. Logs if there are any crashes/force closes (upload to Pastebin or hastebin or katbin) and paste the link of it with your report. [Check here to know how to get logs]
    8. A brief description of the issue
    9. Any installed mods to the system.
    10. Test your issue on the stock youtube app
